    I'm jealous you still have a Fuddruckers. Mine closed down during the pandemic. Last year I drove past the building and it said they were doing a liquidation sale. I decided to go in to see what was actually being liquidated and I found out it was actually all the stuff in the restaurant including supplies, signage, furniture and memorabilia that had been on display there. I was kinda surprised since it had been a few years between the time they closed and the time they did this liquidation. I bought a bowling trophy just so I could say I owned something that had been there.

    Just last Friday, I'd passed by there on my way home from Corpus Christi, and my heart sank when I saw the Jerry's had been converted to a Denny's.

    Jim makes sense. It's proper name was "Judy's Home Style Hamburgers & Fixin's" . Judy's even had chili con carne, apple pies and the like Wendy's fries. I spent my early years in eastern Florida in the early 70s and in addition to McDonalds, there was Crystal's, SteaknShake and the ubiquitous KFC. McDonalds was often called 'Ronald McDonalds' to describe the restaurant not just the clown. When Col Sanders sold KFC to a younger man, Sanders revisited KFC and was disgusted by what the food had become. He said I dont know what that stuff is. When we moved to Maryland we didn't have no White Castle but we had Little Tavern which my mother wouldn't eat at because she said the employees would often spit in the food. Thanks for the memories guys!😃

    The Wendy's/Judy's thing made me remember when I worked at the Papa John's commissary, here in Louisville. There was a smaller chain that opened, called Pizza Magia. And the guy that started Pizza Magia had worked with John Schnatter. Their pizza was just like Pappa John's, and the dough was the same exact recipe. Needless to say, there was a lawsuit and Pizza Magia disappeared. I had actually went to a grand opening of a nearby Pizza Magia and they gave out ink pens. I took my pen to work to use it, and a guy I worked with, got mad. Lol! He asked why I went to their grand opening, and I told him they had free pizza, and there was a wizard and a clown. Pappa John's didn't have a wizard or a clown.

    I worked for the lady that had the first McDonalds franchise in Orange County, CA. It was stated in 1957 and it had a fake airplane in the middle of the restaurant. That place is still busy as hell because it's across the street from the Great Wolf Lodge.
    And Jack in the Crack has those ridiculous tacos that are an abomination, but are so fucking good.

    When I was a kid, I loved Burger Chef. I think they were sold to Hardee's in the early 80's. I really liked Burger Chef broiling the patty instead of frying it on a griddle. I ended up going over to Burger King after Burger Chef was sold.
    Anyone remember Zantigo? Taco Bell bought them out in the mid 80's and it took them forever to put my favorite Zantigo menu item, the Chilito (chili cheese burrito), on their menu.

    I like those shows too Jim. Burger King, Taco Bell, and McDonald's were around when Jim was a kid. I can also understand Jim not eating at a McDonald's until he was a teenager. It took longer for some of those restaurant chains to get to smaller towns in the Southeast. We didn't get a Macdonald's until 1986 I think. I guess it was the same for Louisville, even though it's not necessarily a small town.

    Growing up we got Wendy’s often because my parents loved the salad/taco bar. I still remember the tables having the news paper motif going on.
    They’d usually get the salad bar, and get us kids a cheese burger with fries to split and a small frosty to dip the fries in.
    Then sometimes if they were feeling naughty they’d sneak us a taco.
    My parents are probably why Wendy’s stopped the salad bar nation wide.

    • @randyshopher7146
      @randyshopher7146 Місяць тому

      hought the bar was so you could dress your burgers like you wanted. Then everybody started using it for a salad bar and the restaraunt had to do away with it. We had a Danver's with the bar with the fixin's and folks would pile a salad on the burger wrapper. Burger for a dollar....make 4 dollar salad for free.
