The Beyonder is a kid playing with his action figures.
I mean, the comic was made to sell toys.
Their version of Trelane minus the parents
Like master hand from super smash bros.
First victim of cancel culture when Mr po po was allowed as drawn the beholder had white Christians but-hurt
This was a nice trip through memory lane. I bought all of these NEW when I was a kid back in 1984.
Just today picked up all 9 JuniorPress (Dutch) releases.
Me too! I was in 3rd grade and was a week too late to get #1 but subscribed to get the rest. My local comics/D&D store had the back issue of #1. Memories!
This is still my favorite comic series of all time. Spiderman gets his suit, Hulk loses the mind of Banner and becomes cast out of earth by Dr. Strange. Thing stays behind for year before his return and then Secret Wars 2 arrives which follows just how powerful the M man was. You just cannot get better storylines today.
Thanks. I loved "Secret Wars" as a kid and the video reminded me of many things forgotten. James Rhodes being "Iron Man." the origins of new characters, etc. Also, the Bruce Banner "controlled" Hulk. I think soon after this, Dr.Strange sent him to another dimension because he was an unhinged rage monster. The Hulk always was Bruce Banner, just a particular part of his psyche.
Cap: magneto is a terrorist
Wolverine:That's just what a big army calls a little army
YES
I was 8 when this came out & it blew my mind. The artwork, the characters, & story really spoke 2 me in a way that no other comic book series has since. Perfect in my eyes.
Wow, this is the Secret Wars I read back when I was 14 years old......in 1984.....
Wow, how quickly you can get sucked into the story and action.........
I got to get out of here while I can and finish it later.......Thanks !!!!
I can't even perceive a movie like this, it would be too amazing if marvel makes this the next mcu in the future
Kaio_ Kage wouldn’t happen due to copyright of X-Men and fantastic 4 ... and spider man... sinister 6 could happen tho
The Police yeah but I don’t think they should use everyone in one movie just sprinkle a little bit from each
Like 2 avengers fantastic 4 and 2 X-Men and 3 guardians of the galaxy or silver Surfer for secret wars
Eli4Music yeah, it would be too crowded for a movie. But I don’t think the guardians should be in there because they aren’t involved in this story. That could leave room for possibly 3 more x men. But we know if it does happen spider man will definitely be there.
Now it could happen
Russo brothers just confirmed after A4 this is what they will work on next when they come back to comics
You know its the 80s when Ironman has rollerblades installed on his suit
You know you must be a 90s baby when you're calling roller skates roller blades :P
Shut up both of you! I was born in the 80s and I was a kid in the 90s and I don't know shit about those shitty things! If I wanna go to some place... I drive a car! so SHUP UP! U___U
Whoa, watch out. Baller alert.
What about She Hulks Leg Warmers?
vic ferg triggered
Thank you so much for posting this. My childhood is now being relived. I have the complete original collection of Secret Wars :)
+Nourished_gibbon thanks for taking the time to watch our videos. that means alot to us. =)
+ComicIsland hey, no problem ;) 👍👍👍
Me, too, & Secret Wars II as well (when Beyonder comes to Earth). Unfortunately, the only one in our sets that has some decent value is Secret Wars I #8 (origin of the symbiote that becomes Venom). If they'd crank a movie out, they'd all go up. Anyway, I love 'em all either way. I go through & read them all once every few years or so.
I was supposed to be studying, but secret wars
Kevin Bresciani get back to homework!!! lol jk. thanks for checking out our video. =)
ComicIsland Amazing videos man, thank you! Any more classic stories/sagas like this. There is something about the art, the simplicity of them that makes me love it. I watched "Time Runs Out" as well. You narrate it brilliantly, and go over more detail than others. But the story for me is just a bit too much.
I feel the same about the DC crisis stories too. Also you said about the art here being hand drawn, s the art in most comics today done by PC, photoshop etc?
I am now a C student
Bucky Monk it's a mix. a lot of stuff is still done by hand but enhanced and coloured through some pretty cool computer programs. it's very impressive but unfair to compare it to the older art style
Kevin Bresciani There is only Secret Wars...
"Get Back" by Ludacris is the most fitting Doctor Doom theme song ever.
when heard Ludacris music come on during the comic i was like wtf?
That was Dooms walkout song, took inspiration from Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Same 😂
Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to put that together, that was a really fun watch. Learned a lot about the characters and marvel universe.
