I wished they talked more about the soundtrack! Dev Hynes really nailed it with the music.
adrienne fr its been so long and i still listen to the soundtrack its so good
@@fellthruearth right??? i want to know what's going on in dev's brain
Champagne coast best song of all time
I have never been so intrigued with a film before. I relate to everything about this movie on so many levels. Truly a work of art and the best depiction of teenagehood in a suburban environment.
exactly the way I feel. well said.
This was a very good movie and I think Nat Wolff's best performance so far, even better than The Fault In Our Stars or Paper Towns. He needs to do more roles like this. Great job.
+maya. personally, i love his role in stuck in love and it's a brilliant movie too
YES i agree.
maya. yes he really convinced me to hate him lmao
I like him in TFIOS 😎
Probli bcuz that's the only movie I've seen him in 😹😂😹😂😹😂
he did a good job, playing a hard working Mormons Son with a red car and the angst for being the newbie!!
The fact that James did a movie so he could give the money to her is amazing. That's real dedication right there.
Garage Sale right cause when a man does something nice to a woman (which btw was also in his interesting), she should fuck him as a reward. Dude do you even read the bullshit you type?
Garage Sale I do not know for sure ... the idea of James Franco with a girl feels so wrong ... I have to get used to this information after so many films of him kissing guys
Out of curiosity..what movie did he do for the quick money just to foot the bill of this film?

I love the way James Franco looks at Gia, he looks genuinely ecstatic and so grateful
He looks like he wants nude Instagram photos
***** yes, i love it too. he is so natural. you cant even know if it's acting or it's genuine. he is a real actor and that look at gia is so priceless
+Cat Mario lmao
jack kilmer? more like jack killme! He's so pretty.
Jude Hansson cleverrrrr
As someone who grew up in the midwest in the middle to upper class environment the reason VICE should be covering this is to show the universal emotions and experiences shared by all young people. The rich kids and the middle class kids are the most emotionally intense people on the planet because when you have no real problems then you can get lost inside of your own mind, and you have to do something crazy to appease yourself. That's what is shown in this film.
He's um kinda beautifully breathtaking lmao
Jack that is
+NotoriousBronny and james
Jack Kilmer looks like Cassie in Skins
Félicia Le Naëlou omg true
Félicia Le Naëlou yes!!
I'm fucking dead best comment ever
WTF THIS IS 2020 AND THATS MY THOUGHT CASSIE IS LIKE JACK OMFG

ur amazing
Respect to james franco for believing in Gia Coppola!
I'm not even from America let alone even California so I'm not aware of how privileged certain kids are from certain areas or whatever and i'm certainly not wealthy (UK uni student living off a government loan, what's up). However I do know why I loved this film so much and it's all down to the aesthetic and simplicity of it all (and Jack Kilmer). It's beautifully shot and although it seems like not a lot happens it perfectly encapsulates how unexciting, confusing and dumb it can be to be a teenager.
I think jack an amazing performance especially since it was his first time acting, he's a natural.
this is a great movie for those wallflower kids in high school.. you know who you are
what the fuck?
@@wernervonhurtsaug ?
Jack Kilmer reminds me of a modern day River Phoenix
Leslie Adase no
omh
Rich people have rich problems, poor people have poor problems. Everyone has issues lol, it's how you deal that shows your character, not what you were born into.
"we should watch basketball diaires" same
After i watched Palo Alto he went straight to the list of my favorite movies, and now if i saw this behind the scenes certainly became my favorite.
Much love involved!
When I read the youtube comments i lose faith in humanity a bit more. So because a teen's rich he/she isn't allowed to be depressed or to have problems ? It's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. I live in a place where there are a lot of privileged teens who can have anything they want, but still, some of them are feeling down most of the time. Money doesn't define how you're supposed to feel or if you can have problems or not. I'm not particularly rich but I have problems and I feel pretty sad at times, just like any other teen from any background can. It's a part of being a teenager : you feel lost, you try to find who you are and your mind is all twisted up. Money can't fix that.
Here’s the thing I am from around the area. I grew up in the hood. I have homies that grew up in East Palo Alto which is a stone’s throw away from Palo Alto. I absolutely have no remorse for these kids. In the end of the day they a have a bed over their head and the safety of their affluent neighborhoods. While myself and my good friends in East Palo Alto were dealing gangs, drive bys, drugs, dope fiends, evictions, gang task force raids, etc. That is something that only people from the gutter will understand.
gia and natt look sooo alike especially when she smiles
this film is so important to me. I heavily relate to April and they capture what its like to be a teenager so well. I love being able to see the process of this movie
now i've seen this video the movie is even better. it's one of my favorite movies and it's ever greater that they did it with so many hard conditions. pure love for palo alto
I LOVE PALO ALTO!!!!!!!!! JACK IS SO CUTIE PIE
Loved the simplicity and aesthetic of this film. Casting was perfect too :)
Gia is so genuine and patient with the cast
Gia looks like the girl version of Nat Wolff!!! 😂
Natalie wolf
I’m a nineteen-year-old aspiring filmmaker from Central Massachusetts and honestly this film is such an inspiration for me artistically. I love films about teenagers and I feel like what James said about teen movies is totally accurate. However, there are very few modern movies that portray the teenage experience with the authenticity that Palo Alto did. I’m also very inspired by what Gia was able to do as a first-time director without a giant budget. Great movie.
looks like a young River Pheonix
hes a cutie
The sound for this behind the scenes was off the chain.
Nat wolff? like the one from The Naked Brothers band?
Go watch the movie Stuck In Love. He's in there too. It's a pretty good movie.
Someone really likes Coconut Records.
I wonder who was originally cast as April
it was zoey deutch i think!
maddie No way was it really ?!
This is my favorite movie. I am so greatly inspired by Gia and James. This film is my comfort and I’m so thankful for its existence. I come back to this video every now and then to see if anyone comes back to it and appreciates it like I do. Thank you so much Gia and James.
when she said " we should watch basketball diares" i was like ... marry me dicaprio♥
its a very well made movie, that has a + if you considere that is a director debut, and a protagonist debut on it.
GIA DID SUCH A FUCKING GOOD JOB WITH THAT MOVIE
This was brilliant. i havent even seen the film yet but i really love their connection and i fully understand how it felt when it all ended. :) wonderful people
such an underrated movie, i love the aesthetic a lot
this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I always come back and watch this video after I rewatch the movie. also one of the best soundtracks
Anyone who says something like "Fuck Palo Alto, it's just about a bunch of rich kids" is totally missing the point of what the film is about. Please watch before you judge.
Sorry as somebody who has friends and lost friends in EAST Palo Alto and the poverty/gang violence that we all went through, I say F*** Palo Alto.
I looooove James Franco
"Tomorrow's our first day, we should probably go to sleep, but fuck it!" Nat please just marry me already!
What is he signing? Palo Alto ......and than he said we should ..etc
This movie looks really good. Oh yeah, and Gia is gorgeous :)
jACK IS SO CUTE WHAT THE HECK !!!

