Sure you can. In fact I already have created this sound for the HD500. You can download it from my website. I even have a video that demos the sound. Thank you
@SoundOfSorrowSOS Yes, the Line6 Modern High Gian model does come with the X3. The X3 is maxed out with all of the amp models that Line6 had up to that point.
Wow. This is the first video of yours I ever watched, not long after you released it. I bought an X3L because of this video! Now I have an HD500, also because of your videos. Soon, I'll probably have a Helix because of your videos! Keep it up, Glenn!
Hey Awesome job !!! I just purchased one of these pedals , after using my Korg Ax 1500 G which has done the trick for me for the past 15 years or so !!! Thanks for taking the time to give people a Demo on setting this bad boy up !!!! Thanks again DEv
I'll try this thanks. I have had this for ages. Didn't play for a long time but still dont know enough about what all the settings do. Constantly just use presets. Really not making the most of it's capabilites and exploring what is could do because I don't understand it fully🙁
I did! I just discovered something AMAZING just a few hours ago. I set up your Metallica tone but used just another Line6 Modern High Gain on both tones, and set the distortion to about 70%, and then, in Revalver I set up a slight channel delay of a few ms. It sounds SO much fuller! I am going to post a video of it. I am so proud lmao. Your Metallica tone was a really good starting point, and that eq trick does get rid of a lot of the fizz.
ah damn dude you are the master of POD X3. any time I feel like I can't get a good tone out of it, your videos prove me wrong and encourage me to keep tweaking!
I've been considering a new Spider IV HD150 head (to replace my aged Peavey Supreme 160 head - don't laugh..), or a POD X3-Live (through the Peavey clean channel). You have pretty much sold me on the POD. Thanks for all your effort with these videos. They are extremely informative, and I love that you immediately incorporate some playing to accentuate your points. Extremely well done! Thanks for all your help!
Thank you Chris, well no I did this video to show people how to get this sound by using the controls themselves. But there are many similar to this in my patches. Thanks again Chris.
Well...it's sounds absolutely incredible. You have an excellent ear for tone. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that it was Metallica themselves. Keep 'em coming chief...
Glen there is no doubt that you have a vast experience with modern musical electronics, as well as amps and guitars. I ve been reading your efforts for a number of years, albeit that I do not subscribe, I do enjoy what you offer the many who do. Thanks for allowing the experience of your years, to educate as well as familiarize those who do not or are not aware of the vast amount of available enhancements as well as the skill that you ve earned for yourself. have a good day.
They are stored in those pedals on the bottom of the device, each pedal contains a fully customizable patch and is activated upon being pressed down, hope it helped :)
@Tylermartin7771 You would have to hook your speakers up to the POD. When you hook your X3 to your computer using USB then the X3 essentially becomes your sound card. So the audio goes into your computer from the X3 USB and travels back through USB back into the POD. Got it??
Im planning on getting an XT live but figured id check this video out. I learned something from this that would apply to any amp modeling, regardless of the interface that i'd never realized, and that is to cut the highs all the way back on fizzy sounding high gain amps, and then to add it back in with eq. Good trick.
@extremevideopro hm i tried and played around with this idea. but i was not able to get rid of the fizz without making it sound dark :| when you boost very narrow in the 5k - 10k area, you can actually find the ugly fizz frequencies and cut them all out. if you cut too much it will become unnatural sounding (even more ahaha) and dark too but cutting like 1.5 - 2 db makes the sound get less fizz and still have presence.
@axeslinger37 That means that his rig "cuts" through more than yours does. That really does come down to the type of distortion and also EQ settings ans speakers too!!. To answer your question I think the 500 is better. Have you ever thought of using your amps distortion and going with a few analog pedals??
Hi Glenn: I like the way you show the connection of the POD to the audio interface. The sound is natural without any guitar amp influence. Other thing I like in the video is you are with your dog. Dogs are angels between us. Thnak you.
