I am uncertain as to why exactly, but the Katie/ Wynnewood tornado seems to be the most recognizable beast of all time. I have watched many videos of it, and even in compilations you can pick out this beautiful beast.
Of every tornado I’ve either chased in person or watched someone else’s footage for whatever reason this tornado has always stood out to me. The footage dick McGowan got of it really shows how violent it is. It was an absolute monster. Sadly it killed one man but in a way that’s kind of lucky because this tornado had the power to kill tons of people had it been in a more populated area.
In this video you can see how unpredictable the movement of a tornado can be. First, it crosses the road, then it turns back and turns to move alongside the road before crossing it again. Such an amazing video of a beautiful tornado.
Doesn't need to be Oklahoma, there are states with more tornadoes per year. Although if you're interested in the monsters, Oklahoma is your best bet. Lived there for over a decade. Chased 1 that spawned right near our house and I was also in the May 3rd 1999 tornado, which was an absolute monster and a crazy experience to have as a child.
@@lxvemikeyy If i were younger and had my current mindset, I would have set out to become a chaser myself. The thrill and fear is stupidly intense. It's definitely one of the more interesting paths you could walk. Good luck!

Yea he got video of the inflow jet destroying a house and killing someone. Obviously you don’t see the person get killed but the tornado is so strong the inflow jet completely tore a roof off and destroyed a house.
The thing I take away from all these so-called storm chasers is just how narcissistic self-centered they are. Like each driver thinks that, that tornado is only theirs to chase and take advantage of. And everyone else needs to submit and stand down to them. The utter pushyness in their driving. Like each driver only has the right to proceed beyond everyone else. There needs to be some demolition derby and smashing people off the road.

As beautiful as they are they are dangerous, but this is a Wizard of Oz tornado for me 😃
May 9, 2016 was also the date of the most recent solar transit of Mercury.
@@RideAcrossTheRiver what’s the significance of that? Genuinely curious.

This tornado is probably my favorite of them all, regardless of who filmed it. Just a wicked storm.

Oklahoma is the absolute mecca of all severe modes of weather chasing. Don't let anyone fool you.

Had to mute. Wind chatter in mic was horrendous. Nothing to do with roar of tornado in distance. 🙉🎧
Wind was a big problem on that day. Sorry about that.
What camera did you use to film this?
Panasonic G7.
@@Jari.Ylioja Thanks, that helps a lot!
Moore and Joplin all over again
Except it didn't hit a major city nor was it an EF5...so no.

Try a wind sock for your mic
Mic is Old Rode Stereo videomic. I deadcat on but wind is still there.
