    Wow. There are so many things that I took away from this video but my favorite point was when you said that the art that i like or the videos that I watch may not necessarily be the art that I want to create. That is huge. It sounds simple but the lightbulb didn't come on for me until very recently. I was trying to create someone else's art and beating myself up because it didn't work for me. I could never understand why!!!! Thank you so much for creating this series. You are such an inspiration.

    • @stellarjstudios
      @stellarjstudios  5 років тому

      YES!!! This was huge for me too. Finding out who I am then allowing myself to recreate that in my art was huge. In Ep 3 - Take Stock, I show you some of my 'other artists' work. It just feels so staged to me when I look back at it.

    This has my interest. I MAKE journals I sell and share but I don't actually journal!! I tell people my therapy is in creating them while someone else's therapy is in using them.

    Ooooo did this ever hit home! I see these beautifully coordinated completely matchy-matchy journals being made like they just fell outta bed looking that way! Lol can’t wait for the next installment!

    Loved you saying that the art we like and the art we do, aren't necessarily the same-----
    This is a freeing up exercise-----
    Am really looking forward to this!!
    Thank you!

    Wow! You have no idea how much I needed this video as I struggle to play and experiment and find my own personal style. Its a process and it takes place in its own time...not mine. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos. BTW I also learn and grow from all the wonderful community that makes comments ❤️

      Hello Christina, thank you! I am so happy you gained some inspirations and knowledge. Remember, the more you play...the more confident and free you will become.

    When I go to thrift stores, I always check the office supply/stationery section. I've found all kinds of interesting papers, or pads of paper that people have only used a few pages of -- even art paper!!

    • @hoopofspiders6183
      @hoopofspiders6183 5 років тому

      Awesome! The book section in thrift stores can have cool stuff too. :)

      @@hoopofspiders6183 Oh yes!! Always there too. My favorites are large floppy paperbacks, dictionaries and thesaures' (thesauri?), old house or mechanic manuals with cool photos or illustrations, and more! Blank journals, tons!

    • @hoopofspiders6183
      @hoopofspiders6183 5 років тому +2

      @@SoozWeissbergsartspace Yeah, I've found pretty blank journals too. I love vintage photography books, old nature books, vintage interior decorating books for the photos.

      @SoozWeissbergsartspace 5 років тому +2

      @@hoopofspiders6183 Oh yes! And you might think this is a little weird, but I picked up a really old cookbook with clippings and stuff in it! Same with a garden book at another time -- well-loved and well-used with bookmarks, paper clips, and clippings inside! :o Is that weird?

    • @N3k0N3k0N3k0
      @N3k0N3k0N3k0 5 років тому

      @@SoozWeissbergsartspace Not weird at all...that's great ephemera! I would love to find someone's old scrapbook or photo album at a thrift store, although that does seem a bit sad that no one in the person's family cared to save it.

    I really appreciate this video...I’m an established artist and my work is really tight. My goal was to loosen up and play. I’m befuddled by some of the other videos because they make assumptions. Thank you so much for starting this series. I look forward to the journey.

    Yes!!! This is very inspiring!!! I have already gotten comfortable with, and developed a love for, using “different” papers for my art and journaling. However, you’ve shown and mentioned several that I haven’t tried. This is so exciting - I’m off to do some paper gathering right now! Can’t wait for next video!!!😃❤️🔆

    Oh Gina this lesson really hit home with me. I have been going about paper selection all wrong. I would select paper I love but then I wouldn't touch it because I didn't want to ruin it. So I was stuck in this too afraid zone and never got any art journaling done. Thank u so much for this enlightenment. I am so excited now I just want to dance. LOL

      I had that issue too, til I tried using a cheap composition notebook and let it be my whatever/experiment journal and I played and wrote and tested stuff out in that thing, and by the end of it I a) immediately started another I liked doing the first one so much and b) had a direction I was going in/knew what I liked and wanted to do more of. I think this series is gonna be fun and can't wait to see what I get out of it.
