BEWARE This SOUND SYSTEM... It's Almost TOO LOUD!!! EXO BASS Tap Out to INSANE Subwoofer Setup

  • Now this was just too much... Today we've have two more insane car audio systems slamming the blacktop at TDH! First up, John's 9 15" subs on 30,000 watts. Then we hop inside Will's JEEP with 9 12's making me tap out like a little NOOB! Definitely a crazy sounding subwoofer setup, and also these were some of the loudest demos from the show. My initial reaction should say it all. Thanks For Watching :D

    Wow, I used to be into this. Nice to see how far this has come. I was a a SEMA show in 2007 or 08. I was inside one of the exhibition halls when a big bass note hit my ear. I was drawn to it like a mosquito to a human. It was a Hummer parked outside at least a 100 yards away. I had not heard anything like it before and stuck my head inside the window, got my brains scrambled. Just crazy, the cab was filled with dust particles that seemed to just float in air.
    Went back in and and hour later passing through, I swung by the Hummer and asked when he was going to fire it up again. He told me they, SEMA, shut him down. Too many other cars complained that they could not talk to customers.

    I've been to a lot of F1 races over the years and I imagine this must sound something like the start of a race. During the V10 era the start was amazing, noise off the scale and an almost equally loud low rumble you felt through your entire body, it was a stunning experience.
    To think of those kinds of energy levels in the cabin with you is both amazing and a little bit scary at the same time.

    I would be curious to experiment with some DSP on the first setup and time delay the front/middle woofers so that when the sound arrives at the front they all "hit" at once. Of course, each sub would need its own chamber so there aren't multiple woofers in the same box firing at different times.

    Well, not to sound like a killjoy, but, damn guys, the equipment you guys are running is every bit of twice the stuff my generation used in 1990 to 2000 era... I have got to say, I played a roll in the beginning days of DB Drag Racing, and we run some heavy stuff, but, my point it, the few burps of the systems, has been enough to damage my hearing. I am tone deaf in the range that most non black female voices are at. I struggle with hearing the TV and it has pretty fine quality equipment, and that doesn't help.. I am simply tone deaf in that range. Imagine, seeing some body lips moving, and hearing nothing!!!! Please note, the majority of the time I was competing, and demoing my show cars at my shop, I would wear ear protection, literally 99 times out of a 100, and I still got my ears damaged... Now, here is the catch 22, I didn't start to notice the loss until it was too late, in turn, I got out of the stereo industry..... Brother, if you intend to be in this business long, you need to start taking measure to protect yourself... otherwise, you will have to start paying somebody else to tune your stuff and your customers as well, like I had to, which took much of the passion away from the process of the build. What the ears can hear, vs the highest end RTA, there is no match, and an RTA can dial in a system exceptionally well, but, your ears, and plugging them with your fingers to listen for any levels of crud from the out put, a RTA just can't hear/see.... protect your hearing brother!!!!!

    • @EXOcontralto
      @EXOcontralto  5 років тому +3

      I have to kindly and strongly disagree. You likely experienced hearing loss from other sources of loudness like vocals or exhaust systems. ua-cam.com/video/g8N-bea_lUk/v-deo.html

