In this video we are going to focus on Junior Walker & The All-Stars members who have passed away. Junior Walker & The All Stars are an American R&B and soul outfit, & one of the Motown signature acts in the 1960's. Originally "The Rhythm Rockers," they became "The All Stars", & in 1961 they were recommended to Harvey Fuqua who signed them to his label Harvey. When Fuqua's labels were taken over by Motown's Berry Gordy, Jr. Walker & The All Stars became members of the Motown Records, recording for their Soul label in 1964. While 1965 saw the release of their signature hit "Shotgun," they remained active on the charts through to 1972, disbanding in 1979.

What year and what venue did you here him perform? I was his bassist and guitarist for a long time during the 80's and early 90's! I was playing with him for his very last performance at the Apollo before his cancer came back! Great memories! Stay blessed my friends🙏🎶

I love Jr. Walker music. Everyone else at Motown was polished and charmed, Jr. Walker was naturally trained and rough and ready who didn't need the charm schooling, or Cholly Atkins dance routine, the funk brothers backing. Jr. Walker was down home soulful type of cat. I always compare him to James Brown dubbing him the James Brown of Motown. He's my second favorite Motown artist next to Marvin Gaye.

I agree with all that you say save for the reference to James Brown. Godfather of Soul my arse.

@@paulweir5031 Well that's how I see it comparing him to James Brown because Motown was the sound of young America. Jr. Walker was different from the other artists. That's why Berry Gordy never had him to perform at the Copacabana.

I loved Jr Walker, too , but his stage presence was country and too uncouth for what Mr. Berry Gordy was trying to do with Motown Records...

IMO Jr Walker would've been a much bigger star at Stax records because he was pure soul... His sound and style was made for Stax...

My father didn't care for Mr Jr Walker & the Alstars , because his soulful tenor strayed too far away from tenors like James Moody , Eric Dolphey, John Coltrane and Coleman Hawkins. He said that Mr Jr Walker was a clown and some sort of monkey who could play the horn while riding bycicles. How wrong my daddy was...

  • @djuntouchablesbestkepsecre7720

Listen nobody cares because #1 most of that generation has passed and the newer generation most certainly don't know who they were.also they really didn't leave any impact on society.in other words what legacy did they leave as far as making a difference in this cruel evil world we live in.its like more people know who Marvin gaye is just from what's going on and the message it stood for and what it means and still means and the impact it still has today.the same with Stevie wonder.look how huge his legacy is right now and he's still alive he'd a legend.need I say more .

It’s ok for musicians to go and play, make people happy, maybe sell a few records, have a nice life. They don’t have to change the world.
What lasting legacy are YOU leaving the world other than a purile, uninformed comment on UA-cam?
