In fact, this motherboard is a copy of our JGINYUE B450M, and we really can't afford to remove the VRM in order to deliberately reduce the cost of the motherboard, which would be very inconvenient for the user. At the price of USD 40 free shipping, it's hard to imagine what quality replacement materials Machinist would use for motherboard materials which invisible in the production process such as B450 chipsets and MOS tubes (since they're only can get second hand B450 chipset).
I can’t thank you enough for commenting! Yeah, selling the motherboard without VRM heatsink is just a terrible idea, as I mention in the video. It can handle a low powered CPU but nothing more. Also very interesting to hear about the chipset licence. I’ll pin your comment, keep making great motherboards!
@@myyoutubename152 Actually, what I mean is that with relatively fixed prices (under USD47 most of the time) and inflation, in order to maintain sales, they must be making cuts to the material budget of the motherboards which is invisible in the production process, it will increase the probability of damage to the motherboards.
Pretty good for the price. I think this would be good for people who want to tinker. Knowing how hot the VRM's are running i'd pick up some thermal pads and a heatsink as well.
Asrock B450M HDV is also often on sale at $40. I think it's more worth it as it can bought locally plus warranty can also be claimed without much hassle.
I bought one of these a few moths ago to troubleshoot my old MSI b350. It proved the Tomahawk was the problem. So far it has worked great with a 1700 and a 5500. XMP works with my 3000 memory on both CPUs. My biggest problem is that it only has one pwm besides the CPU.
I bought the same one to use with a Ryzen 5 3600 and an RX580 2048 to build as a flipping PC, sounds like I made a pretty good choice. We'll find out in a few weeks time. I paid AUD62.00 delivered to my door
I have a biostar b450mh which looks identical but with black color. I got it with a prebuilt i bought at the end of 2020 with the RTX 3060 ti (it was cheaper to buy prebuilt that build it myself because of the GPU shortage). my prebuilt came with ryzen 3600 and recently I upgraded to 5700x3d. it supports Rebar but no PCIe 4.0 which is a bummer. The original bios wasn't stable at DDR-3200 i had to clock down my RAM to 2933 MHZ for stability, but if you updated the bios it got more stable. I think this board (and other cheap AM4 b450) follows the AMD reference design, and the difference between different motherboard vendor is their suppliers and maybe the tuning of the firmware
I found an issue with RAM speeds on my MSi B450 Thawk Max PCB when I replaced the Zen part for a Zen3 chip. My OG RAM couldn't run XMP without crashing. I found the issue came down to the base speed of the RAM, the OG was 2133MHz, when I replaced it with 2407MHz RAM the issue went away and XMP has worked ever since. I even added 2 extra sticks of a different brand of 2407 with no issues, not a single crash since with mixed brand RAM.
On cheap boards like this with exposed VRM''s, it's always better to use top-down coolers, so you get additional airflow over the motherboard. There should be a big difference in temperatures compared to a tower style cooler. The CPU temps might suffer a bit, because obviously top-down coolers are generally worse, but the difference in vrm temps more than makes up for it in my opinion.
just got this board, was fine untill i tested in Doom Eternal, where the coilwhine was terrible. They accepted a refund luckily, and i'll get it returned. I'm going to give the board another shot, hope it works this time
Dude, unless I'm mistaken, THATS a FAKE 2Tb NVME! I bought several of those a year ago when they went on sale cheap, and had a few customers complaining of BSOD's and data loss, Come to find out they are either 120Gb or 256Gb drives flashed to read as 2 Tb and overwrite everytime they fill up... I'm Trying to find a way to at LEAST flash the correct firmware or whatever, so they can at least be used as proper drives... but that sticker is EXACTLY what's on mine...
I got a x99 pr9 from maschinist and it's working fine. The only downside is that it's dual channel memory, not good for a cpu with quad channel memory support. Considering that i got the board with an e5 2667v3 and 32gigs of ecc ram for 70€ it performs well. Bios is pretty complete aswell, which apparently is rare on Chinese mbs.
Yup, can’t complain about the bios! The Dual Channel thing is very annoying on X99 tho, it’s one of the features that actually give you an advantage so it’s a shame it’s missing. But I know why: they do not use a genuine X99 chipset. Still, for the price it’s pretty good :)

@Kevin-vh6nn No OC on xeons e5 26xx v3 CPus. But the v3 xeons (v4 xeons don't work) can run a bios mod to unlock the turbo boost from 2 Cores to all Cores. With turbo boost unlocked my 2667v3 clocks 3,6 GHz on all 8 Cores. Machinist has a good reputation. B450 is dirt cheap nowadays, i saw the Asus prime b450 mkii for 50 bucks on Amazon some months ago (right now 56). And you have better warranties etc. I would not look at the naked price, but rather the whole package. A520 got also cheap. I assume all cheap mobos are intended to run a 65W tdp cpu and not more. VRMs not perfect for higher end cpus.
