Ka’kwet’s storyline was the hardest to watch on the show but I applaud the inclusion. It surprised me to know how many viewers weren’t aware of the residential school. Also, the parallels of ka’kwet being taken from her parents and the thousands of children at the border being taken from their parents. I don’t know if I was reading too much into it but this show had so much to say and I hate that they cancelled it.
Im pretty sure Canada still has some running. They were spreading awareness saying that indigenous kids are still being taken from their families and how theirs a law allowing it to be happened.
My grandmother was mi'kmaq and sent to the same residential school ka'kwe't's character was sent too. This would have been Shubenacadie Residential school, the only school for most of the maritimes. She was also from Prince Edward Island. It truly breaks my heart to know they beat, molested, & forced her language and culture away. My mom was apart of the 60s scoop too. I am the first generation to not be stolen and so i've been reclaiming my culture and language. My community is still healing, but even though we've had intergenerational traumas passed down, we also carry all our ancestors love too.
Honestly I feel ka’kwet’s story needed to be this way. It’s heartbreaking but it’s accurate. This happened to so many families and cost a lot of lives. If the show decided to go against history and give ka’kwet a happy ending it would go against the facts of the time and do all of those people, those innocent children a disservice. So many people don’t realise just how cruel these schools were so it’s important that it’s shown. Irl this likely would have been the same ending for most of the families ripped apart by this, they never would have seen their loved ones again, just like ka’kwet
I think the scene of Ka'quet's mom trying to communicate with Marilla is one of the most beautiful in the entire series, "Where is my Baby?" how many mothers have asked themselves the same question? residential schools are a disgrace that The Church and The Canadian government will always have to deal with. But then how many would have tried to help them as Anne did? How many people have instead given themselves over to the banality of evil? I think the value of this series was precisely that it wanted to address issues that while distant are current, many injustices continue to happen in the world.
Gilbert was going to all of Anne's favorite places - the shack in the woods, the cliff - to remember how he felt about her. It was extremely romantic. Can't wait to see your reactions to the last episode!
i love how matthew always stands for whats right despite how dangerous it was to stand up to those men yet another thing to love about him. i do agree it is hard to ignore what kakwet and her parent are going through rn though
The thing about this show is I like that they choose to highlight some of the treatment of marginalised people especially if you do research how native children were treated horrifically it is crazy that even though I am a Brit i did history that included the America’s as a continent a lot of history is whitewashed and not taught and that a show made new research this more as for Anne and Gilbert right now i agree it’s difficult to focus on it cause of this storyline
You guys should watch 1923 - its a Yellowstone prequel, and it will only have 2 seasons. You would love it. It tackles the issues of Native American girls being kidnapped, held prisoner, and tortured but in a very honest and unfiltered way. There is also a lot of romance, action, and adventure.
I give the show credit for Ka’kwet’s storyline, its a reminder of how dangerous racism is. Breaks my heart seeing what those monsters did to that happy little girl. Also, im excited that we will get to see the actress in netflix soon for the avatar live action.
It's sad that there supposed to be season 4, but netflix and CBC cancelled this due to the feud/ending of agreements between them. The creators worked hard to save the show but it ended tragically. The creators only knew this after the airing of the last episode :(
I think it's important to remember this is Anne's show and everything else that happens and all the other characters are just there to show what is happening in the world around Anne and how it impacts her and helps her learn and grow and how she in turn affects a positive change on the world around her, even in some small way. It would be a cheap move on the show's part to give Ka'kwet a happy ending when so many native American children did not have one. Her story shines a light on the situation but it would be unrealistic to have Anne and Matthew storm in and save her and the other kids and shut down the residential schools because that's just not what happened. But yeah, as hard as it is, I think to enjoy the show you really have to remember it's about Anne and her story and not expect resolution and happy endings for all the other side characters because it's not about them.
you're right that it would be unrealistic, but if Anne With An E is renewed for a 4th season one day, I think they might have that happen (Anne finding some clever way to save the indigenous kids) just cuz it's such a sad ending for Anne's friend
so i am peruvian (we are one of the countries from latam with most indigenous people), so tbh i am quite surprised of people not being that aware of how it was before, in our case, it was from spanish people, it's so sad it happened buy i like at least they show a part of how it really was in this show. Specially cause some people still say it was in order to "help us"
This episode just gave me so much anxiety!! With Ka’kwet’s storyline and also Anne and Gilbert’s story line and how Anne’s letter just kept getting moved around until Gilbert stepped on it and it got destroyed! I love Anne with an E and all the serious topics they touch on. It’s a very interesting and entertaining show. Can’t wait for the finale episode! So sad it’s almost done. They definitely should have been renewed for a season 4 😢!
The truth is it wasn't a happy ending for many indigenous families who suffered residential schools. I'm pretty sure the producer of the show said that even if they had not been canceled, she likely would not have given Ka'kwet a super happy ending in an effort to be more historically accurate.
It's the only storyline so far which did actually deal with the social inequities of the era realistically. Everyone likes a feel good story but it's a little daft to try to present racism, sexism, homophobia and such as things that can be conquered with a rousing two minute speech. If only it could, there wouldn't be any. We'd be living in a utopia.
The story of residential schools for native americans in both Canada and the US is a really important but often overlooked one. It was a really thing, often funded and run by the government. These kinds of places existed up until the 1950's and countless(suspected tens of thousands) native american children actually died from terrible abuse and neglect. This is something that just recently began to be investigated formally a few years ago when a mass grave(over children's 700 graves) was found in Canada. It had belonged to one of these schools from the 1950's.
I have loved watching you guys react to this show!! Still so upset that the show got cancelled. I loved that they showed the darker themes because the shit happening in those times were extreme and it was good at reflecting to the shit happening today that are subtle now. Ka’kwet’s storyline was upsetting but an eye opener and I bet they would have explored more world problems especially having such a great main character who is so curious of the world and has a strong sense of justice. I'll forever miss seeing Anne and hate how we do not get to see her grow up but the show will forever grow up with me and I cant wait to show this to my kids. The light hearted stuff was a huge bonus tho I am sucker for cute shit. Anne and Gilbert and The Cuthbert's were just *chefs kiss* 😭😭
You guys should watch the 1985 movie for comparison 😊. Very different because it doesn't tackle a lot of the issues you see in Anne with an E. But it's closer to the source material. Anne with an e definitely had to rush some relationships as well. They take longer to come to fruition in the films.
Unfortunately, even if the Residential School kids got home after escaping, they were taken back. And there was very little their parents could actually do about it. The government could take the parents' lives. They could also arrest them and do other terrible things to the parent(s). And the fact that the Church abused so many children is disgusting. Knowing that this happened in my country is one thing I HATE. It's just sickening to think about. I'm glad the Residential School days are over.
What our ancestors did to the native Americans is absolutely horrid and unforgivable. The native Americans deserve reparations. They also currently live in horrible conditions on reservations that our government made them live on. Makes me sick.
a lot of people may not know, but children went through Kakwet's life story (and the violence of residential schools) until the 70s. It's heartbreaking, but most children did not survive the terrible experience. so seeing that storyline as a native american woman was hard but also necessary.
it makes me so upset that the government js made it legal to kidnap children from their parents &put them into schools to abuses them &k!ll them. ka'kwet is such a realistic storyline &it makes me so heartbroken to learn more &see/hear abt the residential schools.
In a similar vein to Ka’kwet’s story is the Australian government-based abduction of Aboriginal children. I recommend the 2002 Rabbit-Proof Fence film; it’s based on a true story and it’s both riveting and heartbreaking.
My friend who is Native American told me that her grandma was forced into a school similar to the one Ka'kwet is in. She was beaten if she used the Native language and was forced to be more like a white child and lose her culture. I didn't know anything about these schools either and it's a piece of history that should definitely be taught in schools. It feels like it's a part of history that's been covered up. I love this show so much for showing this.
Lmao bash and ms. Stacy’s I finished storyline, but I think we can all see where it leads and I’m actually still somewhat satisfied despite them not getting more screentime, they’re few cute scenes were good enough for me bc it shows something could be there but I’m also happy they decided not to rush it, it’s more realistic
No joke, I think they should be REQUIRED to let these shows have at least 5 or 6 episodes to wrap up storylines especially if they have several seasons. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Fans are left hanging after literal YEARS of investment in these shows. It should be illegal. Seriously.
Yea I’m wishing Ka’Kwet ‘a situation was already solved in earlier episodes but it’s hard rooting for a love story when that’s also happening, stressful. But the ending of the show is overall satisfying regardless bc tho they couldn’t extend three more episodes I still love this show and I know many people do having tried petitioning for it. The creators had to have known this was the last season so they tried with what they had and I love that they went the race and equality route in early 1900’s, so refreshing to see
The last shot of Ka’kwet is one of the most haunting I’ve ever seen. While I think it would have been resolved better in the fourth season, I think this might be the more realistic ending of her story. It’s an extremely terrible part of NA history

