Again... thank you Stephen. You are performing a valued service for us 'oldies'. Obviously a 'labour of love' on your part!
Thanks Ken, it is a labour of love so that when oldies like us are gone these videos will show the younger ones what has happened to our town.
PS Tanks a Million Stephen.
I really enjoyed all 16. Good job. I think all the old pictures of Boro look better than it is now.
Thank you Garry, there will be more videos posted every couple of months.
@@BigMack1959 thanks can't wait. You should branch out and do different areas around north east n Yorkshire.
I don't have any transport Gary and like a lot of folk at the moment a very limited budget.
Mrs B H ... I can't help but grieve for once was..!
This photo makes my day "Starline Clothing" that wos my business premise started in 1972. There was about 24 Fantastic!!! sewing machinists , not to mention the Tea lady, and othe staff workin below street level in what was the hard wear department of the Co OP We made clothing for Dorita/Eastex/Marks and Spencer / Jeans./others.. My love go`s out to all my girls back then xxxxx
A couple of things I notice in all of these great videos...
1. Beautiful old, solid buildings with character being replaced with flat, soleless concrete blocks.
2. Not many folk from the Windrush era and the likes of...
nice work Stephen it just shows how many lovely buildings we lost.
Thanks, yes lovely building replaced with ..........................
Always a highlight, love your work Stephen, the next best thing to a time machine.
Keep them coming.
Thanks, yes these slideshows really do instantly show the changes,
A very melancholic walk down memory lane. How many more face lifts can the old girl take.
Sadly a town which has been gradually losing it's identity 😥
Breaks your heart remembering how the Boro was and the loss of so many fine buildings. The idiotic council has swept away our history.
It does Phillip , and what makes it worse is that people have been paid good money to make these decisions.
can anyone remember the name of the old hippy store in newport road where they built the bus station. .in the early 70s, it had old wooden floorboards ,everyone bought levis and wranglers from there
Yung Carnaby ?
@@BigMack1959 thanks for that ste, been racking my brain for days 👍
@@jeffo6514 you're welcome Jeff, I believe it was owned by Bari Chohan.
thanks ste, me and my brother used to go in there, im 62 now but i can still picture it in my head. 👍
Same age as me Jeff I have a photo of that shop somewhere in my files but can't attach it to comments in UA-cam.
This should be titled "Vandalism in the Distopian World" ...
It's amazing how we bulldozed grand buildings in order to replace them with cheap modernist ones.
After WW2 that was the fashion, we had influential modernist architects like Erno Goldfinger and the infamous John Poulson who disliked the ornate but elegant Victorian and Edwardian architecture and wanted to give us the brave new brutalist world of concrete and steel. Bond author Ian Fleming hated the architect Erno Goldfinger's work so much that he names a Bond villain after "Auric Goldfinger".
Kinda depressing to look at won't lie old Boro looked way nicer
Sorry Pod, but I can only show things as they are now 😞
@@BigMack1959 great work tho keep it up
@@BoneSoldier0 Thank you, there will be more coming.
