    I was on the Keto diet and I also cheated It was worth it at the time but my wife found out it was with our neighbor and she filed for Divorce so definitely cost a lot in the long run

    I did keto for 6 months in 2017 and I would have a cheat day every Sunday. I started my cheat day after 21 days of dieting. It didnt affect me at all, I went from 225 to 173 lbs.

      I was worried at Easter because my family decided they were going to do a pasta bar. It ended up being ok - there was enough meat and I found a low carb cheese sauce and used the skinny (or miracle) noodles.

    Honestly, I could NOT have made it on this lifestyle without my Sunday cheat days. I've been low carb for 5 months and I'm down 60 pounds. It helps for me to know that I must be strict 6 days a week and that I'll be able to have a donut or a papaya on the seventh day. I did this from the beginning and never gain. I just start back up and have lost steady. I don't have a binge, just a treat. Yesterday I had frozen yogurt...yum! Today (actually down a pound) I'm back to salmon, asparagus, and marinated mozzarella..equally yummy! It's all about balance for ME, I can NOT speak on what will work for others.

      Eating 5 percent of the time is always better then eating bad 95. My whole family are retarded and overweight and told me oh if you eat one thing bad in a whole week of eating perfect and less it basically was for nothing. That is insane people belive this. Like woah I ate one donut after eating tons of veggies the whole week now I should just eat 500 carbs.

      Well even if you never get fully fat adapted just the fact that you have cut out excessive carbs and sugar from your diet on most days is going to have tremendous health and weight benefits.

      First congratulations! Second, I don't consider one little treat a "cheat day". A cheat day would be an all day binge at the State Fair. I try to limit my cheats to a single meal.

    I went 3 and a half months before cheating, I was going to have a cheat weekend, it turned into a week. After I started feeling like crap again, it was easy to go back to keto

      I plan on cheating for a week (6 days) for my birthday since I'm going to Portland after being on keto for more than a month. I am just so worried about the impact it'll make on my health. I still plan on eating two meals a day and not going TOO far since I tend to binge.

      Ellie G honestly Ellie I’m sorry to say to have been on keto for alittle over and month and you’re going to have a six day cheat will totally reset everything you’ve done to this point. I know in life food involves every aspect of our lives - fun, celebrations, etc - but to be on this diet you have to be committed. Just because it’s your keto doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate alittle but you have to work around the boundaries. You can’t eat sweets but maybe settle for a quest bar as a dessert have a glass of red wine. You can’t eat pasta but go to a nice steak house get a big ribeye with cream spinach. Keto to me is a lifestyle change. You can cheat maybe a strong two months or three months down the line and have a cheat meal but to really get tonur goal there has to be sacrifices

      That seems fine if you went without cheating 3+ months. Especially if you can go back to your routine after. Personally, I never cheated when I was on keto for 3 years, but my reasons for being on keto were not weight loss. It was for health issues. Illness. I didn’t have an option to cheat. I was also a kid so I eventually forgot what I was missing. I was out of it most of the time even on the diet so really it wasn’t the same as your experience.

    Cheated! Felt like crap for a couple of hours! Lesson learned! Worth it? No! Four hours after my meal blood sugar 91. I will not cry!

    Thank you Brett for the information. I have been full ketosis for just over 6 months now for my natural bodybuilding comp season and i am loving it. I ended up cheating on the weekend for the first time in 6 months and was trying to justify what i have done! I am not proud or happy i did it but I feel ok about it now when reading up about it. Any more tips and hints about cheat meals and how much carbohydrates to intake if cheating would be greatly appreciated. I almost want to try carb load for my next show as my muscles feel very full and dry after cheating

    This was explains it! 2 weeks ago I had a cheat meal as my friend was leaving town so we all went to a pizza place and I had 2 or maybe 3 slices. By then, I had been on the keto diet for almost 2 months and I was surprised my weight loss and stuff kept on going.

    After a higher than ideal amount of carbs on Keto, I would suggest one makes time the next day (or that same day) to workout or go to the gym for 30mins or hour and hit the elliptical or whatever... do some cardio.

    7 weeks into Keto and I feel that I am Keto adapted remaining under 50g of carbs everyday. I think about cheating when I reach 12 weeks but I honestly feel great on this diet and my appetite it much lower and energy levels are stable. I may put off cheating for longer.

    I have found the most success by combining the keto diet with fasting. I do a 23 hour fast with a one hour eating window. I will usually have some sort of seafood, steak, or lamb. I have found that this leads to rapid weight loss. Because my body is always in a constant state of ketosis and in and out of autophgy, which allows old cells to be broken down and recycled into new cells. I have noticed that my sleep has improved, my weight is going down, and I have much more energy.

