  • Phlebitis (Superficial Thrombophlebitis) is the clotting of blood within the veins which causes inflammation.
Prof Mark Whiteley of The Whiteley Clinic explains why antibiotics should not be prescribed as a treatment for Phlebitis and also how to properly diagnose the condition.

Thank you very much. I had a large blood clot under my knee in an artery, the size of a large grape. The doctor prescribed pills, I drank them, but the general condition was very bad, I could not step on my foot, and I had no strength at all, I even spoke with difficulty, I just lay there. It was so bad that I thought it was all over. Cellular nutrition helped me, I began to take it, and after the first intake, strength appeared, it is easier to speak. A week later, an ultrasound scan showed that the thrombus had resolved, although the doctor warned us that you should adjust for 3 months not earlier. I am sure that it was due to the cellular nutrition that the thrombus was so quickly resolved, it turns out that cellular nutrition thins the blood and improves the quality of the blood. A month later, blood tests were normal👌😁

I had acute superficial thrombosis for 7 months and still going. It started in March of 2018 in my right leg at first it took 2 hour before it started to hurt. then 1 hour 30 minutes, 1 hour, then 30 minutes to 10 minutes of staying. I work at a job that requires you to be on your feet. I been trying to handle the pain then and now with 800mg ibuprofen and compression socks every workday. In May of 2018 I when to the emergency room because I couldn't take the pain no more that's when I found out I had a blood clot in my leg. They told me the superficial thrombosis was at or near the junction of two veins. They gave me a compression sock told me to stay off the leg and keep it elevated and it should go away in 2 to 4 week also see your doctor and sent me home. I did all they said and it didn't work I when back 2 months later same thing. To be clear about my leg it in the back calf of the leg no heat no swelling, normal color pigment no veins showing no bumps. I don't know if I have varicose veins or if it's genetic I also don't know if I still got superficial thrombosis or if this pain will be with me for the rest of my life I given up going to the emergency room to check I have no insurance. I hope it goes away?

I would ask your doctor if he can prescribe Warfarin or any other blood thinners, wear a compression sock on the leg during the day Elevate leg with a pillow at night ask your doctor about what physical therapy moves you can do to help ease the pain in leg make sure you tell them what you have and how long you had it and that if they can't help then you'll seek Better help also 800mg ibuprofen can help ease pain or two 500mg Tylenol or another painkiller

Does a superficial veinous thrombosis show up on a blood test - D-Dimmer? I've had a clot (both types) and the superficial one with no symptoms except the feeling of a cramp (size of a 5-10-cent piece) and some heaviness, in three spots, the calf, and now behind the knee and back of the thigh. Should I be requesting a scan?

Thank you for the information! I had a superficial thrombophlebitis of the the right iliac vein in my groin. A lot of pain there. My doctor thought it was an hernia which caused me to have this problem go untreated for a year.
I finally went for an ultrasound and got the above mentioned diagnosis, went on Xarelto blood thinners and the clot has re-canalised.
I have these reactive veins that remain that get sore especially when having a bowel movement and exercising.
II have been put on Aspirin Ecotrin. Do you think these reactive veins will ever heal?

I was diagnosed with thrombophlebitis about 6 weeks ago. There's a hardish nodule and swollen varicose vein in my calf just under the knee. However, no redness or heat or sign of inflammation, just a dull ache and uncomfortable tingly feeling lower down in the calf and into the toes. It's neither better nor worse after 6 weeks. No treatment recommended but was told blood thinners and compression stockings may be needed if it doesn’t resolve. Should I be seen again? It doesn’t look much like the pictures shown here.

You can't message your leg, arm or foot if you have a clot. You'll cause it to come loose and go to your heart, lung or brain.
