Hi, thank you for this video. I am filing my 1040 for year 2020 to get the 3rd 1400 stimulus check (I never got the 1st or 2nd either) but I'm having a hard time filling it out. I had 3 jobs in the year 2020. 2 jobs were w2's and 1 job was a 1099. I made a total gross income of 12,599 with all 3 jobs combined for the year. I can't figure out the 1099 part. Can you help?
Your 1099 income goes on schedule C. Whoever gave you the form 1099 is treating you as an independent contractor. If this is true it means you have your own business and you need to fill out schedule C and schedule SE to pay your own social security taxes. If it's not true you need to ask whoever gave it to you to give you a W2 instead of a 1099. If they refuse you should report them to the IRS. Many employers treat their employees as independent contractors so they don't have to pay the social security tax. The IRS takes a rather dim view of this.
@@pdftax8031 Thank you for your response. I was an independent contractor and no taxes were taken out of the 3,987 I made. I couldn’t figure it out and went to H &R Block. And the cost to have them prepare and file my 2020 taxes is $450. I left and said I’d think about it. Does that seem fair?
I have printed out the forms, BUT do you have to type the amounts out before printing these sheets out OR can you write the amounts out in order for the IRS to accept your forms?
you can write it down with pens, pencils, fountain pens. The IRS just wants you to file the forms on time. Pay on time if you owe. If you make a mess of your calculations, they will fix it for you beautifully. They want your form, your W-2 form or forms from different employers if you have two jobs or more.
Here's the instructions for using prior year AGI for figuring EIC: Election to use prior year earned income. You may be able to use your 2018 earned income to figure your 2019 earned income credit (EIC) if: 1. Your 2018 earned income was greater than your 2019 earned income. 2. Your main home or the main home of your spouse if filing jointly was located in one of the federally declared disaster zones (or the disaster area outside of the disaster zone if you, and your spouse if filing jointly, were displaced from the main home due to the disaster) during any portion of that disaster's incident period. To make this election, enter "PYEI" and the amount of your 2018 earned income in the space next to Form 1040 or 1040-SR, line 18a. Disaster area. Any area where a major disaster was declared after 2017 by the President under section 401 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, except the California wildfire disaster area defined in the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018. Disaster zone. The portion of any disaster area which is determined by the President to warrant individual or individual and public assistance from the federal government under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. Incident period. The period specified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as the period during which the disaster occurred, but not including any dates before 2018 or after January 19, 2020. Joint returns. If you file a joint return, you qualify to make this election even if only one spouse meets the requirements. If you make the election, your 2018 earned income is the sum of your 2018 earned income and your spouse's 2018 earned income.

Is withholding just federal income tax or does it inlcude social security & medicare also
Just federal income tax.
I have printed out the forms, BUT do you have to type the amounts out before printing these sheets out OR can you write the amounts out in order for the IRS to accept your forms?
You can do either.
@@pdftax8031 thank you so much for your reply
you can write it down with pens, pencils, fountain pens. The IRS just wants you to file the forms on time. Pay on time if you owe. If you make a mess of your calculations, they will fix it for you beautifully. They want your form, your W-2 form or forms from different employers if you have two jobs or more.
Ok so with the lookback rule for those who were on unemployment for majority of the year, how would one use the 2019 agi to claim eic?
Here's the instructions for using prior year AGI for figuring EIC:
Election to use prior year earned income. You may be
able to use your 2018 earned income to figure your 2019
earned income credit (EIC) if:
1. Your 2018 earned income was greater than your 2019
earned income.
2. Your main home or the main home of your spouse if
filing jointly was located in one of the federally declared disaster zones (or the disaster area outside of
the disaster zone if you, and your spouse if filing
jointly, were displaced from the main home due to the
disaster) during any portion of that disaster's incident
period.
To make this election, enter "PYEI" and the amount of
your 2018 earned income in the space next to Form 1040
or 1040-SR, line 18a.
Disaster area. Any area where a major disaster was
declared after 2017 by the President under section 401 of
the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, except the California wildfire disaster area
defined in the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018.
Disaster zone. The portion of any disaster area which
is determined by the President to warrant individual or individual and public assistance from the federal government under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and
Emergency Assistance Act.
Incident period. The period specified by the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as the period
during which the disaster occurred, but not including any
dates before 2018 or after January 19, 2020.
Joint returns. If you file a joint return, you qualify to
make this election even if only one spouse meets the requirements. If you make the election, your 2018 earned income is the sum of your 2018 earned income and your
spouse's 2018 earned income.
@@pdftax8031 thank you. I decided to switch to turbo tax and it did ask more questions and was able to increase my refund. So if anyone reads this who is a hrblock user switch to turbo tax. The free system is more thorough.
Great job! Where do I put my property taxes on this form without without itemizing? Thank you!
You need to itemized to deduct property tax.
@@pdftax8031 thank you
Thank you for showing this, One question I have is whee do I report the amount of NYS unemployment I received?
Schedule 1, line 7.
@@pdftax8031 when I look at line 7 on my 1040 form it says capital gains...is that correct?? Thank you in advance for help
Hey can u tell me how to resolve a problem. I have someone to do my taxes but they've done it wrong I got a letter from the IRS saying the 1044 was done wrong. What kind of forms I need to file to do it right
Form 1040-X, Amended Tax Return
I did a 1040 when I did my return with TurboTax but I can’t get a status or a date could you possibly tell me why that is
dont worry, just send your tax forms, even if it wrong the IRS will recalculate the whole thing, if you are entitled to a larger refund, they will let you know and send the check, if you owe them, they will let you know and ask for that money too.
Hello Sir. Thanks for your clarity and your step by step explanation. I now believe I can do it..thumbs up and thanks..
Glad it helped
Hi I need some help, I was told by IRS to do Recovery Rebate Credit to get my 3rd EIP I never received, do I put 1,400 on LINE 30? I got no Income btw everything says 0
Yes, line 30.
Hello can I just send 1040 to irs or do I have to send my w2 also...thank for your time
W2's get attached to the front of form 1040.
Always, always keep copies for yourself of everything you send to both federal and state. Useful info when applying for a loan, etc.
why is the "stimulus" check recd in Jan 2021 be included in the 2020 tax forms??
Good question. The second stimulus was authorized in December 2020 but some didn't receive it till 2021.
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
