Just wanted to say, Im so happy to have your videos back. Thanks Sam. With native tube stock I wish I could of stopped at 20! You should add some kunzea and smaller leaf euc's too.
Ha ha the more you have the better chance of that show stopper. Yeh I think I will venture into the eucs section next time. Also my seeds that have sprouted are different gums 😃
They are doing well mate. I'll do a yard update very soon. Just need a calm day so no wind noise. With hopefully a little cloud cover Buy yes things are getting there 😀
There seams to be a lot more interest in the Australian natives for bonsais. I started trying natives a few years ago, and im definitely heading in that direction also. Cheers for the video mate, and great to see the 3-4 year old stock too.
This is such a great project. I have a dream of having some land and setting up lots of natives for future bonsai - planting at odd angles and setting up for movement down low.
Nice one, I reckon getting some bonsai stock of various eucalyptus varieties going would be great. They're something different and look brilliant as bonsai. Tricky to transfer from the ground too. The brush-cutter eucalyptus is my favourite tree of yours 🤙
Aussie Bonsai Bloke , I’m very similar to you , I’m always collecting seeds and when I’m not doing that I’m doing cuttings propagation and air layering , it’s addictive growing trees and plants , always great watching your videos brother , lol as for the pot plant tags losing them , yes that’s an issue with me as well , I’m sure we are not alone here 😁👍
Cool looking tube stocks. Nice buy from the nursery. With all the cool trees you have, I bet you could start your own nursery featuring some unique trees also. You could call it Sam's Backyard Bonsai Nursery. Trees and Seedlings grown by Sam with you in mind, as an advertisement. Just a thought on that.
I agree about half or more.. Due to the slower growing, you have time to learn and let the tree style itself in a way.. the half that fails most of the time is us Americans with no patients and doing stuff to a bonsai that it's not ready for hoping for a show quality tree over night...haha I was one of those when I started..not that dramatic but still impatiently impatient. But I've learned over the years and still learning.. Ps love ur channel been a follower for a couple years now I believe. And honestly if your well off and you really don't wanna wait you just want an amazing tree..do ur research on daily care on whatever specific tree and then just spend the big bucks and get a show tree already done. Heck even yearly take it back to the bonsai nursery and have them do its maintenance. If u just wanna enjoy the beauty and not do all the work..some people just want the art and that's OK that's why bonsai masters and artists sell their trees from seedlings to show ready specimens. Just get in the Bonsai community and ull fall in love and addicted in a good way.
@@SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke got my seeds from a particular tree thats special to me too. I think that makes it easier to keep interest in keeping them healthy :)
Interesting, potting on an angle, great idea. And it’s so important not to over pot, for the reasons you mentioned and for us in soggy climes so plants don’t sit rotting in masses of cold, wet soil. Rambling on isn’t in it, Sam, it’s all good experience based wisdom n l could listen n learn from you til the cows come home, God bless you and your project 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. 🙋♀️🤍🇮🇱✌️
Good stuff, Sam! Landcare is another great source of stock - often free, too. Certainly how I get a few of mine - ready for some up-potting and on the list for the weekend. I will be interested to see how you go with the A. howitii - I have a couple but they are (very inconveniently) not the weeping variety, so wont fit the initial plan I had for them . . . Ah well, I will just have to change the plan, I guess. I have sent you an email, but not heard anything - I have something to send you that is very apropos of this video!
Wow good stuff and thanks for the extra info. I wonder if mine is the weeping. Might have to start another plan also 🤔 Oh crap I will check email. Sorry Thanks for the support 🙏
VERY informative Sam, some really good tips there... 👍 Can you talk to my missus to see if she will let me bring more potential bonsais into the back yard , she says I’ve got enough 😳
Mmm. So first pot went as expected. Not very good pot making maybe just a pass. Painting mm. Definitely flunked out. Was a super fun experience though and would go again in a heartbeat. As far as pots for good trees well I'll just pay luke 🤣
I collect seeds and cuttings and am always growing things for possible bonsai. I bought tubestock from Wildtech nursery a couple of years ago. Not as cheap as what you got, but it was a good way for me to get a variety or bottle brush. The only problem with my 'growing' habit is that now I have hundreds of trees in pots, and I need to get rid of some. I think if I could get rid of 200 trees i might have a manageable amount. I did make a couple of videos on youtube a year or so ago. I probably have 50/50 native and exotics. If you are ever in vic they are free to a good home.
Had a look at your vid on your channel and was very impressed with how many you have and how few weeds. That must be one he'll of an effort to manage 😃😃
Hee hee. I used to spend all day in the garden but Ive been sick since that video and things have gone crazy out there. Weeds everywhere and I doubt I could move any of the pots because all the roots have gone into the ground. When I get back to gardening it is going to take a few weeks of 9 to 5 to get it back in order. I guess having a reason to go out in the garden will help with getting me fitter. 😅
Hey mate. The gum or melaleuca nuts will look older but still green and full of moisture. Not the shrivelled ones and not the super fresh ones. As soon as they are cut they will start to dry and 3 weeks or so later release all their seed out the front. Enjoy your collecting 😀
Thanks Sam, this was very helpful as I'm trying to grow some natives
Glad it was helpful!
Picked up a bottlebrush today. Thanks for the inspiration, Sam. Cheers mate!
Nice one!
Loving what you do Sam for the aussie native trees. Your an inspiration thankyou

Aussie Bonsai Bloke announces spring 2024 in Australia, yay

you're strong on native trees thanks
Thanks for watching 😃
Aussie Dave here Sam, I do the thing 😀. But I use a white out pen and write the name of the tree on the pots 😊
Good idea on the pen mate 👍 👌
Great project! 👍 keep spreading Australian natives bonsai.
Cheers mate

All those used tube pots are good for putting in your seedlings that grew from seed for you.
Nice updates at the end. Trees are growing really well for you.
Wise thoughts on the right size pot for the tree. Excellent!
Great info! Definitely something people can do anywhere!
After watching this I went to my local and got 20 tube stock natives. Appreciate you Sam glad to see you back posting great content 🙏🇦🇺
Awesome mate. Enjoy 😀

growing my own tube-stock from seed too :) mostly melaleuca lanceolata. Youre doing some great work!
Awesome stuff mate. Great work. Fun journey that's for sure.

Just hide them in between the other trees. As you pot them up hopefully she doesn't realise 😃😃
👍👌🙂
I hear you’ve been making bonsai pots Sam. Give us a look when it’s fired please.

To bad the nursery did not have a Eucalyptus tree for you to try out.
They do but didn't get any this trip 😀
