I'm the "banker" here and I'm strict. No kids in the house anymore but we still live fairly frugal. Last year when hubby was off work, we were ok. We have enough in savings to survive for 2 years. When we got our first stimulus, we donated to our church for the food pantry.
We pay ourselves first. Every week $125 from hubby's paycheck goes into savings: $500 a month.

My husband and I each make 6 figures and have no debt. We still live that frugal lifestyle. Our friends always ask why but the answer is easy: we are on track to retire by age 50 😃

6 figures has a wide parameter, from 100,001 to 999,999... big difference when you put it in 6 figures terms is all im saying.. both are still 6 figures.

@@cindy846 my point stands. yours is valid too.
Also, how are you to know why said person is watching a video about budget hacks.. I personally wasn't looking for budget hacks, I watch every video Jordan makes lol. I like her and her family so I enjoy the channel, no matter what it is about.
I wasn't trying to get anyone riled up with my comment. Its just something that irks me when people say. That's it.

Love love love Wealthfront! Also. If you live in the ever-expensive state of California…I budget $150-$200 per person per month for groceries. I kept going over the $100 rule and beat myself up about it. Then I realized it’s not my fault bc prices are higher here than other states and just made my peace with it. We adjusted our budget accordingly. You all got this! :)

Same here. Chicago, expensive...... than I realized to stay on budget would be a very unhealthy for us. So, I still will buy super sweet tomatoes cost us $15 a week because I know my kids will eat them in no time instead of cheap no taste ones nobody would eat. Same avocado, we run 2 of them a day, so expensive, but very healthy. I stop looking at it as spending, but investing in our health. So I do bake bread, I make my own laundry detergent, we are cloth diapering. Not dinning out. There are another ways to safe , but 100 per person doesn't work for our family. So I set up $800 for 5 a month.

We found it worked to each have an allowance. Neither of us have to say what we spent the money on and it can be used for anything. It is nice to be able to buy presents without putting it in the budget and also not having to explain if you buy something frivolous. It does not have to be a big allowance but it is nice to have.

I have to say it is so much easier to have half of the mortgage auto transfer to my mortgage account when we get paid and then have my payment auto draft from that account each month. I never have to worry about having enough money in the account.

How do you budget toiletries? I'm always running out of different items each week so I don't know how to budget for it? Any suggestions?

I live such a frugal lifestyle that I once told a date that I was splurging by taking her to El Pollo Loco. I think living frugally is exciting because it's a day challenge to save as much money as possible. I also do finance videos.

These budgeting tips are great! I am kind of a spendthrift too. I made a deal with my guy that if I save at least five thousand dollars in a savings account in 2022 he will do all my household chores for a month!

I thought in one of your videos you mentioned an App that tracks your inventory and allows you to create meals based on that, but I can't find it. Could you tell me what it is?

We did it the other way around and made sur that all of our bills + 200$ of groceries would be 70% of the MINIMUM monthly income we could get. And keep a stocked up pantry and freezer for shelf cooking. On good months, we double the grocery budget, and so raise fun budget, savings and so on.

Okay I'd love to know what you think is a good grocery budget for a blended family. We grow 3 humans every weekend. So its hard to tell if I should be doing $300 a month for groceries or something more like 600 or 450

I feel banking in the USA is very different to in the UK. I don't need 7 bank accounts because I can do the exact same thing with my one account. I can have up to 10 categories and you can choose one of these as a round-up pot. This means it rounds up to the nearest pound and all the "spare change" goes into your allocated "pot". It works so well.

Tip 2 with the 7 bank accounts I don’t follow, I use a spreadsheet to track money added and put everything into a high interest account so you get more from it. I still have several accounts, but instead of a 1 car fund 2 vacation account... put it in 1, track it, ear more interest.

Put savings out of sight where it is not easy to access helps a lot of people. Plus, some banks have better checking accounts or better savings accounts. Nothing wrong with diversifying to get the most benefits
