I love how disgusted Terrance was when he said hi instead of his hello. Also how sad is it that this 15 minute video taught me more about black history then my actual school? Also also why tf did I not learn about Josephine Baker before!? She sounds awesome!
My favorite black historic figure (I just recently wrote on her) is Phillis Wheatley. She was a civil rights and abolitionist poet during the American revolutionary times. She could speak English, Greek, and Latin at the age of 9 and started writing poetry at the age of 13 and was shortly published after. She was the third woman and the first slave to be published in America. She actively fought the stigma at the time of how Africa Americans couldn’t take care of themselves with her art. She was internationally renowned and George Washington (who also believed the toxic stigma about slaves) loved her poetry and invited her over and she single handedly changed his mind about how black people couldn’t hold their own. She changed the opinion of America’s founding father. She was a vital stepping stone for black women and women in general in the literature world.
Tsunde Rei wow! that’s amazing! I read one of her poems last year in my AP Literature class, but we didn’t go into that much detail about her past! Thanks for the incredible information!
Typical British Person same😂 also Thomas you don’t have very limited knowledge! You try so hard to learn about so much so you can understand and it seems you do pretty well at it! ☺️
i personally love how he admits to it!! we all have limited knowledge, and should always be trying to expand on that (which thomas does an excellent job of!!)
Can you do a mental health facts video for mental health awareness month?? I don’t believe you did one last year and I would LOVE to see one. Personally I struggle with anxiety I love being able to relate to others in the same position.
So this video prompted me to look it up, and even though 1995 is the year Mississipi ratified the 13th amendment, they didn't actually notify the US Archivist... so it actually STILL didn't *officially* happen until 2013, apparently. WTF, Mississippi.
We had all of the laws in place to prevent slavery, we just forgot about ratifying it. I learned about this in class this year, so... please don’t hate on mah state!! 😳👌
Play Thing he doesn’t assume they know the most about this month. It’s just black history month. Keyword being, black. He has them research significant people and events that don’t get much attention in order to shine light on them. He isn’t making any assumptions.
gjaddajg there isn’t a white history month because white history is an overwhelming majority of any history class besides ones directed at a specific culture or minority group.
Yeah, I can understand that. The people that I named at the end there were just some of the African American historical figures that I learned in my AP US History class this year
"Josephine Baker started out her carrer as a vaudeville showgirl and then moved to France where she became the first person of color to become an international entertainer and to star in a major motion picture ... SHE WAS ALSO A SPY!" "WHAT?! Wait, WHAT??" Literally same reaction, what a twist! ^^
Sometimes I wish teachers would show Thomas Sanders videos in class They have such good messages and lessons and beyond all are so entertaining AND EDUCATIONAL
wow, I would love to see a movie about Josephine Baker... I mean, entertainer, film star and spie? bisexual as well? come on guys!! this sounds perfekt to me!! 😍😍
Cody Whitlock Sun welcome!! Hope you enjoy your time here in this fandom, or, if you don't want to go into the fandom, hope you enjoy all the wonderful content Thomas and his friends have to offer ^^
Sadly I knew about her and also I'm afraid her remains are still in some museum's "not for show" collection and also I think the country that has them refused to bring them back to South Africa. It's a really horrendous story
So i went on Wikipedia and apparently after South Africa requested her remains (officially only in 1994 but the movement to bring her remains back started way before) France agreed only in 2002.
Yeah that kind of surprised me as well, I had heard of freak shows and stuff akin to that but I had never heard of a “human zoo” (apparently they were very similar to freak shows?)
Rose 831 I did a presentation on Claudette Colvin in eight grade and it was interesting to find out that she was actually the one that kind of started that movement in a way.
Man what reeeeeally pisses me off (about this year and last) is that these people sound SO COOL and I never heard 99% of their names in school. EVER. I remember last year there was a man mentioned who was the openly gay advisor of MLK and I thought HOW IN THE DIDDLY ZOOP HAVE I NOT HEARD OF THIS MAN??!? seriously these people are amazing not just because they're black people in a pretty racist world doing incredible things but because they're amazing HUMANS doing so much cool shiz and we don't learn about it in school because...??? It's not "relevant to the students??" because it's not "important enough??" idk man I just think if my school history curriculum was more diverse and varied in the people it highlighted I would've been more engaged because I heard about the same like 2 dozen people for years and YEARS and it got sooooo old after a while and I lost interest :/
Jeez Josephine Baker sounds like the most amazing person ever! (Sorry if I spelled her name wrong!) Derionna was saying all these things about her and I was like “ooh that’s cool... wait she did that too? ... and that?! ... WAS SHE A REAL LIFE SUPERHERO”
THOMAS PULLING THROUGH WITH THAT AMAZING CONTENT ON A GREAT TOPIC U GO BEAN (and it’s on time ahhhh????) This makes me so proud and I’m so glad I picked you to devote my entire existence too WOOO OVERSHARING BYE