    I've been strictly eating keto for 2 months, today I gave in.. fast food burger, fries, chocolate chip cookies and white rice with dinner. I just needed a break and some comfort foods today. Im finding it difficult to shelter in place without some carby carbs. It feels heavenly to eat these foods but I know this can be today only or I will regret it. Tomorrow back on the keto train.

      Dylan McCarthy-Daniels I read about that, and it says "If your primary goal is to lose weight, cheating on your keto diet from time to time is not going to destroy your progress. Even if it kicks you out of ketosis." So it's fine i think ive been on keto for 1 month and a half and i will have a cheat meal after 7 days cause UGH im sick

      @@bonesmcgee1568 Honestly, I have not been able to stay on strict keto since. It's not just cravings that make it difficult, it's also life changes, circumstances and lost motivation. I keep trying and I'm not giving up and going whole hog on carbs, but getting back to that strict keto just hasn't happened.

      @@bookmaid1 I'm at about a month and half of taking another shot at being really strict with the diet. I was kind of on and off keto/low carb for about a year and half, with some pretty wild weight fluctuations through that time. I just started my last year of school and work part time at a group home. With being at work so much throughout the initial covid lockdown and never prepping my meals I put on about 60lbs in a couple months. As of today I'm down 37 and want to lose about 80 total and see how I feel. My self-talk has been pretty negative the few times I've cheated so I like hearing about other people's experiences and how they've coped to get some perspective that I'm not the only one who's gone through these changes. @bookmaid1 I really hope the best for you and your health, good luck with whatever else you have to focus on ❤

    Before trying the Agoge diet, I tried keto and many other diets but none worked. With the *Agoge diet*, I lost so much persistent belly fat, finally getting that fit look.

    Great info! After 5 weeks on my keto journey that I share on my keto UA-cam channel I’m fat adapted! Had a “cheat weekend” due family celebration, but I was able to keep carbs to minimum. I even ate cake!

    ive been on keto for 7ish weeks, ate macaroni and cheese, tato totes and snickers AND WAS STILL 1.1 the next day, nearly fell off my chair #happydays
    i did fast for nearly 24 hours before hand tho...

    great information thks. I have lost 30+ lbs and 4" off waist so far on keto and intermit fast, and just cheated today after strict 3 week keto diet with ketone range of 1.1to 2.8. Went out for Bfast potatoes chicken fried chicken apple butter with grits ( i did slather my plate with about 3 T butter )
    and 2hrs later couple hand full of nuts and granola 2 oz orange juice ketone dropped to .6 and Glu after 2 hours only at 118

    I have a cheat day every Saturday as I like to go out have a few beers and a takeaway. As long as you go back to it the next day I still lose weight and body fat but I suppose we are all different and this works for me 👍🏼

    After a month on keto and 4kg down (from 65.5 kg to 61.7kg), I had a fun day at work and allowed myself to eat a little bread and a meal with asado meat and rice. Felt like I had stones in my stomach after that but I enjoyed eating rice for a bit. I’m pretty much on the hang of Keto so I will definitely continue tomorrow like usual- veggies and protein I don’t think it’s too bad :) also, noticed everyone in the office was super hungry early in the morning and I was fine, I guess the sugar spikes are definitely changing. If you’re motivated you will be ok 💪🏻🕺🏻✨

    I've been on ketosis just over a week and have got into ketosis very quickly as I checked with the sticks that changes colour. The other day I ate two lindors truffles which were only 5g of carbs each and the stick still came out dark purple. But that's only because I was eating very little carbs. I won't ever do that again lol

      That shows a high reading which is common in the fisrt week or so. All it shows is that you are producing ketones but not using them as your primary fuel source. Highly unlikely that your body used up all it's glycogen stores in one week.

    Man doing so well, visited my parents in another province, ate at a restaraunt ordered kampow shrimp and to my horror it had 70carbs, that week never went over 40, usually average 12

