Wherever Rammstein performs in the world, fans can sing along with the German lyrics. Even in France. The band is known for its sensational live performances. The song singer, Till Lindemann, is a trained pyrotechnician and uses his knowledge a lot during the shows. What you might think is blood on his arm is a protective gel against the flames. Fun fact: The keyboardist runs on a treadmill and covers about 16 miles during a concert.

@@millennialmeetsmusic From what I've heard, he's also very cautious/carefull with how he sets the fireworks up in terms of safety precautions. Say about germans and their regulations what you like, but in this field the regulations are important and needed. Till is a professional at work.

The "blood" on his arms is not protective gel, it's simply instant coffee with water. Flake (the keyboard player) mentions it in a book he has written a few years ago.

It was 1997 when "Du Hast" was released, I was 4 years old and it blew my mind as a kid when I saw the video on MTV. I'll never forget that day and I will always remember when my Mom kept re-recording the video on VHS, so she can show my Dad once he came home from work. It blew his mind as well because we became huge fans ever since that day and Rammstein never disappointed us since. Now, fast forward 25 years later and I finally went to my first Rammstein concert here in NJ at MetLife Stadium. As in my Dad's honor, especially since it has been 10 years since he has have been gone, I made sure to not miss this show at all. I took my 64 year old rockstar Mom along with me because she's a metalhead herself and we couldn't miss this opportunity. Plus, Mom and I just couldn't stop headbanging to every song Rammstein played and we were in section 226, which was an excellent experience and I uploaded some videos myself on UA-cam.
By the way, to all of you on here, Rammstein is one of my all time favorite bands and definitely the greatest band you will ever since live, which is why I recommend you all to one day go to their concert.

And what makes it even funnier I’ve heard Rammstein for the first time when I was WAY in my 10th (in 2005-2007) and my Russian rock/metal phase that ended only in 2016 when I’ve heard Sabaton and HammerFall for the first time and start slowly transitioning away from typical Russian rock/Metal stuff that I’ve listened in 2005-early 2016)) So technically speaking, Rammstein was my second European metal band (after Nightwish) that I’ve heard that time and that helped me to transition to the Swedish and European metal scene easily later))

Fireworks are an integral part of many live songs of Rammstein. 😁 So if you'll watch more of them, there is a lot fire waiting for you.
Lyrics of "Du hast": The first three words are "Du hast mich" (you have me) which at that moment doesn't make any sense in German. But it sounds (intentionally) the same as "Du hasst mich" (you hate me). Later in the song, the first three words are extended to a full sentence: "Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt." (You asked me and I did not answer.) And then, to show what he was asked, the chorus is a wedding vow: "Willst Du bis der Tod euch scheidet treu ihr sein für alle Tage?" (Do you want to be faithful to her for all days until death do us part?) This is answered first by a kind of female voice "Ja" (yes) and afterwards by Till's harsh voice "Nein!" (No!). These - plus a slightly obscene word play on the wedding vow, that I will not explain here - are the whole lyrics (repeated a few times).
If you want to see more of their (incredible) live performances I would suggest (in this sequence)
Rammlied (live from Madison Square Garden)
Engel (live from Madison Square Garden)
Sonne (live at Rock im Park 2017)
Links 2 3 4 (live from Madison Square Garden)
Ich will (live from Hurricane Festival 2016)
Ich tu dir weh (live from Madison Square Garden) (don't take the lyrics too serious)
Mein Teil (live at Hurricane Festival 2013)
    Amazing official videos
Sonne (Sun) heavy, screwed up fairy-tale
Links 2 3 4 (left) partly heavy march
Ich will (I want) heavy, simple, way to celebrity
Spring! (Jump!) (fan-made animated version with english subtitles) slow, partly heavy, very dark sarcasm!
Radio (Radio) catchy song (with serious background)
Keine Lust (not in the mood) heavy, funny, slidely sad
Mein Herz brennt (My heart burns) scary, nightmarish, very special
Amerika (America) catchy, not a love song
Newest official videos from their last album "Zeit" in sequence of the tracks on the album:
Zeit (Time) slow, dark, melancholic, emotional
Zick Zack (Snip Snap) catchy song, sarcastic, funny
Angst (Fear) very Rammstein, scary, credits at the end are helpful to understand the message
Dicke Titten (Big Boobs) heavy (most of the time), catchy, funny, credits are funny too (my view)
Adieu (Goodbye) dark, sometimes heavy, emotional
Last but not least the great (but not nice) video "Deutschland" which has a lot of references to (mostly unpleasent) parts of German history. Video, lyrics, and sound are great (my view) and work very well together.
For many of Rammstein's videos there are English subtitles available ... and sometimes needed to understand what's going on. To find a lot of them, you may search on UA-cam for: "educated marine rammstein" + songname
For live videos of Rammstein songs, www.youtube.com/@Bucksttabu/playlists is a good source.
In case of Rammstein, precise translations of the lyrics is hard work (and sometimes not possible in subtitles), because they are playing many times with double meanings of words or slightly modify common German expressions and symbolic language pictures to invert or change their meanings. (That is even used in the very simple lyrics of "Du hast".)
I wish you to enjoy your Rammstein journey.