Thanks. Yeah that dog was Heidi. I had her for 16 years. I had to put her down about 4 years ago. That was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. getting a new Border Collie pup next month though, finally after 4 years. Her name is Frances and she is now 5 weeks old.
let me ell you thnk you from the botom of my heart really i was in need of that patch and you give it to me thanks again and keep rocking. everybody who look for a good patchs just go to this site you found it
Been looking for the right box to buy for Pro Tools recording... You've helped me make up my mind. Thanks! Your knowledge and playing rocks! Metallica was the first concert I ever went over 18 years ago.
@extremevideopro hace poco ya me habia decepcionado de mi podx3 live pero al parecer era mi amplificador (FEnder frontman15g) .Thanks Glen Delaune . I waiting more videos with PODX3Live.
ok thanks glenn, I was trying to modify the threshold and the gain level on the compressor but I think it is not enough, well I think I'll follow your advices instead. Karl.
Good job. I just have setted it up and the tone is perfect! I spent my last 30 minutes just playing metallica riffs and grooves. Keep up w/ the good work! Cheers
Im still using the pod 2.0, and I love it, I can run it straight into my powered monitors in stereo for best results, or run it into my dime half stack, or run it through my fender Mustang 5 and it sound great through all. for my needs jamming at home there is nothing better. Im really liking the pod x3 live.
Just put the Metallica, Satriani and Vai patches in my Line 6 Pod X3 that I just got and I have an HD500 on the way as well. Probably gonna have to get a second set of LogiTech speakers so I can use them both split via MXR Black Label Chorus pedal with a Crybaby from Hell and Wylde Phase before the chorus, and the 'dry' signal from the chorus sent to the X3. I have two drives [an OCD clone and a Wylde OD] and MXR Noise Clamp for in front of the HD500 [to save DSP power whenever possible] and then a 15 band 2 channel rack EQ in the loop of both or maybe just the HD500 after the amp/cab but before the 'post' fx, since the EQ on the X3 is pretty good. So to recap: Gtr -> Crybaby from Hell -> Wylde Phase -> wet output -> HD500 -> 15 band EQ ch 1 -> HD500 return -> LogiTech speakers w/ sub Dry output -> X3 [possibly: 15 band EQ ch 2] -> X3 return -> 2nd set of LogiTech Speakers w/ sub Quite a lengthy set up, but I bet it'll sound great. Haven't decided how the speakers will be set up though. I'm thinking either the HD500 speakers will be A and D and X3 speakers will be B and C, or I'll mix them so that HD500 is speakers A and C and X3 is speakers B and D.
Hi Glenn, mine was pan left n right fully...guess i have n9 choice but to tweak tone through the troublesome way. Good thing is, dual tone still works when both tones combined just that don't get to listen to tone2 alone. Anyway, thank you so much for your patience and replies. l love your videos and tones too! Great work!!!
Really authentic recreation. I've found that most of the Line 6 tones sound NOTHING like the song they say they represent, which is actually sad and is underselling the capabilities because you can definitely recreate almost any tone you've ever heard.
I assumed it was the cameras sound being set to auto rather than him setting the db manually. When he goes quiet for a brief second the camera ups the db of the input volume to try to "find" some audio, and then when he plays something it takes a split second for it to reduce the volume again. Same as when a camera has its focus set to auto it will take a split second to focus in on stuff.
At the level of music that you are often times playing I can see where this type of set up will offer, once the time and effort is made to pre set the tones and the effects, to offer the listener to a great array of guitar enhancements.
I did, I cut off all those nasty high frequencies where the fizz occured. I also tried an external analog EQ, and still just sounds fizzy. I'll just keep juggling the settings around. I'm looking for a like a heavy but smooth Ayreon tone. He uses Pod as well, but it sounds so amazing.
Wow these demos are awesome! I was thinking about getting an X3 Live to do a shootout with my Boss GT10 and these pushed me over the edge. They also make me wish I had learned to play with a thumb pick when I was starting out LOL!
One of the best Metallica tones I've ever heard ANYONE dial-in. Killer job!
I get chills everyone I hear him play that, which is once or twice a day.
Just dusted off my x3 live and followed this video. You nailed it. Sounds excellent! Thank you!