I was 8 years old when this secret wars came out. I feel old.
deliverednow I was born around that year and now im covering tons of comic book series. i too feel old , but i feel young at the same time =)
deliverednow I WAS30
SHUPPPP
+Ronald Rickard lol you're old.
30...?!? Excellent !! I was feeling bad because I was 16 ( compared to the aforementioned 8...), but now I'm feeling much better !! Lol
It's all relative, I suppose, after all...
I was 14 😢😢
This video reminds me of why I got hooked on the series in the first place: the art (Mike Zeck and John Beatty) is GORGEOUS! And the story by Jim Shooter was fun and suspenseful!
Kudos to you for a video well done! This was one of my favorite comic book arcs. I liked how the symbiote later to be known as Venom was introduced as an alien costume. I'm also very impressed that the Molecule Man dropped an entire mountain range on top of the fleeting heroes and the Hulk was lifting it like the legendary Titan, Atlas of Greek mythology. That's why he's the INCREDIBLE Hulk!!!! Also on as a side observation, when the X-Men we're battling the villains, Wolverine slices the Absorbing Man's arm off (with ease of course) and in order to reattach the severed limb, he just places the arm back on the stump and reverts back to flesh form, only to pass out from the intense shock. Creed was one of the most inventive, underappreciated super villains of the Marvel Universe. Too bad he and the Wrecking Crew weren't part of the MCU. Those and many more elements of this comic makes reading comics more enjoyable back in that year.
This is the story I watch to wash the taste of movie Dr. Doom out of my mouth. How do you manage to consistently get this awesome of a character wrong??!?!?
Agreed. Probably the greatest comic villain of all time and they still put so little thought into him in the movies. Doom could and should be awesome. Maybe Kirby’s greatest creation, and that’s saying something!
I don't know why, but I laughed when I heard Get Back by Ludacris.
Check out our review to the sequel here - ua-cam.com/video/pqggPF5TDLE/v-deo.html
Wow that was awesome. I never read the original comic story when it came out but became interested in it when the 90's Spider-Man tv show did a run on it. Great job!!!
Secret Wars (1984) and Civil War are hands down the greatest arcs that Marvel has ever produced.
What about the X-Men Brood saga, which introduced the New Mutants.
Phoenix and Dark Phoenix Saga, imo.
Infinity Gauntlet, Clash of champions.
Old Man Logan
How dare u
What was a simple intended to be "non-canonical" story to sell TOYS turned into an event so epic they still feed off of it today.
I've really noticed no re-printed Secret Wars 1 at the bookstore, only the headache inducing modern whatever it is... IMO afraid they'll realize that the first story was awesome and the modern stuff sucks no matter how better the art is.
Man I loved this series! One of the best!! I was thirteen when this came out. I would wait each new one which i could only get from local drugstore lol!! Goodole days
"Liked" & Subscribed for that one.Thank you extremely much for doing thee story just like that.It didn't feel rushed, wasn't hella spotty w/lots of sh*t missing like MOST youtube comic-bookers who do storys.(Especially those guys who got full of they're selfs after they got into the higher number of subs) I really do appreciate you for this and you have def gained a fan.
Thanks for covering this story. Straightforward, no waffling, no boasting. Just the story and some info afterwards. Thanks,
I fucking lost it at 8:36. Nice choice of music XD
I was listening at work and started dying laughing
Shbvhvih right!!!???!!!!!! That ish caught me off guard but it was well placed, and even gave more interest in watching the rest
Awww, you omitted one of the best parts of Secret Wars!!
After Molecule Man drops an entire mountain range on the heroes and Thor is seemingly disintegrated, the victorious villains return to their base for some R&R. Volcana & Molecule Man are walking through a garden area, enjoying their budding romantic relationship, when Piledriver (of the Wrecking Crew) starts voicing derogatory insults at them, calling Volcana a fat cow and the Molecule Man a nerd. Molecule Man finally loses his temper and Piledriver gleefully challenges him to a fight. Piledriver calls upon the rest of the Wrecking Crew and the Absorbing Man (who were also all in the garden area) to back him up, only to turn around and find they've ALL retreated towards the other side of the room, and are sheepishly making diversionary small-talk, as if they're unaware and not involved with what's going on. (The Absorbing Man even starts discussing the weather with Thunderball.)
