Couple updates...I got confirmation the Ford adapter is the same sku as the Rivian adapter. And regards to finding chargers it's already built-in to the Tesla nav but on the web you can find them here: www.tesla.com/findus?v=2&bounds=33.000658951224814%2C-116.57838708829986%2C32.54455540488169%2C-117.56715661954986&zoom=11&filters=nacs%2Cdelivery%20centers
How’s the account set up work? How does billing work? Come on…
All automatic through the Rivian app
@@BenSullinsOfficial Did u mean that it's "built-in to the Tesla nav" as you state above, or did u mean that it's "built-in to the Rivian nav" which is far more useful?
We are so excited for this transition and so glad we could help out with your first NACS charge! Can't wait to see even more EV variety at Superchargers! - Liv
You were very kind to let Ben use your adapters. The J3400 rollout is looking good!
Did you guys showed him the parking etiquette diagram you created so that he can spread the word?
Love your Mach-E Vlog channel. I subscribe there even though I'm a Tesla owner and I have no Fords! Awesome to see you and Ben working together here.
so cool to see you guys with Ben!
Now Ben just needs to get a pizza oven like Tom for a REAL charging party!
As a 2021 Tesla Model 3 LR owner, I am in support of Tesla Superchargers opening up to CCS1 port owners and future native NACS/J3400 port owners.
My only concern is many CCS1 EVs have their port located in such a way that two spaces will be taken up in most cases in order for them to charge.
I feel non-Tesla vehicles should update their future production of vehicles to have their port in a more compatible location.
There aren't very many non-Tesla vehicles on the road right now. This is the time to make the change. There are many V2 and V3 Superchargers. It's a win-win-win-win (Tesla Owners, Non-Tesla Owners, auto-manufactures, and Tesla through the increase in usage and installations of the Supercharger network).
Rivian, lets go! Put your future R1S/R1T/R2/R3 NACS ports on the front right or rear left. The reason RJ gave about going NACS but still having the port in an incompatible location for Supercharging was that existing customers who have home Level 2 charging may not be able to plug their vehicles in if the port moves is short-sighted. Unless they have 6-8ft cables, it should be no problem to plug in at home with a regular length Level 2 cable. Most are 16-24ft.
Agreed! I think front right (passenger side) would be a great place for most EV ports as it would allow for both charging at a supercharger without taking up an extra space AND curbside charging in most countries. Hoping Rivian and other automakers make the switch with future models. It’s a great day for the EV movement! 🙌
its fine. Just do like what other places in the world do. Segregate by having majority of the non teslas port location cars grouped together. that way a site will only have 1 podium being blocked.
The Tesla adapter does a handshake and communicates with an on-board temperature sensor, bit if it can't communicate you may be limited to 150 or 125kw, so for some it may not be that big of an issue. Bolt owners for example won't even notice.
As a Tesla owner, welcome to the Super Charger network! I hope this makes EV adoption easier and can't wait to see NACS ports on Rivians!
The biggest question I had, you answered... which is if you had to do something extra (asside from the adapter) to charge. The answer is no. Not like you had to enable something on an app on a per-charging session, or authoriz a payment type each time you charge. I am happy that it works as seemless as it does for a Tesla owner.
Yup, one-time setup in FordPass app or Rivian account for payments, supporting Plug&Charge, just like Tesla you need to register credit card in the app/your account for payment.. ONCE. After that, ... plug & charge and go... easy peasy, just like Tesla.
EXCEPT: I think, if you are subscribing to $13/mo Tesla charge membership for 30% price reduction (same as Tesla users), I think you still have to auth using the app, not your Ford/Tesla account... that is similar to EA charging, also (plug&charge supports the car only, not any charge provider membership discounts?)
Coooool! That was nice of Liv and Patrick to let you use their collection of adapters! High five to all three of you! I hope my EV will get the green light soon -just in case I drive somewhere that only has Superchargers within range.
We were so happy to help out! These are exciting times! Can't wait for everyone to get access! - Liv
5:30 I hope that Rivian owners do their best efforts so they dont take up two charging stalls to charge their car.
That will only happen if the end spot is open. Otherwise yes Rivians will always take up two spots.
The adapter makes Ben's trips to Phoenix super easy. No more stressing about Quartzsite with the giant 84-stall V3 Supercharger.
There is also a RAN station there
Yea for MachE Vlog~ Also for Rivian too
Very cool! I placed a deposit on a Rivian R2 last week and while that’ll come with NACS built in, I’m glad to see Rivians being able to charge at supercharger stations now. Thanks for the great video Ben! More EVs, hybrids, and plug in hybrids are exactly what we need for a more sustainable future. Let’s go! 🙌🏾
How do you like Rivian so far? I’m really considering it right now. It’s between this and Tesla!
Heck ya thanks for doing this for us!
i think the ford adapter is the same that rivian provides
Designed by Tesla and will get shipped to all the NACS partners
This is epic. I'm reviewing the EV9 on my channel now. But impressed with Rivian!!