    Interesting fact, i do a meat low glycemic vegetable diet and i do 1 hour of high intensity aerobic exercise 5 days a week.On Friday and Saturday nights i go to new breweries and try out their IPAs which are about as high in carbs and alcohol as you can get and over around 4 hours drink around 3 pints of beer. Friday morning i get up and have my typical espresso roast coffee with heavy cream and 1 tsp of MCT oil and 8 grams of 80% dark chocolate. Then an hours later doing my aerobic workout. I eat one light meal of say a piece of sockeye salmon and nothing else then go out drinking beer. I eat nothing else that evening and go to sleep. Next morning same routine except no exercise then drink my beer that evening. I get up sunday and do my morning routine without exercise then eat my normal large meat and low glycemic vegetable main meal of the day around 1 PM and them something light like salmon for dinner around 7 pm. Get up Monday AM same routine with exercise and test my ketone level around noon and i am in low ketosis, by mid week i am in full blown ketosis then it tapers by friday and i start the cycle all over again. My point here is yes beer can slow or kill your ketosis but it depends on your food choice before hand, your exercise during the week and your calorie intake. I hear so many people doing keto diets or carnivore diets saying you dont need to count calories. That is a false statement if you want to maintain or loose weight and still want to enjoy things like beer or high glycemic problem foods on occasion. I think if you want to loose weight you need a cheat to kick the ketosis in the butt. My weight is always lowest monday morning of every week. I seem to be loosing around a pound a week consistently.

    Thanks for this. Can’t I cheat after 3 weeks of eating less than 30g , sometimes less than 25 g carbs? What if I excercise before and after hard? If not, Can it be a ‘light’ cheat? Say 150g of carbs? If not that either, how long should I wait?

    I caved today and ate a bunch of Doritos and a chocolate muffin, I’m also going out to dinner tonight with some friends from out of state who are visiting and we will more than likely share a carb rich dinner together. I also feel like “cheating” today has made me feel kinda crappy, but that’s good because hopefully that will motivate me to get right back on the KD tomorrow and stay on it for a while.

    What should your first day of keto look like. If I'm just getting started what should I do first? Or is there anything specific outside of low carbs. My sister started 2 days ago, with a trainer that's helping her reach her goals. He had her do the bullet coffee for 2 days breakfast and lunch, then a leafy and protein packed dinner.

      I started keto a little over two weeks ago.. it has been a learning process so far. i pretty much just focused on eating as little carb as possible the first week so i could switch into ketosis faster. once i did, i started losing about 1lb/day.. until i had a cheat meal of course and i've been struggling to get back into ketosis (I gained about 4lbs already, mostly water weight i'm sure) but I definitely learned my lesson!

    I've started keto diet from 1st October. I don't crave for carbs. But on 15th my sister is getting married. Since I'm from India there will be rice/biriyani etc. Can I eat rice on my sister's wedding? Can I cheat after 2 weeks of keto?

    Today i enjoyed shrimp scewers and a small side of rice with 2 red lobster biscuits. My 1st time being naughty since starting keto. I don't regret it. A little treat or carby item here and there i think is what keeps many sane. I'm someone who once ate junk food 7 days a week 24/7. Although i splurged for lunch i definitely won't eat again today as I'm nice and full. My stomach is in heaven

    17 weeks and 79 pounds down I cheated on keto today for the first time to see if it will help kick start me out of plateau when I get back into ketosis. Ate a bunch of sushi and potatoes and I feel like shit! Gained 4 pounds almost instantly :( it was crazy. Starting my first 48 hour fast today to get back into ketosis quickly.

    I had a 5 day water fast 3 weeks ago, carnivore ever since. I just had a bacon donut and 3 small ice cream bars.. I was getting agitated easily and then crave something sweet. Just going to pick up where i left off. Which is 30 lbs lighter then what I was a month ago.

    Great that was what the question and response I was looking for, problem is I have to meet an old friend for drinks how bad will let's say 4-8 whisky sodas effect my induction phase, not drinking really isn't an option, alternative beverages that would be better? P.s. im not doing it for weight loss I'm doing it for antiinflammatory benefits of Carnivor diet, Thanks

      im not the doc, but alcohol like whiskey has almost no carbs, so the drink wont kick you out of ketosis but it will stall your keto fat burning process. liver will be more focused on dealing with the ingested alcohol... and well soda only diet coke wont kick you out of ketosis. it has sugar thats bad for your body but not for keto.. hope this helps

    ive been doing keto now for almost 2 months but i really want a cheat day someday soon...ive lost 13lbs so far. EDIT: 2 months later, I've lost around 37.4 lbs, really want another cheat day even tho i usually have one at the end of the month, today its the 18th. i want pizza or kebab :O i guess ill just eat it now and cut out the day at the end of the month.

    I have a binge every saturday or sunday helps me stay in the diet when i know i can look forward to one day having what i want i have a bit of chocolate some crisps and a nice carb meal like a sunday dinner with potatoes roasties stuffing and gravy with the meat lol and a few beers then the next day im back to keto and it gives me the energy to run it off 😊

    I'm on keto one month, and I just had little bit of snacks(something like chips), and 3 cookies... I feel so sad. I dont know why I did it. I just felt so disappointed that in one month I lost only 2 kilos. While other people lose much more.. I know we are not all the same, but it's just how i feel now. I dont know should i have a normal keto dinner now or its better to not eat till tomorrow. .just water fast.??

    had a piece of cake today. had wafers a few days ago and a piece of dark chocolate. feel so bad. my whole body feels like it's burning. need to run tomorrow to get rid of that sugar. no more cake, ever. I guess I'm depressed that's y I cheated.

