Awesome video and great overview! A note for 4:30 - we've recently made huge improvements to Mic Arm LP's cable channel magnets so they don't pop out like that anymore as well as a few other technical improvements based on community feedback.
@@1smores It really depends on your specific setup and what works/sounds best. I would do some test recordings with the mic in different positions and see what you like the most and then go with that 👍
A note about the ball mount is that it fits _any_ of the Elgato flex arm stuff so you could, theoretically, fit the threaded mount onto a flex arm and then fit that flex arm onto the mic arm. Boom, you've got a mic arm extender.
That "bar thingy" is called a riser Tom, been used in broadcast radio for decades. Nice to see these companies finally trying to make their use more mainstream. I never use mic arms without one. Auray is the "go to" company for the better risers. Their 14" riser is a mainstay in my studio. Every arm here has one. Elgato gets it right again and yes, damn near perfect!
The Tonor T30 has almost every feature you liked about the Rode arms... - Beefy clamp with rubber on the top clamping surface. The bottom is metal, but I have put in a piece of thin cardboard so I could clamp it down without scratching the underside of my desk. - 18.5 in reach on each segment of the arm which gets the mic up and/or out further. I have no problem standing. - All metal construction feels fairly beefy and not plastic and cheap. - Cable management isn't terrible. There's no dedicated channel, but they include 4 cable ties so you can run the XLR cable all the way along the spine. - Threads on the end are standard, so you can use your own mounts; I am using a Zoom ZDM-1 on this arm. - The angle of the mic mount doesn't change as you raise or lower the mic. - The lower segment uses a 3-strut design to make it more sturdy. - The end of the arm also has both lateral and vertical rotation using a single knob, so you can get any required rotation with just two hands. - The kit comes with a pop filter and a 3/8 to 5/8 thread adapter, as well as a standard mic clip for something like an SM-58, if you already have a mic with that form factor. - MSRP is $45
The ball-joint is a great idea, and really should be universal on boom arms. It's just as important to be able to "aim" an end-address mic like the SM7B or an ElectroVoice RE320 or RE20, as it is for a side-address like the NT1 or your Lewitt mic. Your video inspired me to replace one of my boom arms -- thanks!
After watching your video and replacing one of my 3 boom arms with this Elgato product, I loved it so much that I replaced a second one with it. (And as my old PSA1 gets creakier, no doubt I will get a 3rd Elgato.) My favorite feature is how it's designed to hold the mic at the same angle when you raise and lower the arm. Thanks again for this video!
I love your studio, and your on-camera delivery. All super colorful, makes me happy! And makes me consider going beyond black and white for my studio! Anyway, I'm glad I found this video - I'd watched your PSA1+ and was sold ... except for the branding. (Rode is really going way too far with it, even on their wireless go units. Latest version looks ridiculous on someone's shirt!) Anyway, this was the exact video I needed to make sure I'd be happier with the Elgato one for my large condenser mic. Boom arm gonna save me some floor space and I'll feel less anxious about accidentally toppling my "floor" stand with the mic on it!
The Rode arm is actually designed to have the cable run through the arm. Just need to detach the connector and then re-solder after being fed through. Makes a really clean solution.
The internal spring on my Blue Compass boom broke last week and I was suddenly in the market for a new boom. Prime Day on Amazon had the Elgato Wave with a 30% discount, so I bought one after watching your review. It arrived today just in time for an evening teleconference and I'm very happy. The movement is much improved over the Blue Compass. I agree with your comments - this is a great boom! If some of the plastic parts were metal this would be perfect!
14:59 That was the ultimate factor in me not buying the Rode arm. I was born without a right hand, so that setup is actually near impossible for me to use. Kudos to Elgato for making it easy for me
The body itself is under 2lbs, so it really depends on the lens. But honesty I don't know that I'd trust it with a camera that expensive. It works REALLY well for smaller ones like the ZV1F in the example here.
