    I've never had that much trouble starting any of my duramaxs I've owned. Dont plug them in, and it gets in the teens/ lower in the winter. Cycle the glow plugs 3 times a little cough... then starts right up.

    This is why block heaters were invented. Just put a new one in my truck and it started up like it wasn’t even cold out even though was -35 and it’s a diesel lb7 as well. Start using it. You will thank me later. Or get a new one if it doesn’t work. Best thing I ever did was buy a new one for my truck.

    Hold for 10-16 seconds let the glow plugs warm up then give it hell 😂

    I got a LB7 01with 340,000 miles on it and it was -14 out cycle the Key once and started every time and I don’t ever plug it in. I would hate to deal with that cold start issue.

    i dont know why every one cant get their cummings powerstroke duramax started at cold weather could it be cause i replace my batteries every year around october november keep them batts updated

    What oil you runnin? Is that celcius or Fahrenheit? Was that plugged in?

    I've never had my 03 lb7 start that hard before. It was -20 f with the windchill -40 not plugged in. It was out side in the cold with one battery. The motor turned over slow but started right up like 12 seconds into the first crank. I'm thinking you have some bad glow plugs. I just put new ones in mine not to long ago. My truck has 270xxx miles

      Tyler Gist I do agree with ya mine has new glow plugs last summer n mine fires up at -20 f no problems with 247,465 running STRONG!!! Love the D-MAX.

      Windchill is irrelevant on cold starts. It just means it will remove hear faster, not bring something colder than ambient.

      strange isint it? my 2001 i got with 150k and only now has 180k miles has never taken more than 1 cycle and fires right up, up here in utah. never replaced the glow plugs in the 9 years ive owned it. still have a free set of glow plugs that came with the new'ish injectors, still waiting to install them (8years later)

      My Cummins will start in -20 degree Fahrenheit first crank period. No need to even cycle the grid heater more than once.

    Is this the vht spray tint on your tail lights ? Tried to black mine out and they cracked. So pissed just ruined my tail lights :(

    Thats crazy. At -13 or even at - 20 mine will start up right away no problem. I have a video of mine starting at -26 i had it plugged in

    Were any glow plugs bad? Mine has issues like this sometimes even if it’s just sitting for one night. Gotta be glow plugs?

      I replaced all of them when I bought it but it could very well of went bad

      Nah it’s cold. Mine does the same. Plugged in it fires up first try and the engine is even warm already …. I never leave it unplugged below 0°C

      @@dannyweibs im sure its like most LB7s including mine. Hes probly got some kind if tuner in it, and aftermarket cold air intake, maybe an aftermarket drop in turbo but unlikely and an oversized exhaust tip. Most LB7s you see running down the road that what they have done to em. Nothing wild. Its a classic you gotta keep it classic.

    I love love love the sound of lb7’s. So much so that im going to buy one to install a dump bed insert in and take my lawn cre business to the next level! And plow too someday. But i have a tundra and need a 6ft bed.

    My coworkers boyfriend is trying to sale his LB7 to me... I gotta ask because I don't know much about Dmaxs, hell my 97 12v is the only Diesel I've owned, and that's the only diesel motor I've worked on... is the Lb7 worth the build? Or should I pass... He says all it needs is the delete and water pump...

      @@dannyweibs how about towing? I have a Tacoma as well that honestly I break constantly 😂 and I use my Dodge to bring her back home on my dovetail... That LB7 wouldn't have problems right, I forgot what Dmax it was that has a over heating problem.

    I went to school in Wyoming when it was fucking 60 below. Every goddamned DirtyMax out there fired up first try.
    Yes, they all had loooong cranking times but fucking still

    You ever figure out if there was an issue? Working in Wyoming and mine started doing this. I’ve been throwing parts at it and haven’t figured it out yet. Never had an issue in Oklahoma.

      @@dannyweibs yeah I have no codes. I am changing the fuel filter head tomorrow, could be getting air in through there. All started when I got to Wyoming and it got cold. I was thinking Altitude and temp, not good on orings.

      Get one with the updated injectors already replaced. Most have. Save for head studs and gaskets , water pump and thermostats, then drive forever

      If you keep the stock exhaust it provides the right back presure which helps it start, the lb7 has high compression and works great and reliable when stock, the injectors need to be replaced along with the cp3 high pressure feul pump, two common issues.

      @@JasonY02 the cp3 pump is in the valley of the engine to create pressure up to 2,600psi to atomize the feul properly. The pump seals usally go resulting with diesel filling the crank case plus the feul pressure regulator goes bad.

    I’m shocked it was that bad. That’s powerjoke bad. I’m guessing glow plugs dead or dying? I would expect a Duramax to start like my Cummins’, fire right up.

      An old 7.3 or 6.0 would fire up better cold than a 5.9 Cummins when it’s cold. Both powerstrokes after the 6.0 fire up no problem when cold.

    Stop turning the key back off when it’s that close to starting. If you hold it for just a few more seconds she would have started. My lb7 does the same thing

      I could see it. Mine has 2 but it doesn't get plugged in. -10 was never an issue for me, always fires right up. 240k miles on it as well

    I can never understand why people hurt their diesels by not caring to use a block heater. This is so unhealthy for your truck. Using diesel 911 also helps big time. What Al the farmers here in Canada use. Stops your fuel from jelling.

    Wisconsin here, it’s been averaging -7*F lately, my lb7 with 210k miles, unplugged starts in under 3 seconds.
    Y’all are doing something wrong