I just came to this video by chance. Deffo going to key this tone in
Dudeeeeeeee..... that picking technique whit the thumb very incredibly amazing 🤘🤘🤘🤘
the BEST POD X3 videos on UA-cam!!
Petaling you've got out of that pedal is awesome I think the more amazing thing here is your playing Metallica with your thumb!
Ha Thanks Mark.
I just watched this again ! Here's a double thumbs up!
Thank you very much. It's old but still relevant!
Thanks for posting this video 16 years ago.
@SoundOfSorrowSOS Sure go for it. If yo don't like it you can always return before the return period is up.
@SoundOfSorrowSOS Yes very good clean tones on the Fender amps. Some of the best!!
Wow. This is the first video of yours I ever watched, not long after you released it. I bought an X3L because of this video! Now I have an HD500, also because of your videos. Soon, I'll probably have a Helix because of your videos! Keep it up, Glenn!
Got the Helix, had to RMA on day one, never got to play it! I can't wait till I get it back.
Hey Awesome job !!! I just purchased one of these pedals , after using my Korg Ax 1500 G which has done the trick for me for the past 15 years or so !!!
Thanks for taking the time to give people a Demo on setting this bad boy up !!!!
Thanks again
DEv
Thanks Dan
I'll try this thanks. I have had this for ages. Didn't play for a long time but still dont know enough about what all the settings do. Constantly just use presets. Really not making the most of it's capabilites and exploring what is could do because I don't understand it fully🙁
Hey there. No I didn't ever get the chance to do patches for the 300.
Seriously Bub. THANK YOU! Your tone is KILLER, but your eq tips alone are priceless! :-)
Check your input settings. Make sure that tone2 is set for guitar input
Yes that's correct, in those cases where you are going mono into a PA or amp you don't need dual tones and leave the pan straight up center.
ah damn dude you are the master of POD X3. any time I feel like I can't get a good tone out of it, your videos prove me wrong and encourage me to keep tweaking!
Yes I do. It's in my Custom Artists Patches bundle. Thank you Derren. I did a video on it.
This video helps me a lot... I watched it 4 years ago and Ima watch it again and reset my tones haha. Appreciate it!
Thank you Chris, well no I did this video to show people how to get this sound by using the controls themselves. But there are many similar to this in my patches. Thanks again Chris.
That's right. That is how to practice. Start slow and build your way up slowly. That's exactly how I learned to do this.
Well, yes. There are some videos out there that have a really good sound from the XT
Well...it's sounds absolutely incredible. You have an excellent ear for tone. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that it was Metallica themselves. Keep 'em coming chief...
Thanks, this was recorded direct into my computer.
Glen there is no doubt that you have a vast experience with modern musical electronics, as well as amps and guitars. Thanks for allowing the experience of your years, to educate as well as familiarize those who do not or are not aware of the vast amount of available enhancements as well as the skill that you ve earned for yourself. have a good day.
And lots more! Like the XLR-out, Variax connector (if you happen to have one) and more.
They are stored in those pedals on the bottom of the device, each pedal contains a fully customizable patch and is activated upon being pressed down, hope it helped :)
thank you so much, Glenn.

@ThomasDemko That's Metallica "Through The Never". If you like it you should definitely get Metallica's Black Album.
i didn't suspect a multi FX to have so convincing tone...great demo, thank you.
Excellent and very thorough! Thanks for the step-by-step instructions on how to program. I learned alot!
@axeslinger37 That means that his rig "cuts" through more than yours does. That really does come down to the type of distortion and also EQ settings ans speakers too!!. To answer your question I think the 500 is better. Have you ever thought of using your amps distortion and going with a few analog pedals??
hallo. You just made a fan here in Portugal. thank you my friend. these sounds will keep me rockin and having fun. very good
Greeeeat job once again, man! thanks
Hi Glenn: I like the way you show the connection of the POD to the audio interface. The sound is natural without any guitar amp influence. Other thing I like in the video is you are with your dog. Dogs are angels between us. Thnak you.
Fantastic job man. Your video has been good to help me with my new LINE 6 X3 LIVE.
