I love the old Diesel engines, I had a 320cdi T-model and now a 2009 530d e60 3l Diesel inline 6, this engines are the best. If you take care of it, it will do 1 million miles easy. Thats why we love them here in Germany, but we dont drive like you, no speedlimit. When I travel, my diesel goes 120mph+ and onece in a while full speed 155mph. They are very capable, more then people think. I love that tank like engine feeling. Have a good one, greetings from Germany Bremen :)
My dad's W203 200 CDI is a real workhorse! We recently took a trip from Charleroi, Belgium to Marseille, France, covering 1,000 kilometers. After taking a ferry to Algeria, we still had 250 kilometers to go from the port to our final destination. Even with the car fully loaded (like a camel!), plus three passengers, the fuel gauge showed we had 300 kilometers of range left. Those Mercedes-Benz diesel engines are truly impressive reliable, efficient, and capable of handling anything you throw at them!
Hello, I‘m from Germany. I own a W211 E 420 CDI facelift (V8 Diesel OM 629 with 2 turbo chargers). I managed it to achieve a fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100 kms at a speed of 120 km/h. Tank capacity is 80 litres. That‘s very terrific for a V8.
My 40y/o 84 300SD IS A STEADY 27-28mpg. All highway 65-80mph. I run a mix of power service and 2stroke oil in the fuel. Valves adjusted every 12-15k. 236k on the clock. This would be my next Benz 👊👊
Absolutely the best car and diesel Mercedes put out. I sold mine a couple years ago with about 270 K. I have had the worst regret since that day, but people will come along at the gas station and make you crazy offers. You just can’t turn down sometimes just don’t do what I did always turn them down always always.
Very nice car they are rare in the usa from what i see but here in France the majority of cars are diesel 4 cylinders so you can do 800 miles with a small tank
It can’t he’s bluffing the official is 500 miles per tank and you can be sure the real mileage is lower than that an E220 might do 800 depending on the size of the tank.
Hold on a second you seem to be using UK gallons not US gallons even at that it works out at around 45.9 mpg and with US gallons around 38.5 mpg but I’m still suspicious because the official range is 24 mpg US and 29 mpg UK around 500 miles per tank and the real mpg is always lower than the official mpg. You didn’t top it up on the way by any chance?
Just purchased the same car and enjoy the Hi-way travel in it. Has your car had any modes done to it? I have been considering deleting the EGR valve, and maybe a mpg tune for the computer. Very nice put together video! Thank you for posting it.
They are great highway cars. Yes i had the ecu reprogramed to eliminate the egr and tuned the engine. It does sound loider at idle however pulls like you cant imagine. There is also no top speed limiter. It was well worth it and mileage is as you saw. The throttle input is alot better this way tap and go just like a tesla. Lol
@@richardczyz8833 Its an ecu tune the ECU has to come out a reprogrammed. Im looking for the number and info for the guy who did it for me. He purchased an e220 cdi from me a couple of years ago. I will have to get back to you.
Wow just got the same car two weeks ago can’t wait to go on a road trip after I have changed all fluids and filters my wife is not a fan of diesels but in two weeks she loves the car are first trip will be to Florida from Michigan what kind of oil are you using for motor and transmission
@@Ld28 Thats probably good oil but I think you could get slightly even better fuel economy if you'd use 5w30. Also interesting that in the US diesel filler nozzle is green and not black. Good video btw
If I ever have to fuel a car in the US I'd have remember the diesel pump is green and petrol/gas is black, it's the opposite here in the UK, could get very expensive for the absent minded visitor!
For a 1/4 of the price of a Korean bomb you can buy a proven w211 diesel which is safer better built and more economical than a 4 cyl petrol. And you won’t lose 80% in depreciation over 5 years. I own 2 of these a e500 and a 350…will be adding a diesel to the collection maybe a w212 this time. Best cars I’ve ever owned.
Hi bro, i have a e220 6 speed manual but my fuel consumption at 90km/h is 6.2l/100km. I have 225/55/16 Dunlop sport 9000 tire, i think my fuel consumption is high due to my tire. What is the size of your tire and the brand ?
I drove my 08 ML 320 cdi from Raliegh NC to NY then the reserve light popped up... it usually gives me 620 miles per tank . I will drive diesels till it forbidden.
I hate to bring bad news to this because I still think it’s a great video and I too own a 05 CDI but the tank capacity is 21.1gal and if you achieved 47mph with even a gallon to spare you would have been able to go 947miles. You averaged 40mpg with a gallon to spare. Your computer is pretty off. I am also very interested who you had tune your car I am looking to do the EGR delete and tune as well. Great video either way!
@@michaelwalsh9145 No really I can easily get 900 US miles per tank. I was able to get a peak of 49.2 US MPG driving across america in my stock CDI, and then you can delete the EGR, and then there's hydrogen boosting and stuff, even a 6 speed manual, you can even swap in the later 7 speed auto but it can't handle as much torque. Congrats on the mileage, i think the OM 648 cdi was the best overall diesel car engine they produced.

I too have a lead foot and i constantly push its limits
speed limit is not installed in the car. it's just written in law
Can you buy me the same car and ship it to Zimbabwe, Africa? Will send money and find me the good one with very low mileage
