    Those who not visited Roop Kund can never going to feel and understand the true beauty of the whole trek.. And those who comparing Roop Kund with other 1000 treks are not true nature lovers... Roop kund is truly amazing and even have almost visited every North Indian Glacier and passes but still if someone ask me where you want to go again then without any 2nd thoughts it will be Roop Kund again and again and again...

    What ? The skeletons are not there anymore ? How come? I went to roopkund during Oct of 2010. I have seen skeletons with my eyes inside the lake. Why the hell the skeletons are not there anymore ?

    • @swathichatrapathy9347
      @swathichatrapathy9347 7 років тому +2

      Hi Sunny, the skeletons are not there any more because there is absolutely no restriction or protection in that area. It is not as it used to be where a small group went trekking and came back without leaving a trace. People have been taking away little bits of skeletons as mementos from their treks. It's ridiculous that the guides or people they are coming with don't instruct them not to touch the skeletons.

    Hi Swathi.
    I'm planning roopkund solo trek in coming may. what difficulties could I face? and what precautions should I take?
    can we got the porter at lohajung? if yes, then what will it cost?
    what should be reasonable weight of our backpack?
    on the way to roopkund what is the last spot, where we get meals? Should we take cooking gear with our self?
    can we get the cooking equipments, and crampons on rent in lohajung?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @swathichatrapathy9347
      @swathichatrapathy9347 7 років тому +2

      Hi Paras, you'll find all the details about Roopkund here - roopkund.com.
      To answer your questions briefly though, you can try and find mules and mulemen (not porters) at Lohajung. But May is a busy season for all of them. They rarely cater to solo trekkers during May and June.
      If you're trekking solo, your backpack (with tents, sleeping bags, medical kit, etc) will come up to 12-13 kilos. You should have enough upper body strength to carry that kind of weight.
      I would suggest you take your own cooking gear. But there are dhabas on the way. You'll find dhabas at Rana Ka Dhar, on the way to Ghaeroli Patal and even at Bedni Bugyal.
      If you can find a guide at Lohajung, he'll be able to help you with cooking gear. I don't think you'll find crampons or spikes, but you can find everything else there.
      I would suggest you establish a point of contact before going there, learn of the situation in May and then head there.

    Great video as always.... Can you help me decide which trek to choose between roopkund and rupin pass in late October?

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  6 років тому

      Roopkund is actually out of the picture right now. The high court has banned camping on high altitude meadows, so we cannot run the Roopkund trek without these camps. Rupin Pass is a good option for October though. But it has already started snowing and we don't think it will be crossable very late in OCtober. The earlier you go the better.

    Hi Swathi,
    Just a couple of questions, and one more after that. :P
    1. What are the best 3 treks for November excluding out all the "Difficult" ones.
    2. Is Roopkund a good trek for november?
    3. Many of the treks on the Indiahikes website have no available dates, which is a bummer because I was planning my trips for the next 6 months, so I don't really know whether you guys would even open the trek in that month. I have shortlisted "Har ki dun", "Chandrashila" and "Roopkund" for November. Are all of these open for that month?
    Regards
    Sanyam

    • @swathichatrapathy9347
      @swathichatrapathy9347 7 років тому

      Hi Sanyam, I'll answer your questions below.
      1. The three best treks in November apart from the difficult ones would be Kuari Pass, Sandakphu and Deoriatal. Har Ki Dun also is a good trek in November. If you're up for difficult treks, then Goechala would be an excellent option for the first week of November.
      2. Treks that go to around 16,000 ft in Uttarakhand will have too much snow in November. That's Roopkund and Rupin Pass. We stop running those treks around mid-October. It usually already snows by the end of our season there. So we can't go after that.
      3. We have been running Har Ki Dun and Chandrashila during November all these years. We will most likely run it this year as well, unless the forest department puts some more restrictions. I would suggest you put Kuari Pass above these two though. The views that you get on the Kuari Pass trek must be seen in November.
      In around a month's time, we would have put out the November and December dates for all the treks we will be running. So I suggest you wait it out just a bit more and you'll see the dates on the website. :)

    • @sanyammalhotra58
      @sanyammalhotra58 7 років тому

      Thank you Swathi for the detailed information.
      Regarding Goechala, I would be trekking between November 9 - November 20. Is Goechala a good option then since you mentioned November 1st week.

    • @swathichatrapathy9347
      @swathichatrapathy9347 8 років тому

      If you want to trek in snow on accessible trails, then go for either Kedarkantha or Deoriatal in winter. Most moderate-difficult treks are not accessible in December. The best trek to do solo is Har Ki Dun. Water won't be a problem and the trail is well-marked.

    Hi Swathi

    • @swathichatrapathy9347
      @swathichatrapathy9347 7 років тому +1

      Hi Dikshant, the end of August will still be too rainy. Actually, so will the beginning of September. From mid-September would be the best time to go there. I would suggest Roopkund over Rupin Pass during autumn. The meadows of Bedni and Ali and the forests of Ghaeroli are a pleasing sight at that time of the year.

    • @dikshantverma5388
      @dikshantverma5388 7 років тому

      I can shift it to mid-September. Through searching on the internet i found out that Buran Ghati trek is a great alternative to Roopkund. As i have already been to Buran Ghati and have also heard that Roopkund trek is always crowdy, I don't know if Roopkund would be worth going to ahead of Rupin Pass.

    • @swathichatrapathy9347
      @swathichatrapathy9347 7 років тому

      If you have already done Buran Ghati, then go for Rupin Pass. :) If you are open to other treks, do Pin Bhaba. It is a beautiful trek and very different from most other treks. August and September arr good months to do the trek. :)

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  5 років тому

      Hi Piyush, two things. Roopkund cannot be done right now because there is a ban on camping in the meadows of Uttarakhand. Without Bedni Bugyal as a campsite, trekkers are highly prone to AMS.
      Second thing, Roopkund is not accessible in March because there's too much snow. It has a small two month window in summer where it is accessible -- that's from mid-May to end of June.
      You'll find treks that you can do in MArch here - indiahikes.com/month/march/
