The Sahana here is a masterclass in raga bhava. I first heard this recording as a student on a cold midwestern winter night when I was walking back home from college. Incidentally, it was this recording that prompted me to name my daughter Sahana.

Amazing upload! This is coincidentally my favourite concert as well, it's the perfect tribute to Tyagaraja possible for the commemoration of the bicentenary of the master's birth!
Amazing! I thought I shall finish some cleaning work while listening to this and I find myself just listening to the music......pulls like a magnet! Thank you for sharing this. Wonder if the full concert is available
interesting to hear his treatment of sahana....very very subtle...he does not sing some of the famous sangatis associated with it; is it planned, b/c then Lalgudi does cover some of the sangatis i know form K.Arunachanlam and Ramnad K.....its also interesting how 2 of the gr8s, SSI and GNB, do not really have mellifluous voices, but it does not matter....
I think the first part of your comment about Sahana is right. But I humbly beg to differ from the second part of your comment. Sri GNB had a perfect voice.
I was present when Mama told my late father that for Sahana (+Nattaikurinji), his influence was less the nadaswara tradition and more the veena tradition. And yes Lalgudi Mama takes it more in the former style esp around 9:40 onward. (ironically RK himself learned it from the "ultimate" veena tradition school but he infused that with his own dimensions of beauty with lots of sangathis and brughas)

Super,beautiful,absorbing,simply grand.

This makes me want to believe in all the beauty and peace that exists in this world. The primordial state.
