Got the bass. Love it but Guitar Center really pisses me off. It's got neck dents from wall hanging. But hey I got $230 back and kept it. I am in love. I did want to say that I find the secure jack super easy to unplug one handed with a 90 deg cord end. it is about a 1 second procedure and can be done while the bass hangs off me like any other. But then I am a gear nerd... I also am in a long standing habit of having my cord make a loose loop through my strap so there is safety in my system against damaging my bass. Cheers brother. Thanks for providing me with a great video .
I have no interest in buying a six-string bass, but man is this a good review. Great work on the review! I wish I found this level of depth in a review before I bought my last guitar.
Thank you for this review. I got my 846sc in 2017. Its my only bass. Instead of letting go of my guitar cable when I stepped on it, the jack pulled out of the body. I took the jack apart and removed the spring. A toothpick and some Elmers put it back together. The bass is well balanced but very heavy. A wide strap helps but only for a few hours. Thanks again.
@@MyDeepGuide I had always wrapped the cable around the strap before the BTB and I don't remember ever stepping on it. Now I wrap it again, I don't think I've stepped on it since. Funny how that works.

Hi from México. I am a drummer, but I really liked your review, even I did not want it finishes. I love the way you play, you inspired me. Thanks.... I have subscribed Cheers
Hello, thank you for the deep dive review. Currently, I'm on the fence of what six string to buy. Right now, I'm considering a multiscale because of its design similar to a piano, giving it a consistent tone and feel to it. But then there's the fanned frets, and from what I've heard, it can be difficult to play on the upper registers. This BTB866 has caught my eye though. It looks pretty good. I can see the bridge is sort of similar to what you would expect from a multiscale. Would you say there's a consistent tone and feel to the strings on this bass? Also, how's the B string. Thank you!
Very strange to hear someone say 17mm string spacing in a 6 string is wide. I don't think I've ever seen narrower. I much prefer the 18mm of the Dingwalls, but just ordered one of these. Looking forward to getting it. Such a beaitful bass
Thank you SO much for your very usable in depth review of your BTB. Can I ask how it has been over the past couple of years? Has it met your expectations? :-)
@@MyDeepGuide Good to hear! I'll definitely be on the lookout for something similar. Personally I would be looking for a 5-string. Sadly it seems that Ibanez have stopped making the Single Cutout versions? 🤔
Thank you for this review! I'm seriously considering this bass as my next 6-string and you have given an incredibly thorough accounting of it. It's between this and the Yamaha TRB 1006j for me. I was wondering if you've tried this Yamaha before?
@@MyDeepGuide Thanks for the reply but ...damn... This probably means on the 866 the pickups and the finger ramp are also flat. I have a btb556 and made a custom finger ramp for it and if it's not radiused like the fingerboard it feels uncomfortable. D and A strings sit higher than C and B.
Your Beautiful review prompted me to shop around for this bass. Always found it out of stock I'm shops in South Africa so settled for the BTB846 CBL. But I can't seem to find any reviews on this one. Do you have an idea what the differences with the DTL are? They seem to have all similar features.
Well, it's not a single cut away, which means there will be less sustain and the sound of the instrument will be different. The rest is the same configuration, but it's not the same bass. That big chunk that extends all the way to the 12th fret, it does define it's raw sound characteristics, so they'll sound a bit different.
I mostly play sitting down, but when I do play it strapped, I don't mind it, but then again, I rarely play for longer than 1-2 hours strapped. So for such use case scenario a, not at all. My Warwick Thumb is much harder on the shoulders for even 30 minutes than this one. Probably down to weight distribution.
Hello! Amazing tones you have there! Have you had any problems adjusting the intonation on these monorail bridges ? I have read on forums that Ibanez places these bridges too far back, meaning that you have to bring the saddle too far forward towards the bridge pickup, which doesn't leave a lot of range for adjustment left. Was this the case with this bass ?
Thanks! Nope, not at all. You can see the placement in the video for yourself. That is with the intonation setup to be perfect. However, I am using the factory strong gauge. This might be an issue if someone is using other than factory recommended string gauge.
Hello, thank you for the helpful review. How would you describe the neck finish? Is it glossy like typical fender or is it thin satin like most Ibanez?
Yeah, and no. As far as I know, later models of SR506 have the same pickups and electronics, so the driver of the sound will be the same, but the sound vessel (wood and construction) is different, especially with the big top that really does add a lot of sustain. So I wouldn't expect a huge difference, but definitely a different flavor.
No, it's a dual coil pick up :) This article can help explain better. www.sweetwater.com/insync/what-are-the-differences-between-single-coil-and-dual-coil-pickups/
They could, but they employ different configurations of dual coils and have different names for them, so dual coil simply fits better and is more correct if you take a look at their line of setups. But essentialy, yeah, it's a humbucker configuration. contact.bartolini.net/support/solutions/articles/5000552601-pickups-coil-types
Why would any bassist really want a long sustain bass. It just causes unwanted ringing of other strings that you normally wouldn't want ringing. So as noted in most music. Bass is never really long noted in play. Usually very short notes. So. Sustain on bass? Probably not a needed "thing" on bass playing. Unless you play with a bow. Lol. Good luck with sympathetic noise from strings during playing on that sustaining bass
What you are saying will depend on the playing and music style. As for muting strings, it is one of the most fundamental needs to have control over individual string muting on any bass, especially the ones with the extended range. So no luck needed, just proper practice to get good at it and develop good habits when playing, but yeah, the technique of playing is a little different than on a regular 4 string bass.
@@Bassplayingypsy It makes a lot of sense. If you're playing some looper-type atmospheric music, as a solo bass, using the extended range and chordal options, sustain can be very important. If you're playing boomer blues, you can play it with a 250$ bass.
If it sustains better that means it has more resonance. Why wouldn't you want that? Les Pauls resonate better than most other guitars for the same construction reason. Sounds more acoustic and fuller. Not sure why anyone would be against that. Unless you're playing Flamenco.
@@MyDeepGuide I just tried to buy it in Sweden and apparently it is out of production. Do you know if this was due to some defects, or was it only ever a limited edition? Thanks again for any advice.