❤️ the EV9
Always enjoy your posts! Quick question and I may have missed it…. How did you pay for these 2 specific charging sessions with the two adapters? Does the Rivian communicate directly with the Tesla SC and knows it’s you?
Thanks again
Yeah the adapter doesn’t matter. It just charged my rivian account
SHEEEESH. Nice BEN!
Welcome to the supercharger club! My next vehicle won’t be a Tesla now, Rivian R3X here I come!
Very good that this is happening but i am very concerned about the cable issue Tesla in a statement asked the Car makers to locate the charging port to Back left on new vehicles to make it easy and seemless for the costumers and the Rivian CEO in a Video i saw said that it shouldnt be Teslas "monopoly" on the charging port location but i dont understand that. They were so good to open up the Network they build over a Decade for free and still there are trying to never mention Tesla or even thanking them and then saying we will be putting our Charging Port the way we want instead of making it easy for the costumer they just want to fuck up Tesla.
Big W for EV adapters. Thanks Tesla.
The adapters should work but if the quality is bad then that might be an issue. Ensure the adapter's pins make proper contact and that it does not get hot due to a bad connection.
How do they charge non-Tesla users? Like as in how would they pay?
Automatic in the Rivian app
Ben, I appreciate the video! As an R1T owner I’ve noticed there’s many Tesla supercharger stations that still label “incompatible” when you look through the R1T network list, and select a Tesla Supercharger. I haven’t been able to get a straight answer from Rivian on why. They aren’t magic dock, but they also don’t say “Adapter Required”. Would you possibly have any ideas? Thanks!
Not sure the reason why, but what I heard was the only chargers that are supported are the V3 and V4 versions. Even if there's a mix of V2 and V3 it won't work. I'm guessing something to do with the plug and charge system but not sure.
@@BenSullinsOfficial that’s as close to what I thought but, you’re much smarter so I was hoping I was wrong! Haha. Thank you! Have a great weekend, and take care.
Will the Rivian navigation eventually get support to show Tesla superchargers when routing far distances? Or are you having to use the Tesla app for that?
it already does
Of course it works, it’s Tesla. The CCS companies are probably crapping their pants. Who will go back to CCS stations?
Are you being charged for the charge?
So with the switch to the Tesla chargers, does that mean soon every EV is going to be reliant on Tesla to install more chargers? Or are we going to see other chargers with the same plug? Is EVgo going to add that port to there chargers?
EVGo already has a NACS (tesla) port at most of their stations. But I doubt it will slow down other networks at all. If anything as Tesla loses market share the need for them will increase.
Both. All model EVs and most charge providers are all switching to NACS, new chargers *should* have tesla plugs... but not sure when/how many.
I'm sure Tesla will hugely outstrip the other providers in installing more chargers, faster and bigger and more reliably, as already done...
it will be a question how fast/many V4 chargers (longer cables) they start building in US though, so far, barely any. Lots more V3 going in...
2 stalls needed?
Except in pull through stalls, But Tesla chargers are so rarely above half full it doesnt matter that much. The Rivian and Ford parking next to each other would take up 3 stalls but charge 2 vehicles so I assume the 2 stall thing won't become a problem.
Welcome to the Super Charger network! Its cheaper and always works!
Please note that Tesla has opened oven 15,000 ports/stalls in North America, not the 2,000 plus mentioned here. Tesla overall has over 25,000 stalls in North America. They are slowing opening up more and more V3 stations as the transition goes along. They want to make sure that usually busy sites do not overburden their Tesla owners and create confrontational situations.
What's truly needed for non-Teslas drivers are those remote locations where it's a charging desert for non-Tesla drivers or they have charger anxiety with half of the only 4 CCS stalls there usually not working.
Please note. All fords All Rivians ALL VW etc will take 2 stalls to charge. That will endanger the viability of this plan. The requirement should be, put the charger port where Tesla does. The Superchargers were designed for the charger port configuration, on a Tesla. I don't mind sharing. Just apply the same rules, e.g. omly use one stall.
@@orienteqbano If all non-Teslas park next to each other and take the stall to their left; while Teslas do the opposite on the other side of the site, only 1 (or 2 at the most) stall will be lost in all even if the rest are all full.
While I agree with you that manufacturers from now on need to place their ports on either the front right or the rear left,(which is why Rivian is hurting itself, and will likely fail, by not doing that on their next models) I don't mind at all that others charge at Superchargers. And I've yet to meet a Tesla owner that minds. We are all in this together.
@@orienteqbano Tesla is replacing the charging cables with longer cables to reduce this issue, also they are going to sell an extension cable. Already the cybertruck struggles to charge with v3 cables, they are a little shorter.
My hope is that no issues will arise from opening up the network. We will see how the rollout occurs.@@lattelandlatteland
Try the other adapter. Maybe because it is the Ford one. Because some other channel tried other other adapters that didn't come from Tesla or was not made by them. Maybe it won't work. I saw some other people tried and didn't work. Though they were using a Ford vehicle so maybe that's a factor as well.
how does billing work? do you need the tesla app or is it all through your rivian account?
