Hello HJ. Great video. Especially love seeing all the different journals. They were quite unique choices. One of my favorites for letter writing is from Amalfi. Their deckled paper is just so elegant. Have you seen this brand? They are out of Italy. Thanks for staying up so late to share your finds with us.

I have waited several days debating whether to comment. I have been subscriber to your channel for quite some time. I think I started back when you had less than 3,000 subscribers. I have always enjoyed your style and content. I appreciated that you said " there were no gatekeepers." I'm 77 years old retired and living on a fixed income. My wife is in a memory care unit with dementia. I am not mentioning this looking for sympathy, I realize my situation mirrors too many other families. I find pens a welcome diversion. Since my budget is limited, I don't often purchase more expensive pens. I do own a few upscale pens, (Pilot 74, Pelikan M200 for example, upscale for me). However, I tend to purchase more less expensive pens, many from China. I purchase a profile I like and that has been reviewed as a good writer and well made. The pens I purchase that I enjoy, regardless the source, I don't consider as garbage. Complaints about the Jinhao 80 being an unfair rendition of the Lamy 2000 as an example have been mentioned. As most have said, this is from initial viewing. There are many differences between the two once examined. I feel copying a popular pen profile is not a new or Chinese practice. For instance how many brands have pen that harkens to the Parker Duofold.
I just wanted to get this off my chest. I still enjoy your channel and it is my go-to site for info about pens. Keep up the good work!!
    Thanks

Sorry, a week behind in comments, I did watch in real time, but that was after getting home from a Thur-Mon night stay in hospital! Just skimmed the transcript to refresh my memory. A great stream as always, even though I was a bit out of it. Enjoyed several parts, but will only comment on one. Thank you for your forth right candor re: pen copy’s, clones, fakes. Well said and I agree. In recent months it seems to me that some reviewer seem to be bending over backwards to not step on the Chinese copiers and even feature them in their reviews. I do not watch nor subscribe to those channels. Nuff said on this point for now. - you said it all and well thank you. I look forward to more Italian B-roll as it appears over time. Now on to last Thursday’s M1000/M800 quandary, looking forward to it and commenting.

"Fiorenza" is old Italian for "Firenze"; it was "Florentia" in Latin.
Example from Dante: "Godi, Fiorenza, poi che se’ sì grande,
che per mare e per terra batti l’ali,
e per lo ’nferno tuo nome si spande."

Enjoyed your review of your Italy trip very much. I have a friend going in April and was looking for shopping suggestions for pens and journals for her. I've been watching your channel for a few months now and find much pleasure in them. I also like your library, partly because I have several of the same titles in mine, not all read yet. At 74-years old I don't have the same pen budget as you but was heartened to hear you also buy pens under $150. I generally stay under $100, my most recent a Monteverde Ritma with medium nib which writes very smoothly. Congrats on your weight loss and improved health. I've lost 70 pounds since January with the Mounjaro injections and am feeling much better. Only 110 to go.

Yeah, whoo, that panic stuff. It is hard to know what has subconsciously programmed us. Like that sudden epiphany, we can have sudden panic. Most programs have an organized outlet, but some are dysfunctional. Read a story recently where a young Surveyor just passed out cold on occasion. Turns out the trigger was the word 'mountain'. He had somehow gotten hypnotized to react poorly to that word. We are all subconsciously programmed in many ways; When their is a glitch, finding, remembering, and understanding our triggers can be challenging. (Freud) Or, conversely providing counter suggestions and self observations are used to extinguish the behavior without understanding (Skinner) are employed. Sometimes they just give meds till the patient shuts up (American).

I'm really sorry for missing out on the digital darkage video, completely fled my mind.
I put it on my "watch later"-list, but then forgot about it.
Really like that kind of stuff: We heroic knights (and ladies!) of the "inked sword" fighting our way through the apple farm.
You love parrots? Then you would like it in Mannheim and Heidelberg... There are swarms of collared parakeet flying around here, which are so numerous that they darken the sun! Sometimes a group of them sits in a tree, bending it's branches to breaking point. (Because it just can't support the weight of 3 tons of birds.) You don't see any foliage, just birds.
Even if the MB was an unexpected purchase, I'm totally with you there. At the end of a life we tend to regret the things we passed on more, than the things we did.
I love the store of signum, firenze. Sadly, I wasn't there for some 30 years, last time was, when I was still studying at tech-school.

The heavily illustrated journal would give me pause in selecting the nib tip. For the small spaces, a F one or an VF would be the choice and the color of the ink would have to be complementary to the hues or a hue in the drawing. Ah, careful, slower cursive would have to be engaged. The spine/binding on the second simply sang with gravitas. The third seemed to call out for philosophical musings of import. To use any other writing instrument than a fountain pen in them would be sacrilege.

Hi. That’s not for political reasons. This is philosophical. I have issues with Chinese manufacturing, their treatment of the environment, etc. But that was not what I was speaking about. Perhaps I will at a future time. That would fall within the purvey of this Channel.
What I am speaking about here is that any product that is a copy of another is a counterfeit, is dishonest, and a mere shadow of the original. I think that a copy of an expensive pen is like a cheap copy of an expensive bag or watch.
I think that is an important distinction, My Friend.