@@tombuck Thanks Tom! I sometimes do stuff where it would be nice to have a flexible camera arm for when I am doing stuff via zoom, I keep putting a tripod on my desk and a more flexible solution like this could be really great. I'll keep looking I think.
It’s an excellent boom for sure! ESP with the SM7B! I totally forgot about the height extension and the extra weight. Found them in my tech stash haha… now it works even better. Cheers!
Nice! That extra height makes a world of difference...and I've now used it for a top down shot with a phone/small camera and it works surprisingly well (I was a little skeptical in the video). 😁
Very good review! I have Elgato Wave 3 White USB Mic and Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP black for around 2-3 months, no complains for now. You deserve more Subs. P.S. I can confirm that Elgato LP arm is now with magnets to hold cable in the channel.
I had the Elgato Wave Mic Arm but it would creep with the RE 20 mic on it. I have no complaints about its mounting system, and I would've kept it had it not been for the creepage.
This has been on my radar since it debuted but have not taken the plunge. I am also liking the Vivo pneumatic lower profile arm quite a bit. The mic endpoint adjustably of this seems really sweet. The cable management is also a winner overall. Thanks for sharing.
That what I thought too. Saw the Vivo on Bark's channel "Obscure Mics" and have been wanting one of those too. LOL... too many great products to choose from these days.... Good times for decent audio/video gear at what seems to be reasonable prices compared to how things used to be... @@tombuck
That Vivo product does look pretty sweet. Do you use the low profile or high-rise one? I'm super happy with my Elgato low profile arm, and have also noticed that Fifine came out with what looks like a copy of it, but I could use a higher profile one like the one Tom's reviewing here or the Vivo.
Thank you for the video. This Mic Arm works great with my desk. It moves out of the way and can be positioned everywhere that I needed. The low profile one doesn’t hold my SM7B quite well. I think it’s too heavy
So the reason why they use that thread is kinda the reason you mentioned. For the entire line of products they have uses the same format that way everything is interchangeable and you don’t have to worry about trying to find a replacement because everything is the same even down to the bottom mounting plate
I really wish Elgato also provided the option to bolt down the desk mount, I already have a hole drilled through my desk for various other mounts I've tried. I know it might be a non issue given how sturdy and reliable Elgato's clamp is, but I'd like to have a more sturdy connection since I tend to throw my mic around a lot when I get waaay into what I'm doing.
Thanks for the great review video, Tom. You sold me, and during the video I found one for $99 (Canadian) on a Boxing Day sale and had to pull the trigger. Along with a new Shure MV7 (also on sale) my setup just got a great upgrade for a great price. Cheers!
@@tombuck, I own the Rode PSA1+ also, but I have the Zaykir microphone stand extension with mine which makes it great. It has enough room to add a mic flag if I want too.
I have the Elgato Wave LP and overall, it's a good mic arm. I can't say great, but good - certainly. I prefer the low profile rather than the tall boom, which is why I went with the LP - BUT, the annoyances you mentioned - like the magnetic cable covers pop off a bit too easily when trying to adjust the cable. I suspect that if they went with stronger magnets that would alleviate the problem. Ditto on your note about the mic mount just coming loose and the mic flopping. Annoying. However, the big issue for me is the LP's inability to hold the ElectroVoice RE20 in any position. We're talking about a mic that weighs less than two pounds on an arm that's supposedly rated for 4.4 pounds and the arm continuously droops. Infuriating. Now, I have been able to tighten the arm nut enough so that the LP holds the RE20 in one position without drooping. But any movement up or down from that one spot and it collapses. There's a wing nut used to tighten the joint but it's too small to get enough leverage without using a dish towel for a little reinforcement - and I'm very reluctant to put a tool on it. And multiple emails with Elgato customer service were no help. Evidently, the description of "the mic droops and I can't get enough torque to hold it in place" seems impossible for anyone there to understand, and my suggestion of updating the wingnut with wings that are longer and give more torque (a la the arm desk mount) fails to resonate. But at the end of the day, we are talking about cheap mic arms in the sub-$100 category, and not something in the O.C. White category of broadcast arms, so I guess there are bound to be some compromises - but at least be able to hold and maneuver a sub-2 pound mic! Of course, the Allen Williams custom XLR cable works brilliantly!