What's upsetting about Ka'kwet's storyline is the knowledge that this happened to hundreds of natives in reality. That was so sad 💔
thousands, actually
Zuff out of nowhere “ I miss Mary though” ☠️☠️
I think the scene of Ka'quet's mom trying to communicate with Marilla is one of the most beautiful in the entire series, "Where is my Baby?" how many mothers have asked themselves the same question? residential schools are a disgrace that The Church and The Canadian government will always have to deal with. Seeing Ka’kwet’s mom cry while trying to tell Marilla what was going on is so sad. That scene never fails to make me cry! Justice for Ka’kwet ❤️
Bryce's bombastic side eye at Zuff @ 4:27 🤣💀

11:08 not zuff making me laugh like an idiot theres literally nightime in my country and i cant calm down😂😂

BRO FINALLYYY I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR REACTIONS ALL DAY
You guys should watch Wind River it’s a movie that is very eye opening to the fact that treatment of Native people hasn’t changed much.

That’s the saddest episode. Hope you guys like the last one. I’m really excited to watch it! Thank you ♥️
This reaction had me cackling yall were on something for this one😭
zuff: yay ka’kwet is home! I’m glad that storyline is done 😁
me, who finished the show: 🥲
Don't spoil it 😭
@@itscailee they've already finished it
@@laraaraeken I didn't finish it yet 😔 but I'm assuming ka'kwet doesn't have a happy ending

I told you in every episodes. Kakwet story not gonna have an closure. you have to refer back to the history of Indian people in Canada.

Gilbert saying goodbye to Avonlea and childhood I guess.
11:41 that’s not what he gave her. He gave her a small book just wanted to let you know

Fun Fact: Ka'kwet's actress is Katara in the Avatar live action from Netflix. That's something to look forward to although the creators dipped out.

You guys should have watched the other version which is complete!!! Anne of Green Gables (1985) with Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie!
See, beard guy is in form today.
I didn’t see it was cancelled!!! Ugh!
This series not getting another season was a massive let down. There was a huge online petition for season 4, that fell on deaf ears. 😢
These guys care (or pretend to care) way too much about Ka'kwet. So pretentious.
What is pretentious about being emotionally invested in a character?
What if just maybe they just really feel bad for Ka’kwet and her family😱😱😱😱
What??
Omg shut up. 🙄🙄 quit seeing the negative in the good
Way to tell on yourself that you're heartless
you guys were AWAKE this episode🤣