I especially loved the bit when Francis Ford and Eleanor Coppola showed up at the set. The coppolas are all soo supportive of each other
this is so beautiful, thank you VICE
I really did love this film and the book was really good too. Gia Coppola is awesome, following in the same foot steps of her family for sure. The movie gives me that virgin's suicides vibe and I think that's why it makes me love it more especially after watching this. Can't wait to see more of Gia's work
man I love this film so fuckin much.
This movie reminded me of my teenage years. A lot of the heart break, crazy parties, etc.
Gia seems really nice
I loved this, and the movie. Its definitely become one of my favorites
Such a great documentary!! Makes me want to see the movie!
Gia Coppola is Sofia Coppola’s niece. Sofia directed he adaptation of the Virgin Suicides that was released in 1999.
this is so inspiring makes me love and understand Palo Alto in a different perspective.
loved this movie, brilliant! one of my all time favorites.
Loved this movie & the cast-especially the music!
Amazing documentery... It gave me a very similar feeling toward my teenage life now, the emotions seemed to fit the characters that kept me engaged an the entire time I just kept compareing their life to mine, also I liked jack s play in the movie he seemed like a free thinker and you can spot them from a mile away.... good choice Franco
PLUR always
People whining, Vice has plenty of other videos you may enjoy. If you don't like it, stop watching. It's pretty simple.
Wow this made me just as emotional as the actual movie, especially with Nat tearing up when they wrapped filming. Bless these beautiful beings. ♥
there's something going on with gia and franco. match made.
Anticipating the film very much! James Franco is very inspiring and Gia is amazing
I really love this movie. Beautiful movie, James Franco, the director..the actors all of them great work.
gia seems amazing, chill
Lol, they should do a film on the students at the other high school in Palo Alto (Gunn High School).... in my opinion it would be a different story... we are the ones that have a reputation for suicide.
I ADORE THIS FILM
I love he scenes, I love the landscape, l love the photography, I love this movie
this is so lovely
All that hard work payed off
I love the cast in this
this is my favourite video on the internet
I'm really looking forward to this film; it just goes to show that someone will always have it worse or better than you, so you just gotta choose to be happy.
Wow awesome gotta see this
This is such a good movie.
Awesome. I wish more movies showcased the same kind of substance in showing the preproduction/behind the scenes shit like this.
i cried.
genuine, real movie, excited to see it!
Kind of ironic that Franco would play a character that has inappropriate relationships with young girls
or smart marketing move.....
YEAH IT'S KIND OF IRONIC HUH ALMOST TOO IRONIC HMMMMMM. Think about it.
this whole movie is about james's past high school experiences and how most high schools are and just the whole reality of things. he may have not chosen to be the coach so its not like he wanted to play that role or something..
Megan Odom That makes zero sense.
garrett21 Why is it ironic?
I like this documentary more than the film, keep watching it
fav film ever⭐️
Literally in love with gia
Love the movie great team from the Director Gia too all the actors Val, Jack etc it's good to see the other side of the tracks , get tired of the same getto movies working with a small budget isn't easy great job everyone should see this great movie we can all learn something from it. Thank you all for Palo Alto.
ive been wanting to see this

I love the way James looks at Gia. So cute
I read the book and liked it a lot. Can't wait to see the film. It looks promising and seems true to the novel.
this was awesome
This seems like it could be a good movie. I'm definitely going to watch it sometime.
