Seeing Joanne makes me remember how much I miss the original HGTV DIY shows. They showed you how to do things without all the histrionics, hype, running around with knee level cameras, cheering sections and bogus "virtual TV" of today's totally fake shows. Today we have entertainment, on the level of WWE phoniness, instead of actual content, presenters, instead of craftsmen.

So refreshing to see a UA-cam video that has in it's title table saw "safety" and you are NOT looking at some soon to be finger amputee, using a TS without any guard in place, and often not even a push stick. Well done, and Bravo.
You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.
I like to make most of my push stick/handles out of scrap laminate flooring, they hold up well.

That brace in in the series where you did narrow strips solves my problem of cutting 1x2's off 2x stock. There has been a problem with drifting and the narrow strip comes out too skinny. I was working from the other side of the blade too. Thanks for that lesson.

Looked to me like she was standing directly behind the blade. No way safe, because if there is kickback, it would go right into her gut. You want to be safe you do not stand inline with the blade, that way any kickback will go past. Just turned 77, never had kickback, took the blade guard and riving knife off my saw when it was new. Always remain slightly scared of my saw, still.

If you don't have an outfeed table, clamp a board upright to a saw horse. Be sure its not too high. You don't want to knock it over.

I keep seeing that interesting hearing protection around woodworkers necks. Does anyone know what brand that it is? It seems more sturdy and well made than the cheap 3M orange ear plugs on a string.

No you find the right feed rate for the blade your using and the wood your cutting. If your using a 40 tooth rip blade on purpelhearr it will feed at a certain rate if your using a 60tooth combo blade it might be slower for the same stock.
Honestly just joint or plane a saw cut edge. Untill you find the feel for cutting speed rate on that blade and wood.

Blade is WAY too high. Only the carbides tips need to clear the wood. Extra height increases danger.

What I dont get is the idea first step in milling rough cut wood is plane one side stright line rip one side the rip opposite side the cut a 10 board down to a working size then true up to finninsh size or glue up?
Why not cross cut leaving stock for finnish cut smoth in planer joint second side and rip other side to match then plane last side or bring down to finnish thicknesses width and length. Then do you journey work. Trying to stright line rip
A 14' 5/4 board that has a long bow in it waste materials. If your making short bonds stright your not cutting away as much stock or if your jointing one edge your not dealing with a 14' chunk of wood to do it. You can mill the shorter parts in a line to keep from. Having snipe.

Andrew Johnson Yep. Joanne Leibler and Dean Johnson and on PBS. Joanne left the show to do comedy if I remember correctly. And I believe Joanne and Robin were the only two female co-hosts to last more than a year or two. I miss “Hometime” and the “New Yankee Workshop”.
Step 1: Buy a really expensive table saw. I'd like to see this guy do accurate rips on a cheap Ryobi.

4" or wider is wrong. Spread your fingers out as wide as you can between a stoped blade and fence thats the narrowest board you should ever cut with you pinky touching the fence always no body part can touch the blade, but you must use a spliter or riving knife.
I dont care if your a pro with 40 years exp. You cant be too safe but you can take unnecessary risks.

5.55 He cuts without plugging the saw back in, which took Jo 2 hnds to plug in and only one to unplug. I hate hollywood.
She unpluged it but never showed...she plugged it in for him!
Blade is way to high for wood thickness.
Prodding sticks does not apply downward and side pressure against the blade and fence. Using another stick to remove the thin cut off piece us dangerous and unnecessary. My technique fulfills the safety without fancy jigs, multiple pushsticks and we never, ever use out hand - fingers to extend toward the zero clearance plate or use it to push wood to the side of the sawblade. Wrong pushstock designs.

7:42 Funny to see a video about "safety" and encouraging use of push sticks, showing you pushing the stock through the saw with your hand. This guy: ua-cam.com/video/fifjjacjLBE/v-deo.html did the EXACT same thing and nearly cut off 3 fingers.
Disliked.
Don't follow this guy's example, people. Everything looks safe when the board acts the way you expect it to, but if it kicks you don't want your hand anywhere near that spinning blade. It WILL pull your hand in a direction you don't expect, and maybe right through its teeth.
