  • What going on guys so let's just get straight into it!
1.Replace coax cable outside and in (if needed)
2.Replace ethernet cable to cat 8 cable -patch for better quality and that nice 2000mhz speed (conditions may vary as cat 8 cables are shorter but stronger ) say you want a long cable then go with cat 6 or cat 7 cables
    3.factory reset the modem
make sure the modem is properly cooled and in an environment where it gets enough airflow towards it. (This is because when devices get hot it may affect performance or lower the lifespan pretty understandable
4.make sure to tighten the coax cable with pliers/wrench or anything tight but don't overdo it just slight tight it to the right.
(rule of thumb the right should be tighter and the left is loose)
5.make sure splitters, cables, and other things that could cause interference is not getting in the way or are replaced with higher-tech end splitters or cables.(this May vary depending on how much signal you are receiving if you are receiving too much thats bad but if you receive too little is also bad) it’s all about balance
    6. old splitters must be washed and thrown away as it can interrupt your transmission due to old model or outdated equipment. (The chances of this are high if your 18 or older and realize damn my house is old).
7.If needed call and request a new powerline going from your house to the light pole/power pole that your isp sends the data from. The reason for this is because within 16+ years that coax cable most likely is a bit damaged by birds or pigeons or squirrels etc. Even rain itself or snow etc
8.acess the interface of your modem and open the event logs then click on "cable connection" and find out the issue!
(This Can vary and it could be a lot of things but and trust me this is going to sound weird but most likely you wanna hope something pops up because if there is an issue then boom you can attempt to fix it)!
9.check the dBmV power levels and match it to the standard issued levels
    UPSTREAM/US SHOULD BE +38-+48 DBMV
    DOWNSTREAM/US SHOULD BE -7 - +7 DBMV
(As someone commented the upstream Can sometimes be around 53ish and the down stream can maybe be 9ish for this modem though the best quality is -7 to +7 and +38 - -48

FOR COAX CABLES, IN MY OPINION, DONT BUY THEM JUST GET YOUR ISP TO INSTALL THEM! If needed Ofcourse if you know what your doing then your fine
A COUPLE SIDE NOTES- THE CM2000 NIGHTHAWK MODEM HAS TO BE UNPLUGGED OR RESET IF YOUR DISCONNECTING THE ETHERNET CABLE AND PLUGGING IT IN A DIFFERENT THING WHETHER IT BE A ROUTER/A CONSOLE OR A LAPTOP at least for 20 seconds

Not sure where you are getting your info from, but here are recommended ranges for a good modem signal:
Downstream Power (-15dbmV to +15dbmV) - measure of the signal level received by the cable modem
Most modems are rated from -15dB to +15dB, however it's best to have it between +8dB and -8dB. Anything less or more than that and you may have quality issues. You can remove splitters on the line if you need to raise and clean up your signal level a bit. You can also use a tap (directional coupler) to get a cleaner signal to the cable modem instead of a splitter.
Upstream Power / Modulation(37dbmV to 55dbmV) - the strength of signal transmitted by the cable modem
Generally a lower this number is better. Above 53dB will most likely cause problems, over 57dB and you probably won't be able to connect. Ideally between 42 and 50dB. Lower than 40 may start introducing some packet loss (especially if you have much noise on the line). If you hit 58 the modem will likely drop the connection and resync.
Signal/Noise Ratio (SNR , >30dB) - measure of how clear the signal is
SNR is best over 30, (the higher the better, might work well with as low as 25 at times). Anything less than 25 will cause dropped connections, packet loss, slow transfers, etc. This is true for both the "Downstream SNR" and the "Upstream SNR", which may be different values. Typically, cable modems show the Downstream SNR, the Upsteram SNR can only be calculated at the remote end of the coax (usually at the node). Just remember that higher SNR means cleaner signal. A value well over 40 may mean you have too much power.

Now i agree with everything you said however I do have to respectfully point out the dBmV levels on the netgear site actually recommended -7 to + 7 and even if you search this up on Google you actually with get “For all modems DOCSIS 3.0 / 3.1: -7 dBmV to +7 dBmV are "Recommended" values.” I will provide evidence/sources in response

Scalptrash is correct i have been working in cable for over 10 years i can agree 100% im sure differant companys may train slgihty differant based on there networks, the company i work for also trains our techs to tune modems to -7 to +7 before leaving a home and thats to inssure the modem has plently of flexibilty to opperate correctly in there working ranges because downstream levels fluctuate a few db up down through out the day normaly due to temputure changes so if u had a modem sitting at +7 it may be +9 a few hours later then back down to +7 thats not going to hurt anything as they will work fine like he said between -15 to +15 but you would not want to have modem sitting at either end of those extreams in other words your 7.4 db was perfectly fine however if u can try to get a modem as close to 0db as possible for downstreams and between 35 to 50db for the upstream, but depending what tap your drop is on and far down the line your are its not alwase possible, in fact customers at dead end taps or end of the line have something called reverse tilt and will offten have to high singals in the lower freqencys where docsis channels are normaly located and very little signal in the higher frequencys where tv channels reside, those drops usly require a passive device called a inline equalizer to level the signals out and then maybe a amplifyer to boost tv signals if they have tv service

How the hell you get the internet to connect automatically just by plugging in the new modem? Mine doesn't connect automatically and troubleshooting don't do shit.

Hello Anthony, Thanks for the video.
According to critical reviews on amazon and reddit, around 10% people's CM2000 is dead then all 5 lights are rapidly flashing. I think this is from a power surge issue, but I need your advice on it. Getting mine tomorrow...

Most cable modems are recommended to be plug directly to the wall outlet. Otherwise you might randomly experience packet loss.