Allen's cables are incredible! I've definitely found the regular arm to be more sturdy than the LP, which is weird because on paper there shouldn't be much of a difference. I will say though, both Heather and I have LP arms that we ordered right when they were released, and I think they've made several changes since then, which I've heard have made it less sturdy.
@@tombuck I looked up the Elgato support emails and I got the LP back in April 2022. It would be interesting to do a comparison to see what changes may have happened to cause these issues.
My desk at work is really close to a wall. And they way it's built I can not move the desk. I have debated getting the elgato heavy base and adapting an arm to work.
Hey if Peter can make a 3 battery charger, why can't you make a mic arm? Maybe Elgato will want to collaborate with you to make Elgato Wave Mic Arm {Tom Buck Edition} 🙂
Coming from the sound side of things I had several GREAT Triad-Orbit Mic Stands (They are the Rolls Royce of Mic Stands) and they cost like it. Mine has the ball joint like the ones with the Ethos and it's works well. But it's way more expensive but I already had it. A regular desk mount will not work on my setup.
Beautiful boom arm. It just looks neater and less noisy. I really love the PSA-1 but I never got it because I didn’t like the way it looked even though I knew it would be great. I’m a huge fan of hiding cables and adjusting the lengths so I always got the Blue Compass arm but arm was frustrating to use.
That's a good point about adding in the AT 8459 to the Rode. Audiotechnica Canada have a predatory pricing policy (that little clamp is almost a hundred bucks). For decades B&H and others have been prohibited from selling to Canadians by the manufacturer. They think it's important to support the middleman.
Thanks for your review, Tom. I am really enjoy it. I spend a lot of time to find good arm for my mic and from your video I understand that Elgato arm is a good choice for me. Thanks a lot!
I have the original PS1 which is fine but I'm going to need another arm here soon to put in my office to hold up my RE20 and the 309A shock mount. Was going to get another Rode but now... Hmmm...
I personally love the Frameworks model that features the groove on top for your own XLR cable. It was expensive, but (at least at the time) seemed like the most high quality and durable option that also looked attractive for virtual meetings with clients. If I need another, I'll definitely be considering this one!
Looks great - shame that it can only cope with 1kg max. The Rode NT1A with the supplied shockmount/popshield is just over that. A longer height extension pole would also be great for getting over the top of larger modern monitors. I run a pair of 4K 32 inch screens and there are very few desk clamp type boom arms that will get over the top and still allow good adjustment. I'm getting close to giving up looking and screwing something into my ceiling!
Great video. For now I’ll have to stick with my Rode PSA 1+. If you ever find one that solves the issues with the microphone holding/adjusting mechanism please let us all know. Like you, that’s my biggest problem area especially since my Rode Procaster is so heavy. I’ve switched to the Gator Deluxe Universal Shockmount and I’s really a great improvement for my Rode Procaster microphone but there’s still room for improvement.
Yeah, that's definitely the weakest point of the Rode arms (and many others). The Audio Technica adapter makes a big difference, but it's still not perfect.
I get your point and second the better overall solution for securing the mic positioning. I have an Elgato LP boom arm and sometimes I'd kill for that extension riser or rod, I've been trying to get it as a spare part but they don't sell it. I'm sure there are third part solutions though. Great and so practical video Tom!
In fact, the best mic arm has long been invented. And no one has yet produced anything better in quality. This is *Yellowtec MiKA Mikrophone Arm.* Yeah, it's more expensive, but it's the best solution on the market. I bought them a couple.
I am a big fan of the Blue Compass Arm. I maybe got a good version of it because i haven't had any issues of weak or too strong tension and the cable management is amazing. I did score a PSA1+ last Christmas for a great deal but I haven't needed to take it out of the box....yet. The super tall look of the extender is....a bit messy IMO but you do you. I might actually take a look at BEACN's low profile arm coming out soon since the wire management for the LP arm is rather finicky and I rather have a set it and forget it setup.
