    How do you find out what size wing and engine you need??

    • @blackhawkparamotor
      @blackhawkparamotor  5 років тому +18

      That's a fantastic question and one we get a lot... It's really important to remember that "less is more" in PPG. When I first got into the sport, I wanted the "biggest, best, most expensive motor" because I thought it would be better than the rest. I'm so glad I didn't buy the most expensive one, and we always encourage our customers to get "just what they need" to enjoy the sport to its fullest.
      The engine and wing are based on a few things. It's all about finding the right "power-to-weight" ratio, and some of it has to do with "Pilot personal preference." First is deciding if you want to fly a backpack unit, a Quad, a Trike, or both. This comes down to personal preference, transporting the unit, and also Pilot ability (for example, if someone has bad knees, they may want wheels.) Then we pick a motor... This is determined by your body weight for the most part. The gliders have a weight range, so your weight will also help us determine the glider you may need. Elevation where you live is also a factor in picking a glider. Higher elevation Pilots may need a larger glider. Age is also a factor. We want Pilots to continue flying their entire lives. If someone buys a Foot-Launch unit in their mid 50's and they decide they want to switch to Quad in their 60's, we don't want them to have to purchase a whole new Paramotor again. For our older Pilots, we will often recommend a backpack motor that has enough power to be mounted to a wheeled-platform should they choose to switch later. The last thing is your height. For taller or larger Pilots, we have certain harnesses and accessories to ensure the most comfortable experience possible.
      I hope this information helps you and others who are looking to get into the sport =)
      LET'S MAKE THIS EASY: When you have time, contact our office with your age, weight, height, and elevation where you live. We can put together some customized price quotes that include the best recommended motors for your needs. We're happy to help!

      Oh man... The "politics" in this sport are staggering... I used to run chains of Karate Schools and I thought there was a lot of ego there, and it doesn't even compare to how cutthroat this sport can be. For us, it's all about the flying and we stay away from those who care more about brand than this life-changing experience. The sport would be so much more amazing if other companies or Dealers were more open minded. Never forget - it's ALL about the flying ;)

It was a very "interesting" experience to be politically correct in my choice of words ;) I wish I could get those 2 years of my life back, but I learned a lot about "what not to do" haha!
      There are some characters in this sport. That's for sure. It's not too hard to figure out who they are and stay away. Hope you have a great week Justin and get some flying in! =)

      Totally! You can't please everyone - that's for sure. The feedback is actually a great tool for content creators and businesses like us. For some reason though, in this sport people will go way out of their way to post nasty comments or dislike videos out of spite and brand biases. In a sport that is so life-changing and positive, it surprises a lot of people to see the overwhelming negativity from some. One of the ways we try to stand out is by not participating in things like that. We just want people to enjoy their adventures. Thanks for the comment =)

    • @blackhawkparamotor
      @blackhawkparamotor  7 років тому +2

      Lol! Depending on the unit, they do have plenty of storage capability - especially for those who want to take camping, hunting, or fishing gear with them. The average speed is about 18-25 MPH, however, you can get speed-bar systems or different gliders that can more than double that speed... Faster means you lose some of the passive safety features, so I'd recommend starting out low and slow until you get comfortable in all situations. Give us a call anytime if you have any more questions. We're here to help =)

      Great message Chris! Thanks for taking the time to research the sport. Many people invest before thoroughly researching all the options out there. I ended up buying AND training twice because the first person I called wasn't a good experience at all. I trained on the coast, but lived inland. It's so easy to train where the wind is perfect all day long, but I didn't learn anything! I remember when I first discovered this on UA-cam and started calling around... It was so hard to get a straight or honest answer... Every Manufacturer I called would tell me that "their stuff was the best, and everything else is horrible." One of the reasons why I have a BlackHawk and even work for the company now is the way I was treated and the level of honesty in talking to very down-to-earth people - instead of some of the eccentric "used car salesmen" out there ;) We have had MANY Pilots that are 70+ years old on our Training Field, so you are "young" by comparison! Let's get you some more information and answer any questions you have... Give us a call when you have time. We're always here to help. Below is a link to a video of a 74 year-old Pilot we recently trained. His message is amazing. Hope you enjoy and that this motivates you even more.

