- Like Britney - I'm back bitches (sorta). Good LAWD...............shit has not cooperated for a bit now. Anyways, hope y'all are great & have been great! This cover was intended to be released on Dimebag's Birthday (8/20) and you see how that f*cking worked out. For this one, since I ended up with an unintended two week break - I tried out some different snare mic techniques. No high end studio shit - just a guy in a basement that threw mics in different spots and said 'Let's see what gives". What you're hearing this week involves a Sennheiser E614 to the side specifically dedicated to bringing out the snare from a distance because I wanted the room / overheads to do their job but a 5th source to become essentially a snare room mic specifically (YAY!!! Nerdiest thing I've done in a while), an Audix F15 that was in storage on the bottom moved 3-5 inches off center to the floor tom side and the same ol' SM 57 but I really, really sat with the EQ at 4 AM this AM and worked as much as I could for depth and definition using headphones. High tuning on the top head for this cut. I'm "hopeful" that I can catch a couple days in a row this weekend. Do my best to get a few tracked / filmed and I've got a collab I've been really, really looking forward to. It's a Morgan Rose track so no matter how many times I've heard it - I still have to make the time to sit and work out the parts (sorry for the delay Swede but my job does manage to come first over and over LOL!). What’s up Trey. This is one of my favorite Pantera songs. I listen to classic rock, heavy metal,hard rock. RIP Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell. They were good musicians and they were pretty badass. Vinnie later after Pantera he was the drummer for Hellyeah. Those types of rock like classic,hard rock , heavy metal. There are so many awesome bands to choose from that are good. I played the drums for 5 years now. I was 11 then now I’m 16.

Dude, that band was so tight that if I'm off - it never sees the light of day 🤣🤣🤣. Biggest issue I had was rushing it. I had to stop a few times because I was getting ahead (adrenaline). Now, that build up into the ride and snare fill about midway through - that's tricky. Appreciate ya Chris!

Dude, I was kept moving it and I'd record a minute. Listen then move it again. I wanna say about an hour passed and I realized I'd lost my damn mind 🤣🤣🤣🤣 In all seriousness though - I'm loving these EZ Mix room and overhead presets. Overheads are tricky for me. Room - I compress the shit out of it anyway. But EZ does make it easy.

I'll have to see it before I can make up my mind as to whether it was a good call. A huge part of it will be if they call it Pantera. @@TreyBDrums I’m torn too with the “Pantera” tour. On the flip side of it, Zakk Wylde & Charlie Benante are definitely the only 2 that I’d want to fill Dimebag’s & Vinnie’s shoes. From what I’ve read & heard about the tour, it’s more of a celebration of Pantera’s legacy than a reunion. Also, I’m happy for the younger generation that never got to hear Pantera’s music live! August, 20, 1994, The Spectrum in Philadelphia, Dimebag’s birthday, last US show of the Far Beyond Driven tour. Look it up on UA-cam. I was there, right in front of the guy that recorded it. Mine too man. I used to tell people that visually I was inspired by Tommy Lee, Randy Castillo, Morgan Rose - etc but sonically Vinnie Paul got my attention big time. His mix ruined me LOL! @@TreyBDrums yes and one great idea is to use a real bell upon the rides bell if it's not so crystal clear to give that result, it's difficult to see it if video runs between scenes fast as the songs row!! I wish you too to doing great!!

DOOOD! I forget that the ol' Texas metal was down your alley at times! Man, I don't know if you'd remember this but at one point, we cut tracks on a 4 track machine. We had been listening to Korn, Pantera - etc. You came up with MONSTER riffs. I have tried to find that tape I don't know how many times Skully. GOD it was good stuff.

If I had done that, I would have gotten even more ping 🤣🤣🤣. Seriously - next time through on them (as long as it's a song where my hands aren't having to go nuts), sticks get flipped back. Did he do both or was it just the left that was butt end?
@@TreyBDrums Hey sorry for the late reply. As far as I know Vinnie played both left and right with the butt end. Also I remember having a pair of his signature sticks in high school(1995ish) that were literally just butt ends on both sides (no taper end or tip). Later in my early 20's (2001ish) I started playing my left hand butt end like Mike Portnoy. I still play that way today almost 90 percent of the time, depending on song and style.
@@TreyBDrums Also I remember an ad in drummer magazine from the 90's with Vinnie. I think it was for Zildjian cymbals. He had like a mean look on his face and there was a quote that said something like "I play hard, with the back ends of my sticks, so I need tough cymbals that will hold up"
