I’ve gotta say, this is the first video I’ve seen from you and I immediately subscribed simply because I actually really like your photography. Your review on the lens is great, but many reviews are great, however I rarely come across a lens review where the sample images go beyond just showing what the lens can do and actually inspire me to want to take better photos. Your use of flash, the composition, it’s all very impressive. When you said you use a 24mm for portraiture I thought you were about to show some horrible distorted head shots but then your shots blew apart my worldview that just moments ago said “Only 85 to 135 for people photos!” I’ve got this lens in transit now and the plan was just vlogging with it, but now I’m going to give it a whirl for portraits. Thanks for sharing all this
I just watched a review of the Sigma 12-24mm f4 Art, and that's definitely a good lens if you want low distortion and low coma. Just as an alternative...
Nick, any experience with video with that lens? I picked one up and the AF motor noise is ridonculous! (...and I am using a Rode VideoMic Pro+ ). I dono if it's just my copy or its a common thing with this lens.
Pye Jirsa from slrlounge.com stopped using Sigma lens. He said over time they start missing focus and then you have to mirco adjust the lens. As of right now Pye Jirsa went back to all Canon lens. Its one of slrlounge.com newest videos on thier Facebook page its called 3 Favorite Lenses for Bridal Portraits he talks about his issues with Sigma.
I certainly want to, its starting to get pretty long in the tooth, and I hate watching it haha. this summer when the milkyway pops up, I will do a refresh on all things night sky
***** yep, I shoot it all year long and its better in the spring I agree.. its more about when clear skies line up with new moons.. often in the spring its tough to get a clear night here in the northwest.
Is the Sigma 24mm 1.4 ART alot sharper than my 50mm 1.8 STM? Alot of my photos end up looking dull, and I try my best to shoot in the golden hour with high shutterspeed and as little ISO as possible and shoot at f5.6 for maximum clarity. I do shoot in RAW, and I edit it them with Lightroom, crank up the texture and clarity to a point where it still looks natural. But it still isn't the sharpness my eye want. I shoot with my EOS 200D, could this be the potential limit for my camera? Would a new lense like this 24mm take sharper photos for me? I am a bit nitt picky when it comes to sharpness and clarity. My pictures are "okay" they just need that little extra ounce of "Umph" to them.I should mention, I tried Ai Sharpness, but it would sharpen areas in my photos that were supposes to be blurred out "Bookeh" and that looks really weird.
I agree, great lense! Tried it on different cameras. Works really well with Nikon D7200 (APS-C) in nature shoots. Get the objects a little closer (36 mm focal lenght) Solid. Worth putting in the bag!
To correct the coma distortion, I would recommend stopping down to F2.8. Maybe you were shooting at F2.8, but I've heard that helps. Anyway, great video as always. I love your astrophotography videos, looking to make some of my own.
I just got myself this lens for Canon mount. I must say, the autofocus is so noisy that it's basically unusable for videos! Am I the only one having this issue? could it be a problem with my lens? thanks in advance!
well its not that its a front or back focusing issue, it was spot on for all easy scenes, but when photographing a low contrast scene or a scene with backlight the lens just... missed. It seems to require more contrast and sharp edges than some other lenses.
mostly landscape. But i also like to shoot a bit city/street/people. Shooting with a 6D+17-40 f4 + 50 1.8 and a 70-300 I'm struggeling which art lens would fit the best in my setup at the moment. And i'm also trying to upgrade the 17-40 f4 to the 16-35 f2.8 (but this is a future project)
personally I would go with either a 20mm or a 24mm. Something significantly wider than the 50mm which you already have. the sigma 20mm is a really killer lens with a ton of positives
Thanks Nick. I personally see myself zooming a lot with my 17-40 f4 ... that's why i was asking about the 35mm. But i think i'm going with the 24mm 1.4 Do you have a comparison between the 20mm and the 24mm - build and picture quality wise?
+Q trust me I do lots with my 70-200 as well but I love environmental portraits... and for those I prefer wide.... some of my best shots are done at 16mm's!

Love your reviews man! It's so weird that you only got this much subscriptions with such wonderful stuff
Nick your photos are amazing, and your a huge inspiration. Keep up the great videos!
thanks for the kind words man!
Excellent review!!! Thank you for taking the time to evaluate the Sigma 24mm for us
Best review I ever seen for this lens

Any chance of doing another dedicated astrophotography video? Your astrophotography is amazing and I would like to see more if you're up for it!
I certainly want to, its starting to get pretty long in the tooth, and I hate watching it haha. this summer when the milkyway pops up, I will do a refresh on all things night sky
Nick Page We will all look forward to it

Wish you would have compared the sigma to the canon 24 mm mk ii instead of original version.
great review. hit on every question i had about the lens 🤛
Thanks.

And this is how king were born!
Great Review. Bought this lens for my A7iii yesterday, very happy with it.
ericthestone is it good for landscape photography ?
@@radee7 the lens is exceptional sharp and minimal distortion, it will be good for landscape, unless you need wider than 24mm.
How about canon ef 24mm f/1.4 L II?
Sigma or Rokinon for Astro?
Nick, have you had a chance to try the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art yet? Would love to hear your thoughts
I have a video on it!
I just got myself this lens for Canon mount. I must say, the autofocus is so noisy that it's basically unusable for videos! Am I the only one having this issue? could it be a problem with my lens? thanks in advance!
thanks for sharing!
hi, why don´t you use the sigma usb dock to eleminate the focus problems ??
Regards Rolf
well its not that its a front or back focusing issue, it was spot on for all easy scenes, but when photographing a low contrast scene or a scene with backlight the lens just... missed. It seems to require more contrast and sharp edges than some other lenses.
well, i´ve got this lens almost a year and never had any such problems...it´s fast even with low light or missing contrast on a 5 d mk iii.
Rolf Schlier I agree its a great lens, i only ran into issues when dealing with backlighting situations which i tend to shoot in alot
Great review thanks
to you get your hands on the 35mm 1.4?
kinda depends on what you shoot, and what your other lenses are.. what is your current lens setup?
mostly landscape. But i also like to shoot a bit city/street/people.
Shooting with a 6D+17-40 f4 + 50 1.8 and a 70-300
I'm struggeling which art lens would fit the best in my setup at the moment.

Which 16 35 exactly do you use. Thanks
This is a super old video. I now use the Sony 16-35 f2.8 GM
May I ask, would this lens be great for recording UA-cam videos in my room with a creamy bokeh?
On a canon system yes!
Nick Page I have a canon SL2!
Thank you very much!
What camera are the photos?

I'm a self proclaim professional photographer too. 24mm anything is just not visually pleasing for portraits. Especially as close as you were.
+Q trust me I do lots with my 70-200 as well but I love environmental portraits... and for those I prefer wide.... some of my best shots are done at 16mm's!