I really like the high profile boom arm and I might pick one back up again. I like the rode psa 1+ however I have a 5/8 inch thread currently stuck onto the boom arm and now I have to find a way to get rid of it
Great video and very thorough… should I get one and replace my PSA 1? Also love the ball mount recommendations as well! We need a better 🎤 attachments and I agree! I have those Elgato ball mounts on my Elgato flex arms. Not a fan of them.. they work but I just wish they were not proprietary!
Since you've already got the PSA1 I don't know that the Elgato would be worth it (although I do love it). Depending on where it's currently lacking, the Audio Technica 8459 adapter could be a good solution!
I use the elgato boom arm and it's no joke my favorite. My only complaint is the clamp if the handle was just a little shorter with a little larger thumb pad on the lever, but still had the ratchet, and maybe a simple clip for the cord when using the extension it would be perfect. Granted when I compare to all the others, I end up appreciating it even more, not sure what I love more my boom arm, or my stream deck( speaking of the deck my only complaint is no replaceable usb cable). I should stop before I sound more like an elgato fanboy. Wait did I mention how much I like the 4k60 pro capture card? :P
Great Video. There is nothing stopping you creating the TB001 - Boom Arm. With your membership level you should be able to reach out to any of the manufacturers and make one under your name (like peter mckinnon did with the bags). --- I would buy a TB001 Boom. Can you put a link to the Audio Technica ball mount and also the other adapter you mentioned.
Here’s the AT adapter: geni.us/EVwpUG1 And man, I would LOVE to be able to do a cusTOM boom arm, but it’s tough to know where to begin. I think someone like Peter McKinnon has significantly more pull, whereas at my level it’s mostly companies just wanting to swap someone’s name on an existing version of something (or manufacture it absolutely as cheaply as possible). I followed the whole process of the guys who made the SwitchPod, and it’s so awesome, but now what an insane amount of work! So yeah, maybe one day 🤷🏻♂️
This high profile model really keeps the desk clean. Since the Elgato naming convention is similar, it takes time to find reviews for this particular model. I made a playlist of all the best reviews I found for the Elgato Wave Mic Arm High Profile. ua-cam.com/play/PLyHjPU6VGWk_wHC-aOyrQ_juabwTaLHtU.html CC: @elgato
Google NOGA PA1800. It's your magic arm but it's 810mm long and holds 10KG. Longer reach than the Wave and holds 10x as much weight at "only" 5X the cost. You'd likely be the first person on youtube to use industrial magic arms as a mic boom. I'd love to see that video!
This kind of looks like a "Magic Arm" from the camera grip world. Definitely makes me interested in the idea of cobbling together a super sturdy custom arm...
what was your process to remove your rode logo from the sleeve? I'd love to do the same without damaging the fabric or coloration under it showing a ghost of the rode logo
Tom did a video specifically on how he did that, which should still be searchable on the channel. As I recall, he combined a couple of techniques. I agree with you that it's a huge improvement.
I mention it towards the end of my PSA1+ review, but I used a solvent called "VLR" that I found on Amazon. It's for removing vinyl letters from clothing and worked really well. Be sure to wear gloves and then use a combo of the solvent plus clorox wipes. If you REALLY soak the logo with the solvent, the letters will start peeling in a minute or two, and then you can use the wipes to remove them. It takes a bit of elbow grease- I think each logo took about 10 minutes total, adding in plenty more solvent when needed. Don't use paper towels to wipe because they'll tear apart and regular cloths will start making the sleeves look rough. The alcohol wipes did the best job overall. Then I wiped everything down with water to try and remove the solvent and left it outside for a few hours to dry 👍
Copy some of the black sleeve texture, as a mask over the logos, in your editing software. No solvent, no DIY, simple non-destructive trick. If you don't move the boom arm while filming, you don't even have to track the logos to match the position of your masking. Fix it in post, the sayi goes...