    I live in Australia and am horrified at USA sugar figures. Here the usual blood sugar number is between 4-6 not up in the 100s. Am wondering why they are so different? Also a box of 100 sugar measuring strips are only $3 Australian Dollars. I feel really sad for the type 1 diabetics that are born with it.

    They’re ok if your okay w/feeling like crap a day or two later & having to work off all the crap thru fasting/workout. I would say save those cheat meals or days on special occasions(birthdays, parties, special events)...more enjoyable & worth it. But for someone that’s already overweight I wouldn’t recommend them since it’ll take you off track.

      Lizzy Grant replace the noodles with miracle noodles the thicker ones and it taste pretty good.. of you want an exact pasta experience for other foods you gotta try carbanada pasta... and i drink alot of beer A lottt michelo ultra, and its pretty good.. lost 40 pounds so far and feel healthy and strong.

    Some food is unhealthy not because of sugar but because of poisonous Waters. Like I always feel I am worse when I eat fatty fish than when I drink nearly sugarfree Coke. I guess the sweetener is unhealthy too. Besides I ate homegrown spinach to it and the fried egg is not freerange, if it was the wolf, hawk, fox and Eagles would eat the hen ( we tried )that almost started to bloom and two days ago I fertilized it with some synthetic white stuff. It taste like some wild plants but does not grow too well. The homemade sugarfree rhubarbwater can evidently give kidneystones but protect from the cancerogen fish. Yes I ate fried food. In butter. Avokado that demand logistiks and red onion that contain carbs. I am really satisfied about to go swim and I cheated with a small tomato. Perhaps the best I did was adding chilipowder and the taste was excellent.

      I LOVE the keto ice creams such as Rebel. They make great flavors, taste amazing. I have to have my desserts! Also Lilly’s brand makes excellent sugar free chocolate chips, I find them at Walmart. I love the Carmel flavored ones.

      @@twd949 good point! New would be abt a few weeks or months. Wait longer than a month atleast. Keto is something you want to be doing for atleast a couple months before you consider cheating. It makes it less hard that way and the reward is higher.

      You can eat all the fat you need to while ketosing to help keep you satisfied. Eating fat while ketosing , especially rich animal fats, causes the body to ketose more heavily. Atkins explained it in his books. 😉 Try the keto lasagna recipes on utube, they're so good.

    I just want to have wine and candy on my anniversary holiday away. I only only like sweet wine so I haven't been drinking at all since being in keto and I don't use sugar substitute because it doesn't taste good and they all disturb my gut so I have stayed away from all things sweet. I do keto because my glucose levels were acting stupid while on London no starch diet/Paleo. It will have been about 8 weeks before we go away of keto without. I stay in high moderate to therapeutic levels of ketosis and low sugar. I do not plan on having heavy carbs like pasta, rice or things made with grains. I am hoping it won't be dangerous for me to go from such high ketosis to eating dried fruit, candy and high sugar alcohols.

    Question: Dr, I was on keto for 6 days Unfortunately mama made my rice & beans dish for dinner on Sunday. I was really hungry and I couldn't say no to our traditional food. After that meal, went back on keto for 2 days and counting. Did I break ketosis? How long it takes to go back on ketosis?

      I'm a little late on this but for me intermittent fasting made it really easy. 2 meals a day no snacks other than a little snacking while I cook those 2 meals or right after. I'm only 2 weeks in, down from 230 to 218. First 7 or so was water weight but since then it's been a pound every couple days.

      Adam Salaah! From what I’ve heard, it’s hard and like the opposite of trying to go into keto. So a few days of eating crap, as opposed to a single meal. Then your back burning sugar/carbs, which is crap imo. I’m staying keto for life....with the odd cheat treat;)

    This is not true for everyone. I have been on keto for 3 months and test strips shows I'm very high in ketosis. I slipped and had a very small piece of pecan pie and 24 hrs later I tested negative for ketones in my body. It took me 2-3 days to get my ketone levels back

    Finally, someone who isn't like "who said you could cheat?" we're going to shame you for several weeks if you cheat because you're not supposed to cheat. It's "illegal" lol. The keto community can be pretty brutal with people who want a slice of cake or a baked potato once or twice a year.