Cheers from Spain
Just picked this piece of awesome machinery up! Thank you for the vids.... really helpful!
Old video but once again yoy have a gift for making good tones out of any rig
Purchased a used X3 live, should have it by the end of the week, cant wait to dial in your settings.
Thanks. Yeah that dog was Heidi. I had her for 16 years. I had to put her down about 4 years ago. That was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. getting a new Border Collie pup next month though, finally after 4 years. Her name is Frances and she is now 5 weeks old.
I loved this video and your other Pod ones. Please do more tones, we appreciate it :)
Yes you can
@axeslinger37 The new HD 400 & 500 have that. It's called Pitch glide. I use it to drop to Eb to do Alice In Chains & Stevie Ray covers.
amazing sound.
The Tone is amazing OMG
Glenn, your the man!!! Thank you.
Absolutely Awesome!
Make sure the Tone2 volume is on in the system settings.
Thanks for the Video. Love the sound on my POD now.
dude your videos are so helpful..i would never be able to get this deep into the settings on my own
Thanks i didnt really look through the manual and i eventually found out on my own
Loved that tone just heavy rockin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow that is accurate!
Wow, I was awe-struck when you panned them left and right :O Awesome man!
followed this almost to the letter, decreased the delay a tad more, and it sounds perfect!
Awsome, can't wait to get mine.
@extremevideopro okay great advice and thank you so much for your time. i will be buying one of these. nick. :)
let me ell you thnk you from the botom of my heart really i was in need of that patch and you give it to me thanks again and keep rocking. everybody who look for a good patchs just go to this site you found it
Sounds great!! I want one
@Tylermartin7771 no unfortunately it wont work. No you don't need any software unless you want to do some recording. Try Reaper.
ok thanks glenn, I was trying to modify the threshold and the gain level on the compressor but I think it is not enough, well I think I'll follow your advices instead.
Karl.
Good job. I just have setted it up and the tone is perfect! I spent my last 30 minutes just playing metallica riffs and grooves. Keep up w/ the good work! Cheers

sweet... thanks for showing how to get that awesome tonality!
Great tone. Thanx for sharing!
amazing Bro ! thanks for sharing this freaking complex set up !
I didn't know where you were going with this at first, but somehow you did it...that is THE Metallica tone!
Excellent work man...excellent indeed.
In my studio I have speakers connected to my computer. When I play live I go right into the PA
AWESOME TONE!
So to recap:
Gtr -> Crybaby from Hell -> Wylde Phase -> wet output -> HD500 -> 15 band EQ ch 1 -> HD500 return -> LogiTech speakers w/ sub
Dry output -> X3 [possibly: 15 band EQ ch 2] -> X3 return -> 2nd set of LogiTech Speakers w/ sub
Quite a lengthy set up, but I bet it'll sound great. Haven't decided how the speakers will be set up though. I'm thinking either the HD500 speakers will be A and D and X3 speakers will be B and C, or I'll mix them so that HD500 is speakers A and C and X3 is speakers B and D.

Sweet, I was skeptical about he sound during creation, but after hearing the final product, I was amazed!
I know its ancient but I love the tones possible so i picked one. Up. On reverb
Exellent sound!
bloody a great sound..thank you Sir.....
At the level of music that you are often times playing I can see where this type of set up will offer, once the time and effort is made to pre set the tones and the effects, to offer the listener to a great array of guitar enhancements.
wow. you completely nailed that. sounds just like old Metallica!
Yes that's correct. Just the POD
Wow these demos are awesome! I was thinking about getting an X3 Live to do a shootout with my Boss GT10 and these pushed me over the edge. They also make me wish I had learned to play with a thumb pick when I was starting out LOL!
@extremevideopro
I followed it fine! It's interesting recreating these tones in such detail!
Yes, It seems to be the issue. They were not overwritten at all. Thank you Glen!!!
NICE SOUND! Really feel the metallica vibe!
Received my X3-live this morning, cant wait to break it out!!!!!
I use balanced TRS 1/4in. male to XLR male cables.