Cool, not much more pricier than the Gater Frameworks 3000.. Nice, think I’ll get one. Oh hey Can you drop me a link to where I can get the blue foam thingy for the Shure SM7B. thanks
Hey, I commented on your other video about the low profile Elgato mic arm. Now I’m stuck deciding between this Elgato tall wave arm and the PSA1+. Currently I’m slightly in favor of this one over the PSA1+ but I was wondering if this has a way to mount into a desk grommet hole like the PSA1+ does?
It does NOT have the same grommet as the Rode unfortunately, and I don't think there's an aftermarket one to buy separately. You really can't go wrong either way, but the Elgato has added benefits of a bit more height, fully hidden cable management, and much more discreet branding (if any of those things matter to you).
There's no reason- I'd love to check out some of their stuff. I guess I haven't sought it out because it does tend to be pricey and when it comes to this kind of gear I do like to find things that are easy to recommend for people on a budget.
Ok, question. That elgato mic arm has a big retaining ring that rubs up on the xlr cable end when it’s plugged into the SM7b. How can you get around this without getting an extension?
From what I’ve noticed, the cable’s connector kind of pushes against the ring but doesn’t seem to be negatively affected by it. I guess time will tell, it another option would be to find a smaller ring (or even just a nut or something) to give a bit more breathing room.
It depends on the arm, but it really is pretty darn tall with that extension tube. Way taller than any of my other "tall" arms. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Did you just give them a pro arm idea?🤔. Appreciate what elgato has done is bring a prosumer category back. I wish there was more in the space to get some more competition in the space
Elgato really does a solid job with prosumer-type stuff. This arm is amazing, the Stream Deck and Cam Link are pretty legendary, and their green screen is insanely practical.
None of the boom arms I've looked at have a mounting clamp that has a wide enough mouth. My desk is very thick, and doesn't have the thin edges I would need to be able to mount the clamp.
Could you please do a comparison video of the Elgato and the Sensic SA-30 boom arms?? The Sensic is $20 cheaper and looks comparable. I’m so curious about whether or not it’s is a similar or better fit for the Lewitt LCT 240 Pro than the Elgato.
I record VoiceOver and strongly prefer to do so while standing. I currently have an RE-20 mounted to a stationary mic stand which is in the corner of my office maybe 24 inches from my desk (laterally, so the mic its self is that distance plus say 18-20 inches up from the desk). I am trying to find a way to use a a boom arm like the Elgato in your video but for standing use. Any recommendations? Thank you, and great videos.
If it's a USB mic it can connect directly to the computer, and if it's an XLR mic it will need to run through an XLR interface or mixer, which then connect to the computer. Most USB mics come with USB cables, but XLR mics usually don't, so you'd need to get an XLR cable separately.
a little off topic here but do you mind explaining the difference in use cases between the rodecaster pro 2 vs the zoom f6 and would they both benefit from a preamp such as the Cloudlifter CL-1 or CL-2? I'm curious to know the pros and cons with everything I mentioned for livestreaming podcasts or just to record in general before uploading. Also, I'm on the fence between getting the Shure SM7B or the Rode NT1 5th generation that has 32 bit float. Would it matter if any other mic was interfacing with the zoom f6? For dynamic range purposes? Love the content you make here. It's been both entertaining and informative.
They're similar in a lot of ways: both can record high quality and have enough gain where you shouldn't need any boosters or Cloudlifters and both can be used as audio interfaces for streaming. The RCP has the benefit of more channels and physical faders along with a ton of on board EQ options (so it's better for streaming...and the RC Duo is a great choice too!). When it comes to the Shure vs. Rode mic, it's really just personal preference. If you're running the Rode as an XLR, then you won't have the benefit of 32 bit float, so it doesn't really matter. Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks for the review! What is the size of the pin that engages the desk clamp? I'm trying to make a mic stand mount for a DJ Facade Table, and the size of the pin is the missing, er... link. Lol
Rode sent them out a while back and I'm hoping it means they'll be releasing them soon. Especially since the new NT1 mic comes in different colors and they have all the different colored XLR cables and stuff, it'd be awesome to have colorful headphones too.
