  • The Fantome Island Lazaret, in the Palm Island Group off the coast of Townsville, was established for the detention and treatment of non-European suffers from Hansen's Disease, more commonly known as leprosy. Run by the Queensland government, it opened in 1939 and closed in 1973. After its closure, the remnants are still scattered throughout the island painting a picture of what it was like many years ago. With such an ugly history, the surrounding reefs were surprisingly spectacular.

Once again I'm loving the poetry and everything else. UA-cam likes to tell me I haven't finished certain episodes which is a good enough excuse for a reruns. Keen for future episodes and when I start rewatching from the beginning I'll start sharing as well, hope it helps🤘☺️🤟

Love your channel, came here from watching the “Where’s Poppy” channel.
I’m very curious to know your back-story and how you came to own such a nice boat at your young age? Not many can afford a life-style like yours?

It doesn't have to be super expensive to buy a boat, a bit of luck (right place right time) and a lot of work. Generally the more work your willing to put in the cheaper the boat will be. We also live a much cheaper lifestyle then say if you were to buy a house or rent somewhere. Being on anchor we don't pay rent, generate our own electricity and collect our own water and source fresh foods from ocean/islands/ and markets where possible. The main expense is maintenance which can be made much cheaper by planning ahead (having parts on hand when they can be sourced cheaper ) and by cutting labour costs by learning how to do as much as you can yourself or through friends. Doing all this we manage to afford this lifestyle by working regular jobs earning minimum wage. Hope this answers your question, happy to provide more detail if needed ⛵