We are working really hard to get good information out there that will help all Pilots. Anytime there are Dealers on commission selling high-dollar items, the lines can get blurred. I have been researching paramotoring for the last several months . I know with my limitations I will have to go with a quad or trike. As far as which paramotor is the best you will get 100 different opinions. . But what I have found in as far as dependability most of it comes down to regular maintenance [for any engine] and in a two stroke a good quality mix oil in the proper ratio. Also the proper carb settings , too lean and you will fry the piston. Always do a proper pre-flight check. As far as cost I have friends who will drop 20-30 k on a boat to run back and forth on the lake , so for the enjoyment of flying it's not really that expensive. I really enjoy your video's, keep up the good work.

    • @blackhawkparamotor
      @blackhawkparamotor  6 років тому

      What an EXCELLENT comment Larry! It really shows that you have been doing your research and I encourage everyone to do that. You are absolutely correct... If you take the little extra time to conduct a pre-flight check, use gauges for the early detection of a potential problem, and take good care of the motor, it will last many years of amazing adventures! So glad you are enjoying our videos and a warm welcome to the sport. Regardless of which brand you chose to buy, we're always here to help Pilots enjoy this sport to it's fullest potential. That being said, if you have any questions, we're always here to help =)

    I was visiting my family in PA and saw two people paramotoring near a local outdoor eatery. One week later it's still on my mind. I'll have to explore this.
    There is a ride at Disney in Florida (Universal, maybe?) where you sit in a chair that is suspended in front of a huge projection screen, and you "fly" around the world. It was my favorite ride all week. I thought of that ride when I saw these two people in the sky above me, flying around.

      Thanks for such a fantastic comment! It's a tough Industry. This is the 2nd Manufacturer I've worked for and I'm so glad I'm here instead of where I was. The "honesty issue" or integrity is why I switched Paramotor Manufacturers. It's so important to be honest with people - especially when it comes to selling them an actual "aircraft." I don't know why it's so hard to get honest answers from Dealers and many Manufacturers in this life-changing sport. There is so much ego involved and most of the time Dealers are at each other's throats to sell a Paramotor. The Industry would see much improvement if everyone got along. For us, it's all about the flying. As long as someone is safe and enjoying their Paramotor (regardless of brand), that's all we care about. Feel free to contact our office anytime if you have questions. We're happy to help... and be honest =)

    I am a former 777-300 pilot. However, I had an awful accident and lost both my legs below the knee. I lost all my finances due to hospital bills, and of coarse, my license. I have since participated in free fall and am fully able to walk run etc. I guess what i am asking. I would like a basic wing with simple lift. a motor with limited weight due to prosthetic set up. As someone who is pretty poor now, What would you recommend. And a cheeky question, Has anyone ever donated second hand wings or engines. Ok, i know stupid question. But i am desperate to fly again. I simply dont know who to talk to. I apologize if you think i am stupid. But better ask the pros, just like in the airline industry.

      People often do that just to "say they did it." HOWEVER, it gets very uncomfortable up there... It's cold, there is little oxygen, and most importantly, it puts tremendous strain on your motor - keeping it at full throttle to climb up that high on a tank of gas. For those who want their little 2-strokes to last for years, this isn't the best thing to do regularly =)

      Lol. We love Tucker... He's working hard to get the sport out there to people who have never seen anything like this. We get a LOT of business from his efforts due to price point... We are one of the very few domestic Manufacturers who don't have to tag on import fees, international shipping costs, dealer commission, etc, that make the same imported motors cost thousands more. It's nice to have help with the "heavy lifting" ;) Most people just want to fly and don't care about "hype." Thanks for taking the time to comment =)