Sounded great until you said it was only rated at 1000G. I have an NTR and that comes in at 1,045G. This means that I'll need the PSA1+ as it's rated to take 1200G.
Hello Tom! A great video, trhank you! Did you see the new Rode mic arm? the Rode DS2? What do you think about? Look like very solid and good quality, but about 100 dollars.... I think it's a but too much... whatever, I'm very excity to see one video about it!
I bought one last week! It's super nice, but yeah, really expensive. It's very heavy duty and lets you position things with a lot of flexibility, but I really don't know if I can truly justify the price over my $20 Samson tabletop stands.
Hello! I am looking to buy an AT2020, and i wanted to see a good edited, professional review, so i wanted to ask if you could review it so i can be “shure” that it is a good mic, thanks.
You know, I really need to check that mic out! The original version was on my wish list for ages back in like 2007ish? I thought it would be the coolest thing ever...but then I just never got one 🤷🏻♂️
Tom, I would love to know where did you get the colored ear pads and top colored part for your NTH-100’s been searching like crazy and not been able to find them even directly on Rode’s site.
I used this vinyl letter remover: geni.us/letterremover It took some elbow grease, but worked really well, just be sure to wear gloves! Don't be afraid to use A LOT of it either. I poured that stuff on it, let it sit for about 30 seconds and then scrubbed with a Clorox wipe and the letters came right off. Don't use a paper towel because it can leave lots of fuzz and bits all over the arm, and a regular towel can leave the sleeves looking scuffed in a strange way. Alcohol wipes seem to be the best. It took me about 10 minutes per logo to get them totally gone.
Great video! I'm tempted to get one of these, but I have a really specific question. I've got my current Rode PSA1 mount built in to the desk, would the Elgato arm fit into the Rode holder or is the stem at the bottom too big?
@@tombuck Ooooo now that's interesting, loose fit is honestly the answer I was hoping for because I might be able to pad it out a little with some filling! Thanks for checking, think I'm gonna grab it :D

- MSRP is $45
That's a pretty killer price!

What an awesome arm idea. It's rather al-arm-ing how easy you make it sound! Thank you!
I'm up in arms that no one has made it yet!
The Rode arm is actually designed to have the cable run through the arm. Just need to detach the connector and then re-solder after being fed through. Makes a really clean solution.
Yeah that’s a super cool option! Just a little tricky if you change out cables often (which I do).
Damn how is his audio so smooth?? It sounds so perfect!!
Yes! And also to have a second desk mount adaptor that fits standard cable ports like the Rode PSA1+ has would make this mount 💯!

It’s a strange thing that they seem to have overlooked. Glad this one works for you!
Would you use it for a camera like a Sony A7SIII or would that be too heavy ?
Oh nice! @@tombuck
That ball joint is actually awesome. Have added it and the elgato boom to my wish list :).
love your videos, Tom, thanks for recommending the Audio Technica adapter
That little thing is such a game changer!
Very good review! I have Elgato Wave 3 White USB Mic and Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP black for around 2-3 months, no complains for now. You deserve more Subs.
P.S. I can confirm that Elgato LP arm is now with magnets to hold cable in the channel.
Glad they updated the design! Thanks for the kind words 🙏
I own two of them, love them..
Your reviews are always helpful! Thank you
Glad you like them!
I had the Elgato Wave Mic Arm but it would creep with the RE 20 mic on it. I have no complaints about its mounting system, and I would've kept it had it not been for the creepage.
I'm sorry it gave you the creeps 😬
@@tombuck 😂😂
Your videos are trully some of the best on here. Thank you.
Wow, thank you! It really means a lot to hear that. 🙏
The magnets on the updated LP are quite strong, actually takes effort to pull them up.
This has been on my radar since it debuted but have not taken the plunge. I am also liking the Vivo pneumatic lower profile arm quite a bit. The mic endpoint adjustably of this seems really sweet. The cable management is also a winner overall. Thanks for sharing.