      @@EXOcontralto come on, you really don't think that, I know you are one smart guy... I used to compete against folks like Mark Fakuda, Dave (the fishman) Rivera, Rubin Fosgate, Tim Novac, Jack Kove, etc.... And so many more across the beloved USA, and we were all about that bass and tearing sheet metal and fracturing acrylic window that were clamped in, lol. Yes, many of us enjoyed the high end quality of a full spectrum of electrical noise reproduction in our daily drivers, but I never turned up the systems that had a full spec sound, as I didn't care for that, as I enjoyed the challenges of low volume, high accuracy full sound, and I do agree with you, the mids and the highs are what cause the instant hearing damage, but typically requires multiple times to create the amount of scar tissue on the drum. But, because it is instant, you catch it to the threshold of "SONE", which is why I named my speaker manufacturing business, "SONETEC, Inc." , which is the threshold of pain within the ears at or to the point of damage or bleeding. LOL. Some folks would mistake ("SONE" TEC) for a misspelled or copied trade marked SONY®, lol. Sorry, I ran off on a tangent there, I got so excited reminiscing of some old days ago, which is in part why I enjoy your channel. The other reason is, I enjoy seeing all this new and clever equipment that you and a few others are playing with, as it is mind blowing to me, as this industry has come a long ways... Any how, back to my point. As you already know, I am mentioning this for the folks who may not know, how amazing a person's pair of ears actually are. At low volumes, the ears can process a huge spectrum of sounds, from the low to the high side of the noise spectrum, and the higher the volume goes, the harder it is for the ear drums to keep up. In fact, the over driving of a subwoofer or any transducer for that matter, the harder it is to keep itself in check with the various parameters, also known as distortion. Well, the ear drums, will struggle to keep themselves in check as well, they vibrate out of control to the point of distortion, just in reverse. Never mind the inner ear not being able to keep up either, kinda like how clipping happens to an amplifier, but for the inner ear, just in reverse. Higher frequencies cause tears in the drums on the aspect of "speed" or as an audiophile would know this to be "Hz" or hertz. The lower ranges of sound are not very fast, in regards to what the mid to high ranges of an audio system, i.e., Sub-woofer, woofer, mid-bass woofer, mid's, tweeters. But, although not fast in speed of frequency, they deal allot of pressure, much of which is quite concussive or movement of air, or to say, the shock waves. Over driving or over powering a sub-woofer a typical result is damaging to the sub-woofer, or most cones speakers, known as excessive or over excursion of the the driver's motor structure and suspension. Well, likewise the ear drum , while trying to keep up with the pressure shock waves from a sub-woofer at higher volumes, will cause the ear drums to be in the state of excessively over excursion, often tearing the ear drums in the middle, where as the high frequencies tear at or around the the outer parameter of the drums. This tearing action heals quickly, but, always results in scar tissue. Any time you give any of these stereo systems a test run, and if you go into a quiet room, if you hear a ringing sound, even if it is a dinky ringing sound, that is a damaged and or torn ear drum(s). That old saying, or phrase, "hardening of the hearing" came from the industrial era of the 1940's to 1950's, half of th 60's, pending where you were at in the country, all of the loud machines that assisted in building this nation, men are "hard of hearing" by the time they were in their 30's to 40's, and sadly, many their hearing was so bad, that they were classified as deaf, due from the scar tissue always being harder then the drum itself. If the drum is torn, and does heal, the next time the drum is torn, it does not get torn in the same location as the last rupture, (if healed), nope, it will get torn just next to where to first was. The rupture will find the weakest part of the ear drum and break it there. But the scar tissue is approx 3 to 4 times harder then the drum tissue is. High frequency ruptures happen on the parameter, an if continued, will continue working their way inwards. Sorry for the novel, I am stuck on my couch healing from a broken back, so I am doing my best to not lose my mind sitting here doing nothing, and typing all this has allowed me to relax a wee bit... And if this is being read on a cell phone screen, I am really really sorry!!!. Just protect your ears brother, as one thing is for sure, it is a really stupid feeling ... Me having to ask all the time, " Can you Sir, please repeat that, and speak up". Lol... Good luck, and take care of you, as nobody else will give a carp about the struggle later, or being partially deaf or tone deaf... Dru

    I'm in my mid 40s .When I was 18 I had a 9000watt RMS NOMINAL Alpine and Audio Control system. Mild by today's standards .
    All subs Alpine Pro series.
    2 15s
    2 12s
    2 10s
    2 8s
    With 4 component 6.5 s 3" and 11/4 " .
    All Alpine amps . 3545s running all the subs .
    My point is. I can't hear worth a damn today and now looking back at how childish it was of me to have such a huge system , almost embarrasses me .
    I still love a great system that's balanced well. Just a word of caution.If you want to hear at 50 ,keep the volume down especially on those 2000+ Hz.

      Augustine Sullivan , I appreciate what you're saying regarding this, however under "normal"" playing conditions, the sounds can be astounding. When there is a competition, the goal is to produce the highest SPL possible. That's what you were witnessing. Just tooling around playing some Pink Floyd or AC/DC or even Beethoven, these systems are hard pressed to be equaled.

    • @604Voodoo
      @604Voodoo 6 років тому +5

      Augustine Sullivan disneydude45 Keep in mind these are also SPL vehicles. Competition formats vary from Sound Pressure Level - SPL and big walls. To Sound Quality Challenge - SQC where subs are the least of your worries asside from filling in the low end, some of those cars can rival seeing a song done live, all the way to Install Quality Challenge - IQC where installers show off their fab work and knowledge of how to put a system together. So not all car audiophiles rattle their doors going down the road...just those of us that are too broke for sound deadening :)