In a single instant, the Molecule Man transforms Piledriver's costume from cloth into an ultra-hard metal alloy, totally immobilizing Piledriver. Volcana kicks the totally defenseless Piledriver down, and begins rubbing his face into a muddy puddle with her foot. The Molecule Man, still pissed off, then turns around and asks the rest of the Wrecking Crew and the Absorbing Man if they have a problem with him. All of them sheepishly say that no, he's alright by them. Molecule Man then corrects them, telling them to address him as 'Sir'. And the Absorbing Man, looking very uncomfortable, replies, "No Sir, Mr. Molecule Man, Sir!!".
Satisfied, the Molecule Man & Volcana depart, and the rest of the Wrecking Crew and the Absorbing Man then spring into action, trying to free Piledriver from his costume before he asphyxiates to death. (Piledriver's now metal alloy costume is so hard, he can't even move his diaphragm to breathe). With some difficulty, they finally extricate Piledriver. Afterwards, they incredulously ask him if he's crazy, trying to pick a fight with a guy whose power can effortlessly rip an entire mountain range up into the sky and then throw it.
The sheer stupidity of Piledriver provoking one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe and then rightfully getting put in his place; plus a bunch of super strong, nasty super villains, uncharacteristically acting totally scared & cowed, made for an extremely satisfying and memorable moment, one of my favorites!!
😂😂😂 No Sir, Mr. Molecule Man, Sir!!
Mike Zeck was an amazing artist.
Secret Wars was Mike Zeck at his peak.
Just wanna give your channel some much deserved Scooby snacks. I was a big comic book fan as in my younger years and then got out of it. With all the MCU movies, esp Civil War recently, I'm being drawn back to old memories & stuff I've missed out on. Therefore, much kudos to you for giving people like me a synopsis of certain "life events" in the comic book realm. I've been watching a shit load of your videos over the past week remembering stuff & updating my knowledge about the ever-changing Marvel Universe. I thoroughly appreciate it!
My god this would make a good game
+Hengamer101 and a good movie which most likely will never happend
marlon clark Probably would never happen since Sony owns Spiderman Fox owns X-men and Fantastic Four and Disney owns the rest of Marvel. Well in terms of movie rights
Hengamer101 unless all three studios can cooperate and work something out then it could happend very unlikely though considering the feud thats going on between fox and disney
+Hen The G spideys in the mcu, they can easily add ff4 into phase 4,and let fox keep xmen. beyoder for phase 6. phase 4 would be kang the conquar, phase 5 galactus.
Artimiss Barker There's this new thing call time, consider it when you comment.
Great story with one of the most iconic costumes in the history of comics!!!!! Black Spiderman costume!!!! It's so simple yet amazing and beautiful! Thanks Marvel
WOW man! So much work in there on your part. I really enjoyed this!
Black Suit Spider-man! The GOAT!
What kills me is, I owned this series and a coworker stole it from me along with a bunch of other comics, back in 90 or 91. He took them home over the weekend, Monday I came in looking for him and his coworker said that Friday was his last day. He moved. I checked the local comic shop and he had sold a bunch there and, of course, I didn't have the money to buy them back.
His name is Nick Signorelli (not sure if that's spelled right) and it was in Bonita Springs, Florida. Never trust anyone.
🗣 I remember collecting this *title* from 1986 onwards in my early years in *Eire* !
Great broadcast with full of memories!
All the best from Tottenham, London,UK!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🔥🔥
This Secret Wars is much better than 2015's Secret Wars. And i you don't agree that's your opinion and besides this story makes more sense than the new one.
Omega4491 totally agree!! Best and only secret wars
Omega4491
Neither of them make much sense...
X
I like the new one more. But this ones awesome as well.
I read this as a child, it came in 5 parts and this took me back.
It was like I read it all over again. So damn good! Excellent job!
I was 16 when this series came out and loved it!
+Rick W 14 here and still have all 12!!
DjcHuCkNiCe1 Wow! good job, all mine are in the wind, but thank god for youtube channels like this.
+Rick W yeah, I would say I'm a hoarder of sorts...back in our day our parents impressed upon us how things would be worth something in the future, comics, baseball cards and the like. I'd probably surprise you with the things I've held onto..lol!!
Rick W happy 50th and congratulations
Rick W łb
Thank you, I remember this from when I was twelve and your narration was great.
I just found your channel and i am really glad i did. Thank you very much for doing the complete story series like this one. Please keep doing them.
This is how Spider-man really got the symbiote that Venom movie made me mad!!
