- I got a sub-25-minute run several years ago but shortly thereafter my CRT monitor died and I also lost the original footage. Came back to try again only to see that LITERALLY TODAY somebody else posted the first "official" sub-25 run to speedrun.com. I got lucky and beat that run by 1 second. Still significant room for improvement, especially by cleaning up Stage 6.
Played on an actual console (RGB modded for improved video quality), captured on an epiphan DVI2USB capture device, recorded using really old recording software (ShowShifter), then upscaled to 720p (for improved quality on youtube) and timer added for frame-perfect timing alignment with speedrun.com timing rules using VirtualDub. More precise time was a 24:47.4. Time begins at the exact moment the first playable screen begins to display and ends when the computer takes over the end game (to be exact, when the "W" from the "Winner: None" displays on the screen.
one of the best games on NES
Highly underrated. It was hard as nails, I never actually beat it, literally got really close to the final computer but just couldn't get there unfortunately. Still, somehow even as a child I appreciated games that kicked my ass and forced me to "get good" lol (Man the soundtrack slaps so hard too, I always loved the "ninja turtles" string/percussion/whatever sound that is). Also crazy to think (at least according to Wikipedia) this game never got a Japanese release despite being made in Japan. Sometimes I guess people like me in the US/EU were the lucky ones sometimes and sometimes Japan missed out on good games too!
Mad respect. Watching you finish the bulk of level one on just one bar of energy was nail-biting.
Some of the enemies doesn't hurt you even though they clearly touch you, such as the robot from first mission and lasers, too. You enhanced the game.
Enhanced the game? Are you suggesting I cheated?
@@retro-computing-gaming couldn't said it better.
@@ZARATUSTRA1780 Go learn the game's mechanics before accusing others of cheating.
So the last boss is the computer from War Games with Matthew Brodrick?
Congratulations For SpeedRun
This game was hard..level 3.....and level 6 which went on forever.
Insanely hard but awesome NES game!
I went to the end entered mtkn as well but didnt know what to do after that
Thanks ❤
Wouldn't it be a downer if you forgot the MTKN password after reaching the final computer on the final level?
Happened to me
The REAL downer was when I was 6 fucking years old with no internet and close to zero English knowledge. I had no idea where to get the password lol
19:27 It looks like you found a glitch to bypass the auto-scrolling level containing the flamethrowers.
Yep - somebody told me about this in the comments section of my old run.
Great skills.....
I used to spend all day on this game... maybe 8 hours huahuahua
