Hughenden was build in the mid sixties I remember that because at that time my family were living on Merick highway . That was the first community to have a swimming pool- we use to swim there. Mattalon were the builders for that community.
Grew up in Hughenden, and I haven't seen it in YEARS!!! YEEEEAAARRRSSS! I so greatful for this video. I even saw a glimpse of my childhood home. Miss it bad! Still a beautiful, quiet community.
Me: Rush You are absolutely right the Hughenden community need some major major roads repair and also the resident of Hughenden need to take care of the sidewalk green lawnscape area🙏.🙏🙏 Mr: Rush back in the days the Hughenden Community was violent free .. fast forward now I want to know is thing remain the same ???
I grew up on Games ave back in the 70's. I'm amazed at the two storey houses now occupying so many parts of the scheme! I only saw one or two original structures still in place. I recognised all the areas you drove around on though. Especially around the main entrance. I can remember in the middle of the housing scheme, there was a community centre. A multi level building , I'm wondering what happened to that? It was nice to see this video. Thank you!
You are so right. The community center is still there behind a locked gate. We used it back in 2004 for a family reunion, its closer to red hills road entrance. A few original homes exist. One is actually across from Orchard Ave on Relay Road. It amazes me to see upstairs homes added on, the neighbors must have NO light.
Mike oh yes, the heat was intense and I remember it vividly. Whenever it rained, we were granted a reprieve or during December when we got the Christmas breeze! I see some of the houses have a different kind of roof now. Maybe things have improved in those. I remember my father had a company do something to the concrete roof back in the day, but it was still hot. And we had many leaks, pans were set all over to catch the drops when it rained. Ahh the memories of Hughenden!
Rush, thanks for the tour. I actually grew up on Hughenden Ave (not part of the housing scheme). Great memories of the area. Migrated over 30 yrs ago but do go back home once in a while. Just haven't been back to that area in donkey yrs. Thanks for the reminder. Nasty roads for real!!!
Those two storey mansions , I'm wondering if the original home was demolished and they rebuilt over the lot? I remember how the original houses were hot , the heat from the concrete roof and walls were like a battery, retaining the heat all night!! We used to take a hose and spray the roof and walls to help cool it down LOL
Live in Hughenden late 70'. Wonderful community. Need for more activities for the young people. More unity with the elders and the young people. My parents are still in Hughenden.
Hey Courtney. Thanks for commenting. I did a previous video covering parts of Havendale. If I missed Chevy Chase Ave I will cover it the next time I am there... Link here for previous video: ua-cam.com/video/kYdnuhNxDDE/v-deo.html
When will we EVER get roads right in this country?? Property taxes mean nothing apparently - it's ridiculous - the value of your home is directly related to how the community look!! Nice house and dirt tracks for roads don't go together. Geez...when???
Yo discovery boss Rush Raymore - preeciate the big up of Hughenden you seet. Just a suggestion, you might wanna blurr people's home addresses and license plate number yuh zeet, especially since yah call out di street names while dem personal info deh is being displayed cuz a whole heap a car teff a gwaan especially of vehicles weh park on the road in front of houses like mine. Mi nuh wah certain people know seh a yasso mi live u zimmi. Bless n respek!
Homeowners seem to keep up with them property but government not doing there part. The quality of the material on pavement do not look good looks porous drainage system look like it barely there. One other thing edging the grass on side walk and weeding the gutters on road would beautified curve appeal the home owner could contribute a small fee for someone to maintain few home did have trimming done but the lazy ones.
left JA in 84, not been back, went to Calabar High, lived on Chevy Chase ave. Havendale, great memories. Why dont people maintain the outside of their properties? place looks run down.
Those bad roads in thes residential communiturs is the reason why there should be a very hefty price to pay for stealing from the people money...government money that is
My place .....Nigel fix the road Laborite all unno do a come fi vote n dissappear...We have the best community centre in Kingston 20 but we need back our basketball courts and weekend activities for young ppl
Kingston is the envy of other caribbean islands withe its lovely residentals communities but why the city admistraters allow streets to be so rundown. Why not pass legistration for people to cut the gras and sweep the sidewalk in front of teir homes if the municipality dont have the money
Speaking of "envy," ask Rush to do a drive through many of the areas (or so-called communities) south Cross Roads, from East to West, and you'll see what envy is.
Thank you for your videos. Horrible roads that really need fixing. I used to live there years ago and those houses were extremely hot, you could feel the heat coming off the ceiling. I hope they do something about the roads. Anyway, still beautiful 🇯🇲 Jamaica.

Another community in North West St.Andrew in need of significant road repairs. Dr. Nigel Clarke and his councillors have a lot of work to do.

Wow! This is really nice. Don't think I've ever heard of it, but it's beautiful
Hughenden was not built in the 50s. It was built in 1968. My aunt was an original homeowner and we still own the house today.
Same here I'm from Glendale though

@@markc3666 U ain't never lied. As a kid I didn't notice the heat, but going back as an adult it was hell. There's ac in the master bedroom finally.

Stop that nonsense! Do you see other islands rushing to move to Jamaica and Jamaicans live on all the other islands
Who are the political representatives for the area?
The interior roads are AWFUL!!
So di carpet man is the MP
Then the residents needs to do some aggressive lobbying