Yeah, Sony made Generic Space Monster...not Venom.
Venom being an alien originated from Spider-Man TAS
Why are you mad spiderman is not conon to the venom movie
@@toddtaylor6506 No, the Venom character in the Venom movie is comic book Venom. Personality and all. The only thing different is the Spider-Man part of his origins and Eddies motivation and personality is different too. But the Venom character is the same.
I been a comic book fan since I was three. And one of my first comics came with a iron man and spider women toys. It was the issue where wasp died and wolverine cut absorbing man arm clean off. As a little kid that moment was cool.
Great video, thank you! I never read Marvel superhero comics. When I became interested in comics it was the early 90s and I read Vertigo and Image titles. I didnt get really interested in Marvel heroes until I rewatched X Men Animated Series in my 20s.
This is a great way to get reacquainted with a groundbreaking storyline from Mavel.
"Its the size of Chicago"... meanwhile Iron man:
"Why this is larger than the Pentagon!"
Yeah no kidding
he was probably drunk
is one of my all time favorite comics thanks for bring it back
Wow, great job man. One of the better videos you have done.
Very amusing. I love the light tone of these old comics. Im old :-) so i know the books from back in the day, but never read them. Thank you.
It would make for the greatest marvel movie ever, and it would not be crowded! Look at the armies of heroes and villains in endgame. It could be a 2 parter.. It would be dope no matter how you look at it, and true to the original stories such as how spider-man got his black suit, which is how venom originated. I'd watch it! Video game would be nice also with so many characters that can be used. 1 problem tho- captain marvel originally black. "'Nough Said."
Hey man really appreciate you doing these videos especially being a new comic book collector and not being able to have these books yet now I can at least understand what the secret Wars are thank you again
Done really well, I tip my hat to you comicisland.
This was my favorite 12 issue series.when it came out I was 13 years old.still read it from time to time
This version of Secret Wars, back in the 80s , covering I think I remember, 12 comic books, is THE BEST version of the Secret War; it was the original and it has the best writing. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about the number of comics, but I remember getting and dare not miss, a single issue!
Yes.
It was 12 issues & I collected EVERY SINGLE issue...
Best Read Ever...
Straight & Linear....
...not Head Scratching and Confusing like Crisis of Infinite Earth's .
🤔🤔🤔🤫🤫🤭🤭
Still fresh. I read this and secret wars II back in high school. And it's still great
Thanks for your effort! I love this video. Your guys' channel is awesome
Darwin Aguilero you are awesome =)
That means a lot coming from you ComicIsland
Darwin Aguilero you are AWESOME love your profile pic
Birth of black suit
SPIDER-MAN ROCKS
Now, your voice is beautiful, I adore it... the story telling is impeccable. I really do look forward to sitting on UA-cam whilst I play a game or am doing something with you speaking to me ...however the background music is horrible. I wouldn't want to hear something cliche like something from the UA-cam playlists of the greatest battles but the background audio in your videos could be so much better
Alexander Brown Thank you very much for your efforts here, I loved this completely.
Well done!! I was 15 when this came out. I still have all twelve originals...Awesome comic series summary!
Ha! Excellent i was just wondering how many books...
A compliment for the time you spend at this
thanks for the vid summary. I love it! It left me hanging with spider's black custom and what will happen to ben by himself
+Quang B hahaha, nm, i didn't realized that's how venom came to be. I kept getting the alien from outer space stories from the cartoon and movie so didn't realize secret war was the original story
WoW, I stopped reading the comics right at the start of Secret Wars. Im gonna take my timee with this.
I still have my Secret Wars comics I collected when I was 10. They were my favorite. With cgi this can finally be a movie.
You guys from comicisland are awesome, thanks for doing this, good job and keep it up!!!
I love that you were playing Ludacris when doom was owning the villains
I want to see this become a movie.
Phase 5 or 6 anyone...???
@@domineeksanford8043 maby 4? No wait. 4 will not be that
Your time has come my friend
😹😹🔥
Amazing
Secret Wars I is one story series worth owning.
I think I have read this about 10 times now - and I still enjoy every issue.
Amazing storyline chock full of action and emotions.
thank you so much comicisland.
Great summary. I read the original comics when they appeared, so this was a trip down memory lane. The appraisal at the end was on point too.
Thanks for this. It was awesome.
The writing in comics is hilarious.