Vivo seems to make surprisingly good stuff!
That what I thought too. Saw the Vivo on Bark's channel "Obscure Mics" and have been wanting one of those too. LOL... too many great products to choose from these days.... Good times for decent audio/video gear at what seems to be reasonable prices compared to how things used to be... @@tombuck
Really nice. I still can't give up my vivo mic arm, but that's the closest I've seen to it's functionality
I’ll have to check it out! Vivo makes nice stuff.
I got this over the Rode, to work with my NT USB mic, its awesome! no regrets...
Thank you for the video. This Mic Arm works great with my desk. It moves out of the way and can be positioned everywhere that I needed. The low profile one doesn’t hold my SM7B quite well. I think it’s too heavy
i got a very light mic, an at875r. I hope the metal weight will prevent it from jumping around
Yeah, I do find it a bit strange that they don't at least have it available as an optional accessory.
Hello Tom! Can you tell me where you bought that blue pop filter for the SM7B? It looks incredible!
Reporterstore.com 👍
Thank you! :D@@tombuck
@@tombuckcan you use the yetti caster mic on this boom arm mic from elgato and any shock mount ?
@tombuck I love your color xlr cables…. Do you have a place to buy color USB C cables?
Tom, what are you using to mount the mics to the wall?
I “borrowed” the idea from this crazy guy named Daniel Batal. 😉
geni.us/shortmount
Thanks for the great review video, Tom. You sold me, and during the video I found one for $99 (Canadian) on a Boxing Day sale and had to pull the trigger. Along with a new Shure MV7 (also on sale) my setup just got a great upgrade for a great price. Cheers!
The Triad-Orbit Micro M2 Short Mic Boom Stand Adapter is probably what you want for your microphone.
I have a feeling we'll be seeing the Rode PSA1+ back on the desk! 😊
It's always fun to switch between them! But the versatility of the Elgato has really won me over.
I have the low profile version of this and absolutely love it
This guy changes my life in every video
Hey if Peter can make a 3 battery charger, why can't you make a mic arm? Maybe Elgato will want to collaborate with you to make Elgato Wave Mic Arm {Tom Buck Edition} 🙂
Hey Elgato, my inbox is open 😉😁
waited a long time for this! thanks tom
with the velcro to attach to the extender, I used the velcro strap that came with the boom arm that kept it together, not ideal, but its free.
That’s a good idea! It’s just such a big beefy strap that I wanted to use it on some hefty cable rolls instead 😁
Good video...but I got the both the psa1 and psa1+ boom arms because of you. I am invested in rode now, so great video but I am staying with Rode.
Love those ETHOS mounts! Super sturdy. I didn't realize they made full sized arms.
There’s a lot of really nice practicality there, even if the build quality isn’t quite the same as the rode.
Hmmm...
Loved the Podcastage shoutout!
What Blue XLR Cable are you using on the SM7B? Are you using any preamp to it or only the roadcaster? thanks man, awesome work!
Thank you! I've been using Rode's XLR cables, which I quite like overall: geni.us/bluexlr
And yep, it's running straight to the RCP2. 👍
It’s so strange it’s not available separately 🤔
In fact, the best mic arm has long been invented. And no one has yet produced anything better in quality. This is *Yellowtec MiKA Mikrophone Arm.* Yeah, it's more expensive, but it's the best solution on the market. I bought them a couple.
Okay but lets highlight the best aspect of it. That extra pipe lets The Aquabats mic up their Tall friends and Small friends equally.
I think they can add texture to plastic and it won’t feel cheap. All they need to do is add grain or fine silky texture and it will feel much better.
Haha, they just seem to make great stuff! But you're right- the non-replaceable cable on the Stream Deck is a bit of a bummer.
I’m sold, thanks Tom great review
The lower arm i find way to too when raising up and down.😮
Great Video.
