The Anatomy of Story was on my TBR Short list, now I'm rethinking everything. My favourite writing book so far is Beginnings, Middles & Ends by Nancy Kress, have you read it?
ooo the spot on/surprise/disappointment is such an interesting one! I might have to try that! Also omg, wow I'm so glad that the average rating was so high for our collab!
Love your videos and your book choices. You said you wanted some more historical nonfiction reads I have some great reads for you . The books are gripping. I could not put them down ! the first is Isaac’s Storm. It’s about the Galveston Texas Hurricane in the early 1900 decade. I found it compelling and topical for this time of year . It reads like a great novel. I have reread it more than once. The other truly great read is Into Thin Air. It’s about the Everest climbing disaster. It too reads like a fast paced novel. Both books are seen through the eyes of characters in them. They feel very personal and are very atmospheric at the same time . They occur at different times and very different places. Both are easily 5 stars stories and must read authors for me. I believe you won’t be disappointed !
Perhaps the fact that some of the favorite author candidates have written books that you aren't excited to read is a data point as well? Or maybe there is room for a higher tier of favorite author where any book from them is an automatic read.
I love your stats in this video!! 💜💖💛

One idea for a non-fiction book is Stephen King's "On Writing". I quite enjoyed it both from the writing advice and the memoire perspective.