Mate, thank you for your write-up lol, I was going to try and write something along similar lines but you have done the hard work for me, and probably better than my attempts would be!
      I would like to add though, a couple of my own suggestions for the 'what to watch next' if I may;
I would suggest having more from European concerts rather than mainly from the (admittedly awesome) MSG concert. My suggestions would include
      1. Buck Dich (Live), from the 'LIFAD' tour, so I think the shows between 2012 and ?. On the list you suggest this should go between Engel and Sonne
      2. Fruhling in Paris Live at Arene de Nimes, 2017
and I would put Links and Ich Will (live versions) on the backburner for the time being
      Official Music Videos:
I would replace Sonne and Amerika, just for the time being, to add in
      1. Ohne Dich MV
      2. Auslander MV
And I would suggest starting it all with the next Rammstein masterpiece you watch being the incredible Official Music Video for the song *'Deutschland'*.
It is amazing, basically 2000 years of German history (or the region known today as Germany), and, this being Rammstein they do not shy away from the darker, disturbing aspects of that history either. The song is done wonderfully, and the actual video is truly a masterpiece, the attention to detail, the layers and layers of meaning, it is phenomenal.
You will need translation though and I recommend watching the video on Educated Marine's channel as they have a good translation of the lyrics into English.
Also, you MUST watch the whole video, from the first second to the last, DO NOT skip the outro!
BTW there is a video on a channel called "three arrows" iirc, that explains some of the aspects of the song Deutschland from a native german point of view, which is great because to say this song is deep, and with multiple layers of meaning is a massive understatement that really doesn't do it justice! I recommend you watch it after seeing Deutschland, even just for yourself.

      @arnonyhm4055 Рік тому +1

@@theinvisibleneonrainbowzeb2567 The video "Deutschland" is great, but it's rather heavy stuff (contentwise) and it is worth to busy oneself with it for a while, so I wouldn't put in in the beginning. The analysis and infos from "three arrows" is definitely worth to be seen afterwards, to get more insights to the historical events referenced in the "Deutschland" video.
And "Bück dich" ... 🤨... well, I saw it first on the bluray of the Paris concert and was very disappointed ... soundwise and because for me it is much more obscene than funny. I wouldn't suggest it to someone in the beginning of a Rammstein journey, because it is - even for Rammstein - untypically provocative.
I wouldn't replace "Sonne" and "Amerika", but adding "Ohne Dich" and "Ausländer" is a good idea. A few days ago I've detected "Mein Land" (useful with English lyrics) which I will add to my list of suggested official videos. It is one of those videos that look and sound funny even so it's not.

@@arnonyhm4055 hi, yes I think I was very tired when I wrote my comment, such that I got it in my head for no rational reason that the number of songs on the list had to stay the same 😅 I don't even know why!!
As for Buck Dich, well I first saw that live in 2001, and in some of the other shows I've been at including 2012, so I saw the older version with a young Richard on the keyboard (like the Live Berlin version), and the later version with Schneider "taking the lead" so to speak!! I was actually debating which version, I think it is just because it has been a favourite of mine for a long time and of course it's place in the history of Rammstein is noteworthy, with what happened when they played in the US etc, alongside the vicarious pleasure of seeing someone else experiencing a piece of music for the first time 🤘🏼
It's funny you mention "mein land" though as I very nearly added it to my comment as a sort of wildcard suggestion just because the whole vibe, especially the first half, is just so much fun! I don't think it's what people expect from Rammstein but it was done really well and the change to the second part of the song too. And again, it has a backstory
I think the main "problem" with suggesting other Rammstein tracks to people to check out is that there are so many excellent examples and material to choose from, and then often multiple versions of the song too, live, and from different tours, album version, music video, more acoustic live version, piano, alternative version such as with 'roter sand'/'liebe leise', etc etc, and this is great news for us fans but it can be hard to know what to suggest next!

