A Classic Bungalow Transformed Into A Three-Story Home

- After living in a classic bungalow for 10 years, these homeowners called on designer Olivia Botrie of Dart Studio to help them turn their property into a modern two-storey retreat. The spacious home now features a foyer with floor-to-ceiling storage and custom seating, an open-concept kitchen and both a living and family room. Olivia thoughtfully laid out the main floor by breaking up zones with wall murals, furniture-like cabinetry and standout lighting.

What?! An Olivia Botrie project without a banquette?! Kidding! I love this designer’s body of work. She is thoughtful, talented and oh so cute and engaging. Another beautiful result that wows and has personality.

Beautiful home, in spite of the open floor plan. (not my thing) Can I say Olivia is not only talented, but hysterical! LOL I was screaming out loud, as she was yelling "they're fit, they're fit! Miss Olivia is telling us, "she knows her clients, we don't" !LOL. Nice job Olivia.

Beautifully curated and original. Hooooooray for closed shelving. I’m so over the flood of styling videos for open shelving full of nick nacks and junk. Her design is so practical and soothing.
I understand what you mean. The secret is to not keep them junky. Mine are beautiful and full of white/gray marble design dishes, white bowls and glass pitchers. It stays neat and I love it so much. I will never go back to placing my everyday dishes in a closed cabinet.

The project itself is lovely. I was very attracted to the facade of the home and I feel that the charm of it was lost in the remake. Essentially, this is a completely new home unrelated to the historical charmer and the owners were emotionally committed to the address rather than the style.

Well done! This is not my particular style, but I love how practical the finished product is- no unnecessary bedroom sitting area, twin beds in the spare bedroom, etc.- this designer really listened to her clients! Great job!

I absolutely love Olivia's projects! Not only is the home beautiful, but so is her personality 🧡 Great sense of humor! In France water closets are the norm... After 10+ years in Canada my hubby and I are still struggling with the idea of not having one 😆 And closed storage around the tv, how genius is that?! Currently looking at the MESS that is my tv shelving unit (#kids), and thinking I need to steal this idea asap... I'm kinda jealous that I didn't think of it myself.
It’s probably a matter of style and taste, but all of those different textures in the kitchen would drive me nuts. The entry is beautiful and a great use of space.

I love Olivia’s work and this house is no exception. I really loved the different materials used in the kitchen. Really think that dining room would have looked great with banquet seating!

She also talks like a normal person. She doesn’t have the annoying valley girl speak affectation used by so many “designers” male and female. I like that she explains the rationale behind the design decisions.

The house remodeling turned out really well. But now to me at least, an open concept kitchen and dining and living room, feel like a restaurant. I am, personally, done with open concepts. it is so difficult to keep the kitchen clean at all times. if you have an army of servants then its okay, otherwise... a nightmare.
Even if have an army of servants, it is too annoying to listen to all the kitchen cleaning or cooking noises when you want to watch TV or talk to someone in the living room. I never liked open concepts.
And the cooking smell goes everywhere!

It’s pretty, but it looks like a new build. With the exception of the original bathroom, all the character was removed.

In the beginning i felt bothered and i felt her too hyper then i felt myself enjoying like never before her presentation and couldn't close my eyes as much as i loved what she did . Really Chapeau for you Mme .you are doing your job from a deep heart and wirh a big love .the fact while designing it you were considering it for yourself and creating a fonctionel and luxurious space and you dont miss any details this is what we call it a complete and perfect job .

The house overall is very pleasant and well planned but I felt that you took away the charm of the facade when you raised the house. I would have liked to see it worked in.

Olivia seems like she could either be a very fun or nutty person to work for.
Love this entire project! One question though, everything in the house is obviously new. Did they just toss everything they had before? What about furniture from their families, what did they do with that stuff? I appreciate the esthetic of an interior that is the result of a design unadulterated by previous possessions, but not everyone can do that, or wants to.

I love the entrance hall. If you want to 'separate the kitchen from the other areas', put up a wall. Open plan is so STUPID. @5:25, love the tiles but not the black hardware that is going to date this design. @7:26, the wallpaper is lovely. I guess the clients got what they wanted, but there is too much white and I would want a fully enclosed kitchen as I don't consider cooking to be a spectator sport.

Too many beautiful old homes being torn down and historic neighborhoods lost to these modern monstrosities. Why not move instead of tear it down? What a shame. I can’t watch.
My favorite is the classic bungalow, arts and crafts style. I love these little old homes with all the character built in. It is a shame to remove all that and build a McMansion, could have built the big house on an empty lot and left the original to someone who appreciates it
Beautiful. One gripe though. What is it with North American designers - mill work? carpenters and cabinet makers do not call it this. They are building cabinets so please stop using this term. Just call it cabinetry. The only time a cabinet maker/carpenter will ‘mill’ something is when they use a lathe to turn a piece of wood. But I suppose ‘mill work’ fits in with the vernacular and sounds more sophisticated