      Great question! We have countless Pilots who put HUNDREDS of hours on their motor before even thinking about a rebuild... *However*, the question is very relative to how they treat the machine... Just like so many people will keep driving their car - year after year - until it "makes funny sounds" or breaks down on the side of the road. Pre-flight inspections are so very important and don't take much time at all, however, just like people who drive their cars into the ground, many Pilots (OF ANY BRAND) will neglect maintenance or checking things like the spark plug color, therefore possibly having an effect on their machine's performance. Regardless of what brand motor you get, ALWAYS conduct pre-flight inspections, make proper adjustments if you travel to a lower or higher elevation than where you usually fly, use the proper fuel / oil, and store the motor correctly when not in use, make sure the motor isn't running too rich or too lean, and you should have one fine-tuned machine that will last for years! Take care of your Paramotor and it will take care of you =)
      Hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions about the sport. We're always here to help you out =)

      GREAT question Jason! There are many Paragliders out there and it can be quite daunting to get a simple answer sometimes... Especially when the person you are getting your information from wants to sell you something lol... I remember running into that when I first discovered this amazing sport. To help answer your question in part: Beginner Paragliders are a little slower to respond (less agile than advanced gliders), they offer more "passive safety features" and are more "forgiving" to Pilot input, they recover VERY quickly and easily if there is a partial / full collapse, many are certified by governing bodies in Europe (by going through many rigorous tests), they are used a lot in schools to learn on, they are typically longer and wider than more advanced gliders, they DO NOT feature "reflex technology," the lines are often thicker, and so much more... When you have time, give us a call. We'd be happy to go over the finer points and can recommend some gliders based on YOUR personal needs and flying style. Hope you have a great start to your week =)

      Thanks for the GREAT comment Cole! It can be really hard to get an honest straight answer from Dealers in this sport for some reason. I remember when I first discovered this amazing sport and started calling around. It was amazing to hear some of the things that people would say. Everyone I called would tell me that their stuff was the best, and everything else sucks. Some even go as far as telling people that they will die if they purchase the wrong brand - when this is the safest form of aviation there is. I understand your appreciation for open / honest communication. I worked for another Manufacturer for a couple of years before I came here. It was such a nice change of pace to work with BlackHawk. You are going to LOVE this sport. Be careful when doing research and listen to people who aren't trying to sell you something... That's my best advice. Oh man... There are just a couple of "characters" in this sport (Dell Schanze being another one), who cause problems for everyone - not just us. PLEASE be careful with ANY Dealer who takes attention away from their own product by talking negatively about others. Especially if they are using "fear" to push their products. Fear just doesn't belong in this sport and is a horrible way to try and sell someone a product. If Honda was telling people "you will die if you buy a Suzuki," can you imagine how people would react to that kind of unprofessionalism? It's so strange some people do that... We are the largest, lowest-price Manufacturer in the US. An example would be like calling a small town shop and ask them what they think of Walmart down the street... They just can't compete and many just lose themselves in the unnecessary "politics" of the sport. Most people are amazing and it should be all about the flying - not what logo you have on your gear. Pilots get so nasty and brand-biased sometimes (like Ford and Chevy owners lol). I strongly urge you to call other Manufacturers before deciding on a brand. I don't care if you buy one from us, or someone else... As long as YOU are happy with your choice, that's all that matters! Below is an article you might want to check out. Feel free to give us a call anytime to see the difference in our Staff =)

    Lol the entire comments section is like "I'm obese as fuck am I too fat to fly?" And blackhawk responds all like "Dawg we can handle two of you dawg" but my problem is very different. I'm 6'2 and 150 pounds so I'm light as fuck but my limbs are really long, is the cage bigger on the 125? I don't want my legs dangling into the prop

