- The King of Fighters '94: Rebout is a remake of The King of Fighters '94 features high-definition sprites in 3D backgrounds, a newer design layout, online gaming, and an new animated intro. The illustrations for this game were also made by Hiroaki. Most of the gaming mechanics and story remain the same as the original. Several characters in the King of Fighters series (as well as strikers in The King of Fighters 2000) also make anachronistic appearances in the game's new backgrounds.

I will never understand why ppl complained about this game back in the day. Better graphics, arranged ost, a great intro, tweaked gameplay... it is the definitive KOF 94. I really hope that SNK re release it next year fot the 30th anniversary.

@@alexanderodintsov8549 True, they aren't even remakes. Esaka is some Christmas stage and China is the city WTF? And it had characters from future games and it just feels off place, why did they add them?

Don't see why people complained about this version. Looks like a good remix to me.
I remember what people were saying about this game coming out. People took issue with how ugly the old 94-95 spirtes were in the 3d backgrounds and how they didn't age so well. Plus KOF '94 isn't really a remake fans wanted to see during a time when we were in the dark ages of fighting games. And I think this was around the time when SNK Playmore stopped doing annual KOF games.
It's a shame really. I was one of those people who hated this game when it came out. Looking back at it now this is a nice fun nugget of a game that aged better over time. I'm glad people nowadays are at least appreciating this game now, but there was a lot of backlash against Rebout when it came out during that time period.
It's a decent remake. They actually had some of the designers who worked on the original returned for this. The intro song is awful though.

I could say that 94 rebout is more like the definitive way to experience KOF 94 but at the same time. This game is basically just 94 but with just some improve tweaks, Making custom team and having both rugal and weirdly kyo's father as the 2nd secret character. I get it they want to have that game stay as it's original source but both 98 and 2002 has a ton of different versions with different stuff In it so why not have 94 got the same treatment?
They really need to release this game on ps4 and steam.

Why does the SNK Wiki have a release of this game under Playstation Network? As far as I know, this never got ported from PS2. I would love to have it alongside the '97, '98 and 2002 remakes on my PS5.
The game being on PSN is actually part of the PS2 Classics where they mostly rereleased or emulated old PS1/PS2 games on the PS3, with different emulation compatibility, some are decent emulation, some are bad emulation
My only gripe with this game is why didn't they just make 3D versions of the stages that were in the original? They did it with 98', these new ones make no sense like for the AOF team, what the hell is that stage even supposed to be?

man this game was such a bad idea, they should've gone with the remake route: make new sprites in low res for everyone instead of just 2X the resolution of the old ones... it just makes the game feel even more outdated

@@retrocysper3709 It was released in Japan, the X-Box version was not released.
You don't have to use the new stages, you can use the cleaned up updated sprites with the old backgrounds, and they don't clash with one another at all, rather it looks pretty nice. I never use the new stages on my copy, I stick with the original stages, and use the arranged music option. Of course the AES version of 94 is also included, only you aren't stuck with just 4 credits (SNK used the AES versions of their games for pretty much most of their PS2 compilations).

So what? Longplays are not meant to display EVO-level skills, but to showcase old and/or rare games and preserve them in a way people don't need to go out of their way to buy or emulate a game just to see what it's like.
