I definitely would have been overwhelmed, emotionally, stepping onto that beach, and into that cabin.🙏 He was an amazing man, that lived an amazing life. To be there, where he walked, lived, and immersed himself so fully would be a once in a lifetime experience. Thankyou Shawn James for sharing such an incredible place with us.
My family thought I was crazy staying by myself in a cabin for rest relaxing quilting fishing GOD that is HEAVEN TO ME love that know how he felt same with Shawn really people don't know what they are missing in life to be by themselves for a bit to watch NATURE at it BEST you are so KIND Shawn your wife is the luckiest lady on earth to be with you!!!
Fishing is great, like taking lollies of little kids, but you have the right attitude only take what you need and release the rest, the scenery is unbelievable...
Man that’s a beautiful place to camp. It seemed very tranquil. Looked to be pristine wilderness, sadly a rarity now. How fortunate you are to have access to such stunning country. Great subject matter for your photography too. And fishing as well. Catch and cook. I love fish, very healthy, those ones looked prime eating. Great video Shawn. Thank you very much.
One exception. . . Glacial water is not “incredibly clean”! Its full of what is called “rock flour”, which is essentially dust from glacial erosion. That’s also why many Alaskan rivers are so wide and meandering. . . the rock flour spreads out and jams up the rivers/streams. Most are not clear at all.
When you departed twin lakes must of been a pull on your heart strings the deep feeling of this place shows in your work someone like myself probably will never ever see this place first hand But I have seen it! Thank You Shawn
Thank you for sharing what you are thinking about, what is on your mind, and the majesty of the area. You are fulfilling a bucket list item for a lot of your viewers. Stay safe, Shawn James!
I am so thrilled and thankful that you have taken us along on this incredibly beautiful trip to Alaska. Your videographer skills just get more amazing over time. I was so glad to hear you talk about the balance of wanting to see and live in harmony with the wildlife and the need to eat. Incredible. So incredibly beautiful. I have never seen anything as beautiful as what you have shown us on this trip. I don’t know how you slept at all with the possibility of a bear visit. Of course at the same time maybe the electric fence is just an illusion of safety. I would have had to sleep in the bear box. I always enjoy listening to you talk and share what is on your mind. Thank you again for all the hard work that went in to creating this Documentary of your Alaska trip. 💖
Hello Shawn James, I have never saw such a beautiful place like where you visited, while you were showing the pictures of the mountains and rivers I took pictures off of my TV, they are beautiful, I know you enjoyed your vacation. God bless you.
Thankfully places like this are still virtually un=touched and hopefully it stays that way! At 20:00 what an amazing view and I'll bet a Winter view shot from the same vantage point would be equally amazing!
It always amazes me how small the conifers are in Alaska. I guess because I've lived in the coastal redwoods of northern California and have seen breath taking Sequoias. Tree's are kinda short here in Oregon as well, I sure do miss my big redwood trees! Also the cones of the Coulter and the sugar pines! Mmm, beautiful Alaska though. We have been blessed with such amazing nature! Incredible video, as always, thanks Shawn. :)
I think it’s a special talent when you can stare at nature for hours and be content. The sounds and visuals should be stimulating enough. The world with its petty problems becomes meaningless when you spend time in such a place.
For me this was, is my dream. Thank you for sharing and expressing your excitement, like a kid on Christmas Day, as you look at THE VIEW and hook that first fish.
Memories when I was in the Scouts sleeping with friends, maybe four of us out in the open on a ground cloth. Woke up feeling pressure on my legs... it was a Bear Cub walking across our sleeping bags. Glanced over at where we have our food hanging from a tree and there was Mama Bear watching another of he cubs climbing the tree.... needles to say we all stayed very very quite until they finally gave up trying to get our food.... closest I’ve ever come to a Bear! Thanks for the sharing a great Adventure with us all.
Nice footage catching the fish. So good to see fellow fishermen not taking the fish so much out of the water, but just taking the hook out in the water. Thanks Shawn. Beautiful country.
Watching this series makes me want to get the journals to read for myself. The landscape is amazing. My nephew and his wife took the Alaska cruise and the train to Denali. I was amazed at the size of the cabbages in one of their pictures. Never thought that it might be because of the extended daylight. I just assumed it was because of the rich soil. Thanks for giving us this gift of solitude and beauty!
Great video again. Iv'e not see you smile so much as you have on your Alaskan adventure. You are obviously having a blast. Good for you. Regards Erich from Southeastern Australia
What AWESOME & incredible photos & video Shawn! Enjoying the views very much & reminds me somewhat of my week vacation in B.C. Canada - at Hope where a landslide had litterly buried a whole community a long time ago, also went to Vancouver & the island, along with many places in between ... it was a once in a lifetime trip that I totally enjoyed ... it's awe inspiring to watch rain start from one side of a lake or mountain and go clear across to the other while the sun follows... ALL the photos are magnificent views of what I enjoy seeing ... THANK YOU so very much.
There is no shortage of pretty things to look at. Every view is better than the last. The wildlife is cool to look at. Who could blame him. Heck I've never been and would love to wake up to the bounty twin lakes has to offer. Great video.
Alaska is truly an awe inspiring place, I live in Australia and would live to visit one day. I take it that this area is covered in snow through winter? Awesome Shawn thankyou.