I wish we had gotten an animated or live-action version of the original Secret Wars. I picked this up when I was a kid. I loved how they kept readers wondering how Spidey got the black suit until issue #8 revealed it. Pretty damn cool! Big fan of Mike Zeck's work too. I hope I can meet him at a con someday.
Wish granted😂
I have been waiting for this video, this is awesome
Learned how to read to these books
do a ghost rider origins story.don't forget to mention for the hulk fanboys that if the hulk ever kills an innocent, ghost rider is the only one that can beat the shit out of hulk.this beast is underrated as f*#%.
+Gildardo Villarruel no he isn't, ghost rider can match the hulk.
Turnt Alien yessuh massah colonel, right away.
Stop using caps lock Hulk fanboys ;-; Hulk can't do shit to Ghost Rider....
I remember when these came out when I was in middle school…it was awesome
I remember watching the animated Spider Man episodes with this story. Imagine if they made an adaptation for the MCU.
BOY DO I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU
Well this aged like wine
god damn it
I never read these comics but now i really want to collect them now they seem so awesome.
Trust me, they are. I read my Secret Wars & Secret Wars II sets once every few years or so. You won't be sorry..
Great videos!! Don't stop making these very long videos. Keep up the great work!!
8:35 legit thought I had another tab open. Is that ludicrous song Dr Dooms theme song or something? “Get Back! You don Know me like that!” Personifies Victor fairly well.
This was the first series I collected Icant beleive im still a big fan. one of the best runs OG
Damn straight. Don knows what's up.
I was six when this came out I loved this comic I hope to see it on the big screen one day
Yay and yet another great vid guys keep it up
I enjoyed this. I've always tried to get this series, but to a no avail. That's for posting
The usual final words from an advasary of the Hulk ....."But wait, no one can destroy the alloy unlikelyum, its impossible!!!" hehe
Holly cow that was a long series! Great job tell the hole thing!
i would love to see a movie about this, but i'm affraid they would call it a hunger games ripoff.....
Well.... Hunger Games is already a rip off of Battle Royale...so yeah.
i mean it would be unfair if people would compare it, but secret wars is not so well known among people nowadays, so they would call it a rip-off, or an imitation of hunger games with superheroes in it, i would love to see a film like this, but preferrably in the old style of marvel, they should make a vintage marvel movie....
batman wonder woman trilogy audible
Sharkwhisperer Technically Secret Wars was the original Hunger Games.
absolutely, but in the majority of people only k now the hunger games and have not heard about secret wars....
Love it viewed it at least 3 times in last week. Great content. Quality channel. Respect.
Day 1 after secret wars was officially revealed at comicon. View count: 904,000.
This was an impressive story to bring together the biggest heroes from Marvel. Thanks for covering it and thanks to Marvel for it.
This comic should be a movie.
I doubt we will see a movie like this till after fantastic 4 and the x-men. Plus this how venom comes into play instead of Sony's version.
Anthony. j. rogoth and he can't have iron man or Steve rogers
14yr old me loved this story when it first came out and is still a good read.
Love to see a movie of this
Only if its panel for panel, word for word.
Bud definitely not happening. Maybe the X-Men, F4 and Spider-man.
@@prisonmike3605
Oh I know. I've been upset about this for decades. All comics are technically story boards. Boards that have stood up till now. Hollywood is Fucked
Bud could’ve been a massive success but they took a different route. But I’m sure before they didn’t think they were going to have rights of the X-men and F4 not too long ago.
Prison Mike
It could happen. Marvel is making F4 and X-Men movies. I could see Secret Wars for Phase 5.
My favorite Marvel Storyline...before Gauntlet..infinity Wars!!!
The Secret Wars that was actual good.mm a classic. Can't really say that bout this new one.
Good.mm wnat?
thanks Comic Island!! this was great work!! Big Up's man
And the award to worst costume of a main avenger goes to ...... THE WAAAAASSSP!!!!
8.36 in I'm dieing when the music kicks in for Doom.
"he could easily turn them all to dust..." took Thanos all 6 stones...
Bings me back, I was 10 , and I couldn't wait for the next edition every month
I still have one issue of the secret wars from 1984!
A guy at the local comic shop shop sold me the whole set for $20 about 15 years ago. #8 by itself was worth that much at the time. It's gone up since then. Before I got those from him, I had about 5 of the issues & they were in decent shape. The set he sold me is in immaculate shape.
