Not hating here, but can someone please explain what's so great about this genre? While I can tell there's talent here, the song honestly made me want to turn it off half way. It doesn't really invoke any emotion in me. Maybe I'm dead inside.
I'm not sure that's the kind of thing that can really be explained. Maybe you are dead inside, but probably you just have a different set of feelings that a different set of sounds brings out for you. Some like it in the pot, nine days old, you know?
Aaron Chamberlain That's cool, everyone reacts to things differently. It's not that you're dead inside, this genre of music is an acquired taste, I'm the only one out of all my friends that like it. I can't speak for everyone but I like Math Rock because it's different, I feel that mainstream music has become repetitive and homogenized, I also love that the majority of Math Rock is instrumental so I have to use my imagination to set a picture that I feel best suits the sound. This song in particular gives me a sense of nostalgia, it reminds me of my childhood in the 90's which puts me in a personal state of tranquility and happiness, actually a lot of Math Rock reminds me of my childhood in the 90's. But that's just me.
I think the technicality of it is pretty cool and takes a lot of effort. I guess i can appreciate especially bc im a musician myself, lol. Its also really vibey and cool to bump to but also just have on in the bg (particularly instrumental math rock like this band.) I really like these guys but i also saw Polyphia, Chon, TTNG, and Tricot a few weeks ago (other similar popular groups) and maybe one of those will suit your tastes. Btw im dead inside too lol, but music makes me feel a bit alive
i actually totally disagree, this might have the most defined melody out of any song of theirs i've heard. this was the most immediate appreciation for a tune of theirs i've had yet.