Here’s the AT adapter: geni.us/EVwpUG1
And man, I would LOVE to be able to do a cusTOM boom arm, but it’s tough to know where to begin.

They
They also have shorter models, PA1500: 510mm long and holds 15KG. PA1300: 310mm long and holds 25KG.
This kind of looks like a "Magic Arm" from the camera grip world. Definitely makes me interested in the idea of cobbling together a super sturdy custom arm...
im gonna use this with the AT897 :3
Both great pieces of gear 😁
what was your process to remove your rode logo from the sleeve?
Nice video as usual but let me ask you a question: Why don't you try Yellowtec products?
There's no reason- I'd love to check out some of their stuff. I guess I haven't sought it out because it does tend to be pricey and when it comes to this kind of gear I do like to find things that are easy to recommend for people on a budget.
5:52 How did you take the logos off?
I used some vinyl letter remover solvent that I found on Amazon. It's for taking letters off of t shirts and stuff and worked well.
TRIAD-ORBIT M2R may work for you? I had same issue like you and it helps
Hello! Thanks for the video! The picture in the video looks amazing! Please tell me what camera and what lens did you use to shoot this review?
My main camera is the Sony FX3 and Sony 24 1.4 lens. I use that and also a Zeiss 85mm for the b roll shots and stuff.
@@tombuck Thank you! You impressed me very much, I wish you creative success!
Love the review, the best one out there in my opinion! I have a question though, do you think with the extension it could go over monitor arms etc?
It depends on the arm, but it really is pretty darn tall with that extension tube. Way taller than any of my other "tall" arms.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
You could always design your own boom arm and throw a Kickstarter.
I would if I had the design skills and manufacturing knowledge. 😁
That’s definitely tricky. Rode has the mounts that let you drill directly into a surface, but I’ve never had the guts to actually try it.
all I need is that extension thing
They should really sell it separately.
Well, I guess I'll be getting this boom arm. Do you think a Shure MV7+work on this Elgato boom arm ?
Could you please do a comparison video of the Elgato and the Sensic SA-30 boom arms?? The Sensic is $20 cheaper and looks comparable. I’m so curious about whether or not it’s is a similar or better fit for the Lewitt LCT 240 Pro than the Elgato.
Ok time to rewatch this since I got the Elgato arm
Interested to hear your thoughts!
How does the Elgato Wave mic arm compare with the Blue Compass mic arm
I record VoiceOver and strongly prefer to do so while standing. I currently have an RE-20 mounted to a stationary mic stand which is in the corner of my office maybe 24 inches from my desk (laterally, so the mic its self is that distance plus say 18-20 inches up from the desk). I am trying to find a way to use a a boom arm like the Elgato in your video but for standing use. Any recommendations? Thank you, and great videos.
What else do I need to make this work with my iMac and zoom? Mic and ?
Could this be used as your stand for your shotgun mic and not appear on camera?
Yes! The Rode can do that too, but the added height of the Elgato is really nice to have for a boom mic.
Thanks for the review!
What is the size of the pin that engages the desk clamp?
I'm trying to make a mic stand mount for a DJ Facade Table, and the size of the pin is the missing, er... link. Lol
7:00 Its not really proprietary, there are many unknown brands using this system.
Where did you get colorful ear cushions and head strap cushion
Hey Tom, how did you get rid of the awful Rode logos on the PSA1+?
I used this vinyl letter remover: geni.us/letterremover
It took some elbow grease, but worked really well, just be sure to wear gloves!
@@tombuck This is amazing, thank you!
You convinced me, bought one
I'm sure you'll love it!
Great video! I'm tempted to get one of these, but I have a really specific question.
I've got my current Rode PSA1 mount built in to the desk, would the Elgato arm fit into the Rode holder or is the stem at the bottom too big?
I just checked and the Elgato DOES fit into the roe holder, but it's a slightly loose fit.
@@tombuck Ooooo now that's interesting, loose fit is honestly the answer I was hoping for because I might be able to pad it out a little with some filling!
Thanks for checking, think I'm gonna grab it :D
