I too have a Dynatron Nomad, still works fine on all original components, these were expensive sets back in the day, the main competitor was Roberts. AM broadcasting has been diminishing for years now, what is left is generally talk stations. I built the Spitfire AM transmitter some years ago, this has been a great investment, as it allows me to broadcast era correct programmes to my vintage radio collection, it is really spooky to hear Winston Churchill announcing "Britain is now at war with Germany" on my 1930's sets. I also regularly use my 405 line TV sets via my standards converter, the original transmitters were shut down in the early 80's, but I can still watch vintage programmes without any modification to my sets.
i also have, all original and unrecapped, didnt need it, far too much obsession with blanket recapping.. also have a lacquered veneered wood case version, more like a table valve radio, supposedly very uncommon,, these are very similar in appearance, at least in terms of the dial ,to the first hacker herald model rp10 , probably 'cause they were rivals, offshot from one and the same company originally 😉
I was around 10 yrs old ( around 1975 ish) & i was given 2 mini suitcase style radios that were in immaculate condition by some elderly neighbours, after a few month of tinkering with them i ripped out the guts & used 1 for a homemade light show & the other into a mini toolbox. I severely regret my actions now as a fairly mature 59yr old. The radios were valve & had 2 batteries in each, 1 was an eveready 90v & i think the other was a 3.5 volt !!. Ive seen the radios on certain web sites & really wish i had another 1.
too many people rip innards out of old radio to convert them to bluetooth speakers or for other audio input, no need to even if they dont want to use the existing audio section, theres always some way of non destructively doing it , even if a bit cumbersome in some cases
i havent heard/seen anywhere about ALL radio broadcasting stopping( FM as well, i take it? what bout DAB???!!!!) not everyone IS on the internet or wants to or can be,, it can cost a lot of money, radio is basically 'free' ,and add on to the licence fee.. this needs to be stopped!
This was from a speech by the BBC's DG Tim Davie a few weeks ago. It's not clear to me whether DAB would be included in the switch-off - I doubt they would get away with that having spent so much effort to get people to switch to it. That said, as I understand it early DAB radios will at some point be obsolete anyway. videoweek.com/2022/12/07/a-switch-off-of-broadcast-will-and-should-happen-says-bbcs-tim-davie/
@@neilsradios content ONLY via internet should NOT be a thing or be allowed! internet should never be necessary for even basic things such as general tv, and radio, especially news, internet is far more expensive, compared to the licence fee, i may not be able to keep up cost in the forseeable future, for one thing, ..

I think the Nomad would have had a strap handle originally
Yes, I’ve never seen another one with that chunky metal handle.
