This is the secret of color mixing in acrylic portrait paiinting on canvas. I am using only water as the medium. No retarder and medium used for this entire painting.
I have started this painting of Vyjayanthimala with a monochrome undertone with Burnt umber and white. Then applied various layers of colors with glazing technique to achieve the right skin tone.

Truely wonderful. I never thought that acrylic would be this flexible. It was very insightful. Thankyou for that. I would love to know more details like the consistency of paint used and what level of wetness/dryness is required so that each layer blends well to create the required texture. Beautiful work though I loved it. 😊
Yes. Acrylic is more versatile in some cases then any other medium. Wetness is what you need to control on your brush and palette too. It depends on your working style. I usually use lesser water towards the finishing of a painting. I use dry brush most of the time.

In this video I have use the glazing technique. You can use Burnt Umber or Raw Umber + white to create this under painting. It will go with all subjects. Thank you so much for your appreciation.

1. How you save your acrylic from drying faster.
2.How do you turn this painting to black to colour , if we do same it will overlap the details ( like nose and shadow detail will overlapped).

I use water mist spray to keep my paint moist. It works most of the time.
Secondly, it will not overlap with the underlayer as long as you paint in layers. Don't apply thick colors at once. Use glaze I have discussed in this video or some of my recent videos.

I did oil color till 2008. But now I paint with acrylic only. You'll find many artist doing oil portrait here on UA-cam. They are best then mine.

You can use acrylic on buckram too. But you have to apply gesso before painting. Otherwise the colour will soak up by cloth. Thank you for watching 😊

How do you keep your palette and canvas wet to blend?
I use water spray to keep my paint moist.

i tried to paint a portrait on 200 gsm paper with box acrylic but as i applied color it dried to fast and i cant blend it and made my painting look too bad , sir do u know how can i prevent that it dries too fast
It's really hard to paint realistic works in paper with Acrylic. If you want to do, use a coat of white before applying colors. Thank you so much for watching 😊

Deft touches of the brush. Not a millimetre out of place. People use grids for ease. The face emerged magically after you completed the nose !!
