Great video! Considering how its nearly impossible to sleep in LSL Coach, filming all those late night stations makes sense

Thanks for the video. I have not seen a lot of youtube coverage of this route. It was nice to see.

Nice to compare populations and elevations. I live near Albany/Rensselaer. Born in Boston and travelling there next week. Thanks.

Years ago, the Twentieth Century Limited ran the same route as the Lake Shore Limited but made only two stops. Maybe that is why it only took 14 hours to go between NYC and Chicago back then as opposed to 19 hours today. And of course the 20th Century Limited had its own special express track which has since then been ripped out.

The 20th Century was 16hrs. it ran non-stop from Syracuse to Toledo

The LSL used to leave CUS a half hour after the Capitol Limited. But, because Long Distance trains coming from the West tend to be late arriving into CUS they would miss the connections in Chicago for eastbound travel. So Amtrak moved it to 930

There's a reason why some of the staff I met on the route called it the "*Late* Shore Limited".

What kind of ticket/fare was that?

Was that Polar express train shown on the dashboard an excursion train?

Did you have to get off of the train when it arrived in Albany-Rensselaer? I've heard the train "splits". We are traveling to Boston in July.

Yes it splits. But you don’t have to move. People ticketed to New York City will already be in the correct cars that go to New York City. The people ticketed to Boston will be in those other cars

You don't have to get off the train, but it's a long stop typically, so a good time to stretch your legs a bit.

Eastbound; Once the Train arrives in ALB > > > the Train splits and the Boston group departs almost instantly!!!! The NYP group has to wait until an Electric Locomotive can be attached, then it departs!!! So Boston-bound STAY ON THE TRAIN :) !!