Joey Flores personally I think it should be every month like I said they don't tech black history on black history month me being a black personality I would like to know more about my history
Hey Thomas!!! Cool idea for a video. Love to see a new upload! Edit: I got noticed by Thomas?????? How did this happen??? I’m legit screeching into a pillow right now he made my entire month
Dahlia, Derionna, Jamahl, Leo, and Terrence were all charming and informative! Also, Dahlia has a stunning smile, it was really nice to meet Derionna, Jamahl had a wonderful intro, Leo last minute question research #relatable, Terrence has a glorious voice.
There is a great stage play and BBC radio drama called ‘Red Velvet’ about Ira Aldridge. That is worth checking out if you can get hold of it in some form.
The Old Globe in Balboa Park (California) did Red Velvet in this past season. I was lucky enough to see it, and I think everyone going into theatrical professions should know about Aldridge. He was forced to wear white-face for most of his career, as critics ruined him for no other reason than his race. He deserved better, and the play is a beautiful living tribute to his life.
I absolutely love this because it reminds me of how little we are taught in schools and yet I learn more things from Thomas and his friends than in my school. God bless Thomas Sanders and his friends
Next time my history teacher starts ranting about all the great white people who did awesome things, i'll most definitely make sure to talk to her about all the incredible black people who have acheived things just as fascinating and inspirational. Nice dude!
Wow! I've never heard of her before but now I have to look her up 💙
I love Wheatley, I did a report on her in fourth grade and I was so shook at how incredible she was
Entertaining AND educational! THIS is the quality content I’m here for!
Frances K. Love that
Derionna: Thomas knows things
Thomas: I know limited things
literally me😅!!
Typical British Person very limited knowledge!
Thomas Sanders no!! Youre one of the most roundly educated people i know, you're awesome! 💕

So this video prompted me to look it up, and even though 1995 is the year Mississipi ratified the 13th amendment, they didn't actually notify the US Archivist... so it actually STILL didn't *officially* happen until 2013, apparently.
WTF, Mississippi.
How did i not know this i was born there and still live here
We had all of the laws in place to prevent slavery, we just forgot about ratifying it. I learned about this in class this year, so... please don’t hate on mah state!! 😳👌
Hey, I'm originally from Louisiana. I can't talk.
Mississippi still has the confederate flag as part of their state flag so I honestly wasn’t surprised, disappointed yes, but not surprised
celestinenox me too
This made me so happy to see a UA-camr celebrate Black History Month in a way that involves no stereotypes and educates people in an interesting way.
Kay Styles which youtuber uses stereotypes in their videos?
Play Thing wouldn’t it be worse if he invited a bunch of white people over to help him learn about black history?
gjaddajg no it’s not. Black history month is very very important to so many people
Play Thing he doesn’t assume they know the most about this month.
LEO!!!! I MISSED YOUR FACE!!!!
OMG THOMAS LOVE YOU. Thanks for liking this!
Anyone else notice how in the thumbnail Leo is super tall? And when he started his introduction, we couldn't see his face. I was dying. XD
I feel like I learn more watching these videos than I ever did in my history classes in school. How did I not know about these amazing individuals?
Ruby Lynn ikr I learned more here than I have in the 8 years I've been in school
Because most American history classes are totally whitewashed and only talk about people of color when absolutely necessary.
Its a sad truth.
IKR
_Fake_ MU see, I'd agree with you if I didn't learn about Du Bois and Douglas in college or had to Google who Truth was. :/
Yeah, I can understand that. The people that I named at the end there were just some of the African American historical figures that I learned in my AP US History class this year

Am i the only one who's jaw dropped when they heard human zoo.
the greatest showman also came to mind
Sadly I knew about her and also I'm afraid her remains are still in some museum's "not for show" collection and also I think the country that has them refused to bring them back to South Africa. It's a really horrendous story

Claudette Colvin, she was the first person to refuse her seat at only age 15. (nine months before Rosa Parks)