Rivian account, no added steps
I think you need to use the Tesla app if you have a membership to get the lower pricing.
Another win for TESLA
Where oh where can I buy this adapter?!? I have a 2024 Chevy Blazer EV. This link shows one for almost $200. Ate there cheaper?
No that's the only third party one. It won't work on your Chevy yet until they enable it on the software side. Should be soon from what I hear.
@@BenSullinsOfficial Oops... I just ordered it. I do hope Chevy will get it going soon. Thanks Mr. S., u da best!
How does the billing work??
You have to have a credit card on your rivian account, and then it does plug and charge automatically.
How did you get to the screen on your Rivian for the QR code, I can’t find it.
Software update
Can you cover how billing works ?
It shows up the Rivian account. Didn't have to do any setup, it just worked like magic
Oh holy day!
Here in Europe, all Tesla cars and almost all other EVs use CCS since day 1. The S in CCS means Standard, and the Tesla Superchargers had to CCS plug since day 1 as well. There is no valid reason for any change towards any other non-standard plug or charge port in the European market.
Well gl to all the Tesla drivers for finding a charging spot after this update 😂
“This is the future” even with an adapter and restricted access, but can’t disagree. Just shows how far behind non-Tesla fast charging really is. This is a much needed win for consumers and EV adoption.
Ad a Tesla owner and investor I approve this message. Now that we have adopted J3400 as the standard hete in yhe UD we should also band together and petition manufacturers to put their charging ports on yhe back left of yhe car/truck or yhe front passenger section. Make these changes ubiquitous and not only will charging be open to mote non Tesla vehicles but there were be less clutter at yhe stalls.
onya!
Apr 26 and still no adaptor from Rivian
Hey now, GM was second in accepting NACS then it was Rivian. So why did Rvian got to switch sooner. Such BS.
Having to block the spot next to the charger is such an extremely stupid design and is going to cause issues at high traffic chargers. They should have released an extension cable at the same time.
“Fight the powers that be…”…I see you Chuck D!!
🙌🏾👊🏾😄
All you need now is have a coffee maker and a taster or taster oven with you to have some fresh coffee and hot pastries while you charge and make friends.
Video idea!
Sweet. Hope the stock price starts to reflect the fact there is no other mass charging infrastructure besides tesla.
Khruangbin ❤
Tesla chargers are only chargers I'd trust .
I think Tesla would be good to make a 3-D printer
Will non-Tesla vehicles pay more?
In the UK, non-Tesla vehicles pay a higher rate. However, you can purchase a “Supercharging Membership”, currently £10.99/month, for non-Tesla vehicles to get the same rate as Tesla vehicles.
Yes, seems about 30% more, but can get $13/mo membership that sets back to tesla user prices. May have to use Tesla app to start charge sessions for that pricing
There is going to be alot of upset telsa folks. Lame that it takes up 2 chargers. They need to fix that asap
I ordered a2Z. They say 15 to 20 business days.
It worked even faster than the FORD one.
@@honesty_-no9he Looks like they edited out a few seconds so the viewer wouldn't have to wait the full 20 sec. The adapter has nothing to do with the "handshake", it's a simple pass through connector.
However other countries do not have these options. Until every country has these options then you can rejoice.
The fact that Rivian started over a decade after Tesla and put the charging port on the wrong side then begging Tesla to use its network is ridiculous
Charging is the biggest hindrance in getting the masses to convert to EV, and Tesla was the only charging network that was both easy to use and reliable. Electrify America has been notoriously inconsistent in charging easy, quality, and reliability. Being able to use the Tesla network is not only great news, but hopefully will spur Electrify America and others to up their game to both expand their network and their quality. The power of the consumer is when capitalism is best. Let's go!
Great video 👍
They ADDED ANOTHER HEADACHE!
IF they want to USE TESLA SUPERCHARGER, their Charging Port must be in "REAR DRIVER SIDE" or "FRONT PASSENGER SIDE".
I've encountered an almost a fist fight here in TEXAS, when a Ford MACH E & Rivian R1S occupied 4 SLOTS.
(I own Tesla S & X, then waiting for my Cybertruck)
The best part is, the owners of those 2 vehicles was SMIRKING & RUDE.
IF TESLA wants EVERY EV use their CHARGING STATIONS, they SHOULD make a MANDATORY RULE that they can only use it IF they will change their charging port to "Rear Driver Side" OR "Front Passenger Side", period.
No thank you stay on your own network
You're speaking as if you have any control 🫠 whomp whomp :(
“They want you to use theirs for whatever reason”…. For ffs. If you can’t think of reasons why they want you to use an approved adapter they have tested when it’s capable of passing 500AMPS you need to get an education.
Hilarious to hear you talking about Tribes and Kumbaya when you caused so much of the divisiveness
Also it’s CCS1 dude, not CCS2.
You are correct, but don't have to be as rude/critical..
@@cgamiga he doesn’t deserve any kindness
Do you think Tesla is also taking information from Rivian owners while charging ? 🫣