They're spectacular. Du Hast means you have. The first line of the song is basically, you've asked me and I've said nothing. It's a play on wedding vows where his partner says yes but he says no. Du Hast, as I say means you have, du hasst means you hate so phonetically it could be interpreted as you hate me etc. It's a homophone so needs context for understanding. "Du hast mich" is some kind of wordplay. First "Du hast mich" means "You got me", but the same pronunciation is "Du haßt mich", which means "You hate me".
So the crowd (french audience shouting the German words at the beginning) and the lead singer played around with these different meanings.

What you see in the video here is exactly what they did on stage (including the fireworks) , only it was much hotter, and much more amazing. And yeah there was a fair amount of smoke in the hallways of the arena after the concert.
If you ever get the chance to see them live, jump on it, you won't regret it and you will remember the experience forever.

They come from a long line of European industrial performance / rock music - Einstürzende Neubauten, Archaos, Mutoid Waste Company, Test Dept, Faust, World Domination Enterprises and even further back to the Futurists Art of Noises and Shostakovich. There is a rich heritage in European Industrial Music - and Rammstein are currently the most accomplished and certainly the most successful commercially.

Rammstein's most recent US Tour was all stadium shows because of their, shall we say, overwhelming use of pyrotechnics. But as others have said, this is "light" use of pyro for this band. After an incident involving pyro in the 90's, some.if not all of the band members became certified pyrotechnicians so they have sole control over the fire. It also eliminated the middle man saying, "that would be cool, but are you sure?". Looking forward to more Rammstein from your channel!

A short summary about the catch of the song. First there is a dual meaning in the phrase "Du hast" - "You have", "Du hasst " " You hate". Anolther part of the myrics "Willst Du bis der Tod uns scheidet... NEIN!" "Will you untill death does us apart..... NO!" are parts of the wedding oath in german. The girlfriend of one of the bandmembers confronted him with either leave the band and marry her, or stay in the band and she will leave him. This song was made in the aftermath.

  • @Kein_Talent
    @Kein_Talent 11 місяців тому

The meaning is changing. In German 'du hast' = you have got. But: 'du hasst mich' = you hate me. Last: 'du hast mich gefragt' = you have asked me. Great play on words in this song.

The story behind the fireworks is rather sad: as the band‘s name refers to an aeroplane accident at Ramstein Air Base in 1988 where the aircraft part crashed burning into the crowd that killed 70 people. That is why fire plays a central role in their performance.

It's difficult to translate. Du hast means You did (do something, followed by a verb). I can also mean You have (something, followed by a noun). But in German it's a play on "Du hasst" which is spelled slightly differently, but sounds the same and means You hate (someone, something). The lyrics the audience was singing were the bridge: Du hast mich gefragt, du hast mich gefragt, du hast mich gefragt, und ich hab nichts gesagt. (You asked me, you asked me, you asked me, and I didn't reply.)

    • @karlknapp2798

"Du hast" translates to "you have", and "du hast mich gefragt" is "you have asked me". And there is the german term "du hasst" which translates to "you hate". A german only hears "du hast mich" would think the song is about hate. The meaning gets clear when the rest of the sentence is coming in. "Du - du hast - du hast mich - du hast mich gefragt". The words "hast" and "hasst" are pronounced absolutely the same.

To put this pyro into perspective, I saw Metallica a few years ago in an NFL football stadium. We sat all the way at the top, basically sitting on top of the stadium, itself. The stage was all the way down on the opposite side of the field. It was difficult to make out individual people without the giant screens showing what the cameras were seeing. When they used pyro, which was nothing compared to what you saw in this video, I could feel the rush of heat on my face. Again, I was sitting in the nosebleeds of an NFL STADIUM and could feel the heat from pyro being used on the field over 70 yards away...
These guys have pryo that puts Metallica's to shame shooting DIRECTLY ABOVE THEIR HEADS! Absolutely insane.

I was at Rammstein in Gelsenkirchen in 2019. I sat further back because I didn't want to buy the fire zone ticket and believe me... you even noticed the heat down to the smallest corner. Problem is namely. Pyrotechnics cannot be set up in Germany and other EU countries like it is in America.