    • @blackhawkparamotor
      @blackhawkparamotor  7 років тому +1

      Lolol. The average age of our customers is 55 and around 225lbs... A lot of people get into this sport after they retire and are looking to accomplish their dreams before it's too late. We've had some VERY tall students in our school... Every body-type imaginable - including paraplegic students. Even if you put your legs all the way back, the cage is designed to protect them - as well as glider lines when you land / takeoff, etc. There is only one brand out there that has what they call a "crumple zone" which was a gas-tank enclosure design flaw and it will majorly bang into the back of your legs when running. I used to work for that company and the machines are old-school technology. Other than that, most units out there are designed to protect the Pilot above all. I'd strongly suggest a cage that has double reinforced rings... There are some lightweight units out there where corners are cut to save weight - making the cages bendable where the prop or a body part can hit them. Be careful and research everything you hear. Dealers will tell you anything to sell something. Listen to what customers have to say over someone selling you something. There is a Facebook group called "Paramotor" with over 10,000 members. That's a good place to start =)

    Very insightful video. Up front information is hard to come by and that is very frustrating for people starting out. There is very little up front information because nobody wants to make claims of performance because ACTUAL performance is so dependent on many factors. So, often, we are left to do our own research and have to make best guesses with little or no actual guidance. However...once you make your purchase, you have dozens of people telling you why you made the wrong decisions. These are the same people who had no answers when you were asking for guidance.

    • @blackhawkparamotor
      @blackhawkparamotor  7 років тому +1

      This industry is RIDICULOUS! I completely can relate to your frustrations. I remember before I worked for a Manufacturer, I was in the same situation you were... Calling around and listening to a bunch of "used car salesmen" telling me ANYTHING to make a sale... Most of the time they would spend the majority of the conversation talking crap about other brands, instead of educating me on what they sell. EVERY Manufacturer I called said that "their stuff is the absolute best and everything else is total crap." That statement is total crap lol. There are several decent products out there. Here's what I would recommend: There is a group on Facebook called "Paramotor" Group. It has over 10,000 members. There are a LOT of Dealers on there, but many more Pilots who aren't trying to sell you something. Go on there and listen to people who own a specific motor you are interested in... BUT DON'T LISTEN TO WHAT ANYONE SAYS WHO IS TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMETHING! I know that sounds strange coming from a Manufacturer, but I really get your frustrations. This sport could be so much more amazing than it already is if people would just get along and keep their ego out of the situation. Also, be very careful of people requiring that you spend $10,000 on something before they will even train you. Go with a large facility that will let you try things out before you purchase. I'd be happy to talk to you more. Sounds like we see things very similarly. Give our office a call and let them know that you want my phone number... I'm not going to post it here lol. Hope to hear from you!

      +BlackHawk Paramotor Hi Channing! I got your last comment. It would be great to have you come out and see the Ranch in California. We have some amazing places to explore here. We have a big event coming up in April - it happens every year. If you can make it, We'd love to have you. As far as the Flat Top goes, I personally used to work for Flat Top and would be happy to talk to you about my experiences with them. There are a lot of reasons why I chose to represent a different company. If you just Google Dell Schanze and Flat Top, you will see many of those reasons in Dell's arrest reports. We have great gear and amazing people here. If Flat Top is the only company you have experience with, it will be a breath of fresh air when you meet our people or try a BlackHawk motor. Give us a call and leave your info... Mention that you are looking to talk to me and I'll call you back. Hope you have a GREAT week and blue skies!

      Hi David! I don't know how your comment was missed so I'm sorry for the late response. Welcome to the sport of Powered Paragliding! We have many Pilots who live in Colorado. There's some amazing places to fly there! At your weight, the 125 would work, but I'd suggest a motor with just a little bit more power for that elevation... Our Talon or AirMax are fantastic motors for Pilots at higher elevations and they are only a few lbs heavier than the 125. It's also important that your Instructor goes over making small adjustments to the motor for flying at 8000+ ft, so make sure to mention that to whomever teaches you how to fly. Let's chat... We're happy to answer your questions and help point you in the right direction. Give our office a call when you have some free time =)

    ! have a similar question as AppCarpenter. Being a former windsurfer and a sailor not a powerboater, there's appeal to paragliding. But I don't live near mountains or other PG flying sites. So I'm considering PPG. Your answer was the first I've seen saying learn PPG first; most say learn PG to know how to control a sail and add the noisy, stinky thing later. PPG first, really?

