It sounds like your sweater pattern is written in an older design form. When I first started knitting many, many years ago, all sweater patterns were knit flat and in pieces and that was how the shoulder shaping was created. Short rows weren't common back then. I had never even heard of them until fairly recently. Good for you for figuring out how to incorporate them into your sweater.

@pauletteweiss3479 it's definitely an "old school" pattern. I imagine it would also take up too much space in the magazine format to explain in short rows.
