I have the LINE 6 - POD X3 PRO RACKMOUNT UNIT, not only are these gems guitar tone machines but with the last firmware released installed, they're a complete recording studio in one unit. The amount of gear that's inside is downright amazing: Bass amps, Studio console boards, Synths, Mic sims. It's such a great product Line 6/Yamaha, will never produce another product like it! No other unit they have released has even come close to living up to the POD X3 PRO, no other product they've made can do what the POD X3 PRO can. Check it out.
Also use mine with both my Jazzmasters, I bought it new when it came out and even tho I have tube amps, I still love tracking demos with the tones I've sculpted on my X3. I've had friends ask what I used for tones, and when I told them, they never believe me. One of them tried to replicate my setup but got a HD500X since it was newer and figured it would sound better. Maybe I'm biased, or slow but I couldnt get a distortion tone I really liked on the HD500X. The X3 is where its at as far as old Line 6 POD tech imo.
Kinda want to get that or the pro just as a cool travel modeler to run through my Vypyr. If Vildhjarta can run a bean in 2020, then I have faith that I can get some good tones out of this
Amazing! The exact same reasons I bought one 2 weeks ago. Already played one gig with it, using it for vocals+guitar. And recording direct but using IR cab plugins in your DAW is killer 🤘
I still use mine, but have to forego of all its possibilities to connect to a computer. This thing has no modern drivers, so it can't be used at all using the multi-track output via USB which it is capable of. I'm a bit worried that I'll lose my presets one day, but as a whole it has proven to be very reliable and sturdy throughout the years. And in front of a tube amp, nobody ever complained about the sound it makes. I had to change the switches once, which was not cheap, but I rather repair stuff than throw it away.
@@ZombieThirteen No. I brought it to the local music store and they send to a service center. Could have been a quick fix, in hindsight... But my attempts of fixing my Midi keyboard keys not registering ended up disabling more of the keys, so I felt more comfortable to pay somebody to do it reliably. @@dedespedida4515 He didn't say that it's good for being so old in such a dismissive way. His point was that with the amount of products that have been released over the course of the last ten years, it holds up very well against those newer offerings. He's making a relative statement, as time and age are often quite relative. If anything, his video shows a very good understanding of the technology and making the best use of older units that can still match the benefits of more recent modelling systems that cost an arm and a leg by contrast.
Great video! Personally, I think the HD500X is the ideal compromise as it is also a bit of a legacy item now from the Line 6 catalogue, thus, cheaper, but with far more flexibility in altering the signal chain. Basically, one has more flexibility with the effects blocks on the HD500X while in the X3, certain options are fixed in their spot on the signal chain, and one can't do things like putting multiple boost effects back to back, or having more EQ options in the post-AMP side of the chain.
Thank you! The POD software has been slow in terms of user friendliness, but agreed! I picked up another HD500X for less than $200 to use until Line 6 releases something between the HX Stomp and HX Stomp XL or I pick up a Headrush GigBoard.
@@ZombieThirteen Yeah, to be honest, I'd be fine even with the X3, as one can basically edit the entire chain on the unit and doesn't need to be dependent on the computer or POD/Gearbox software. My only issue with the X3 against the HD500X is that the latter allows more flexibility while the X3's effects blocks seem very fixed, still excellent though for generating any kind of brutal or high gain tone. One could, with the proper set up, record albums using this and without declaring anything, people wouldn't know if it was a genuine amp or some newer modelling gear that costs north of a thousand dollars to acquire. But yeah, the stuff you mention is great as well. For the deal hunter, I'd wait a few years for the next line up of hardware to emerge and then pick some of these up for cheap.
Yeah idk... I thought the high gain tone at 1:28 is every bit as awful as I remember modeled high gain from back then to be. :/ Its obnoxious, fizzy, lacks tightness and definition. Nothing to get excited about. Can you get decent tones out of an old unit like the X3? I guess to some degree. If space and weight were a serious issue: it sure is small and lightweight while stil having loads of footswitches, but personally I’d rather go with an HD500 or even skip some footswitches and go for something small like the HX Stomp. But for home use I can only see the low price as an advantage. Soundwise I’m glad modelling has progressed as much as it has and I won’t be looking back!
Would recommend checking out the Soulhenge video with the Pod X3 Pro. Good tones are definitely possible. And this thing is a beast with a Mooer Radar to load IRs to.