    • @blackhawkparamotor
      @blackhawkparamotor  9 років тому

      VARocketry Thanks for the comment! The argument can go either way... There are many different thoughts on this topic. It really comes down to what YOU want to do as a pilot... Are you going to fly more PG than PPG? Does funding prevent you from doing both? They are both so similar, it depends on your goals as a Pilot... In our experience, it's easier to learn PPG than PG due to less uncontrollable factors (the wind / location). If you start out with something that is easier to learn, and provides you a LOT more opportunities to fly (not just depending on the wind at a PG site), and you can always build on those skills later by transitioning into PG. Hope that helps. Feel free to give us a call and talk to one of our Instructors. (209) 786-7899

      Hi Brandon! Our prices INCLUDE the Paraglider, and many accessories like a wind sock, oil mixing bottle, prop covers, tool kit, glider line repair kit, and more. Most other companies do not include the Paraglider - much less the additional accessories. When you are looking at prices online, make sure to see if they come with the Paraglider. Most gliders cost around $3000 and up - which are included in our prices. This is most often NOT included in other prices out there. I hope that helps and let us know if you have any more questions. We're always here to help, and you are right... We are VERY concerned about customer service and quality of our equipment.

    You might know about it, but you didn't touch on probably to greatest benefit to owning a 2 seat PPC/quad.
    As long as it falls under any of the LSA parameters, is a certified airframe with an "N" number, all of the hours will count towards either commercial or ATP hour requirements.
    Commercial requires 250 hours, but only 50 have to be in a powered airplane. With 87 octane under 2 bucks, and a 3 gph fuel burn, that's only $1200 for the other 200 hours. Avgas is 5 bucks, a Cessna 172 burns 8.5 gph. Thats $42.50 an hour. $8500 for 200 hours. You can fly for 1400 hours for the same amount with a PPC. Now we are talking commercial transport pilot hours for under $10k in fuel.

      Sure, you can, but it will cost you. One of the worst things about airline tickets are the cost of checked baggage. Oversized can get pretty expensive. Just keep that in mind and check the airline baggage rules. Also for something the size of a paramotor you really need to personally contact them before buying the ticket and get the information first hand.

    • @blackhawkparamotor
      @blackhawkparamotor  7 років тому

      Dell sent you lol. I worked for him for two years as his Marketing Director. VERY glad to be somewhere else. I highly recommend training inland. I learned on the coast - where there is "perfect smooth winds" all day long and it gave me a false sense of security in my ability to fly. Most people fly inland where the winds are constantly changing. The more of a challenge, the more you will learn. I had to pay for lessons twice which wasn't the plan. The weather is starting to get really nice in California... I'd recommend April or spring time, or in the fall. Summer can get quite hot, and winters here can be cold. We also have Training Centers all over the US, so let us know where you live and we can possibly save you some time & resources by not having to go very far. When you contact our office, let us know your age, weight, and elevation where you live so we can put together a customized price quote for equipment that suits your needs =)

    Hello,
    My weight is 85 kilogram, age 37
    I want to have a paramotor for joyride, which may go high more than a kilometer, robust enough, electronic start( if possible), including Parachute, harness, emergency parachute. ( Trike or quad is not nedded. )
    1. Can you suggest a paramotor for me?
    2. What will be the total cost?
    3. Can I get the stuff in India anyhow?
    4. If yes how can I get after sell service?
    5. Will you send parts if any required later on?
    Pls bear the pain to answer the above..
    Thanks and regards.

      Hi Manoranjan! Thanks for the comment and welcome to the sport of Powered Paragliding! I'd recommend looking into our AirMax 220, or Talon 190 Paramotor with an electric start. Below is a link to those motors on our website. As far as cost goes, we just need to calculate the shipping to where you live. When you have time, can you please contact our office and our Sales Director Heidi Lee will put together a customized price quote for shipping to India. We have many customers in India, so it's no problem! As a rough estimate, you will probably be looking at around $9000 for everything needed to fly. It could be more, and it could be less...