Wow. Some great shots of the majesty of the wilderness up there Shawn. Oh what an experience! I wish I had the resources to visit you up at your cabin. I think we're kindred souls. Dick Proenneke, Jeremiah Johnson, the Wilderness Family, and the mountain men of the 1800s have all been my life's inspirations. I've seen the deep contemplation and appreciation in your face, and the awe in your voice, that only a true lover of God's wondrous creation can appreciate. The mountains, the forests, and the wilderness are things that can capture our very soul if we attune to it. They were bred into mine. That's why I finally moved out here to the Rockies of Montana (but still love the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachians of Pennsylvania and Virginia) when life finally opened the path. Make the most of your dream up there at your home Shawn. You're living a life that most can't even imagine let alone pursue.
That is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I loved Monument Valley, Victoria BC, and most of the Pacific Northwest, especially the rain forest in the Olympic Mountain range, and can't wait to see beautiful Alaska. I should also mention, the Swiss Alps were amazing, too. The Fjords of Norway, that's a place I'd like to see....bucket lists. At least I can live through some of these amazing videos you post.
Excellent video Shawn, it sucks you get home and someone steals your camera and wallet, what low life's. Like one of your subs said and is my sentiment I can't tolerate liars and thieves. Thanks for your hard work.
Your photography is so well done. Even your still shots are awesome. At the end of your videos I think now he has to top this one...and you do! I love it! Keep eh coming!
Having spent quite a bit of time in the great state of Alaska I agree that it makes most other places pale in comparison. But I also know that the place you have built and continue to build is a magical place as well. I applaud you for your vision, skill, hard work and guidance. Only we know if the path we are on is the right one. I have a feeling you know that yours is true!
I am nervous watching this. Looking out for the bears! The video is so well done, it feels as if I am right there with you. Beautifully majestic Alaska!
That is such a beautiful place on Earth ...but I am sure you missed those Ontario woodlands you know best back East. I felt this when I camped and hiked at Yosemite National Park..yes it was immense, beautiful and grand.. but at the end of the day I missed my pine forests that I was most comfortable and familiar with in Alabama.
Man and their machines! You reminded me of Robert Redford's odyssey in the mountains of Utah back in the 1970's. He loved it so much he invited the hordes to the Sundance Film Festival! I felt for the locale and it's denizens each subsequent year and right up to the present day. It's almost impossible to go off grid worldwide. Tentacles of civilisation are spreading everywhere. TFS
Outstanding stuff!!! I found your deciding how to end the day to be hilarious and don't know why. Having to consider bears all the time had me antsy even while sitting in my living room. Someone below mentioned sleeping in one of the bear boxes (lol)... that made me think that it might be nice if the rangers built a cage for campers to sleep peacefully in :)... maybe something like the shark cage in Jaws. Your the best Shawn and I'm super grateful for your talent and sharing!
Once again amazing content on both your channels today. I love to eat both Char and Grayling but man, Arctic grayling is my favorite tastie flaky white flesh that has its own unique yet pleasant flavor.
I wish we had more people like you in the world. Unfortunately we don't. People mowing down forests and causing extinction. Trash and pollution everywhere destroying this beautiful planet. I live in a small mountain town in Northern Georgia. Over the past year I've watched this beautiful wooded land get cut down acre by acre. The population has exploded up here. It's frustrating. One thing I don't understand is people moving to the country or mountains to get away then turn around and try to turn it into the place they were getting away from in the first place 🤔 So when I feel overwhelmed I just go to your channel and clear my mind. You remind me there is still good people like you out there and gives me hope. You can't buy peace of mind. You have to unplug from the chaos and just take in the earth's beauty. Thank you for giving me an escape outlet.
Watching you bushwack your way across that brushy area reminded me of a time in Colorado in 1987. A climbing buddy and I were coming down off of Gray's and Torres Peaks which are not far from Georgetown. We were heading down into the gulch and it was starting to get dark. It was twilight where things are getting hard to see. My climbing partner had my pack on so we could travel faster. His legs were longer than mine plus he could hike at 5 mph vs my 4 mph. I remembered my flashlight was in the pack, but getting him to stop was impossible. We were cutting across an area that looked like heather. Growing about 2 feet tall. Suddenly I stepped down on some little animal, and it screamed out loudly. I finally convinced him to stop. I got my flashlight and retraced my steps and found where we left the trail. Another 15 minutes and it was dark. It still took at least another half an hour to get back to the truck. My son and I climbed those same mountains 3 years later. Anyway take care and be safe. Vaughn
Bears. Camping alone with bears is tough. When I first found huge very fresh bear prints around camp, where I previously thought there were few bears I did not get a lot of sleep. Solo camping and sleeping in little more than a bivvy did not offer much protection, no protection. Eventually passed out after a hard hike the previous day at 0300. Every noise in the forest became a bear :( But being in grizzly country is a whole "other level". After several days the lack of sleep and hiking is really quite exhausting. Interesting being in an environment where we are not at the top of the feeding hierarchy. Great video thanks and the scenery - wonderful.
I watched your video twice ! The first on my Roku and now on my iPad so that I can comment that I love watching all of your videos ! Watch out for those bears ! Thanks Shawn !
I so agree with you, Shawn ... the last stag I had in my sights, a break in the clouds, had the sun shine down on the deer ... it was such a moment, that I dropped the foresight and loosed the bolt, and just watched him go about his business ... it is not always about the hunt ...

Can't get over how incredible clean the water is. The fish looks amazing. Still awestruck by the immenseness of the countryside.

It's like walking through a Bob Ross painting. Beautiful footage.
Robert Bovasso ..yes. But bad audio ..which could have been avoided..
In complete awe of Alaska.... Shawn did a fine job capturing the magic. Safe travels
I am watching, rewatching your videos. Brings such a calmness to me. You are a gentle soul Shawn. Thank you for the journey.
Oh Shawn .. You caught some great fish !And the views .So majestic
