tbh i don't like how they look down on darker skinned people. Kai doesn't look all that flattered by being called the dark-skinned one even if Xiumin sugarcoats it as being 'sexy'. I know its different in their culture, even in my own, to be fairer is considered 'better' but that's just messed up man.
Like, I'm considered fair in my culture (Indian) if i get a tan, my mums like try to avoid getting one - i came back from america sun-burned lol - and she was like don't worry it'll go away eventually. The burnt part sucked but i was like i don't even care about the tanned part -_- but its that kind of thinking that gets on my nerves and actually disheartens me from going to places like South Korea, China and Japan =/ i feel like you'd get judged by your skin colour and your weight (cuz you know how they're obsessed with being skinny as F)...sorry just wanted to rant a little guys
I fking know right. Just because I'm Asian doesn't mean I have to be fair. I do sports and of course I get tan. But I get tanned more easily than the other friends of mine. They could still remain fair and white doing sports while even if I used sunblock and screen lightening cream, they won't help. It really hurts to get insulted and made fun of your skin colour yet you can't do anything about it.
eh true... i mean like, Korea is very strict on their beauty standards, you have to be pretty pale, skinny, big eyes, small nose, small face, nice eyes, a jaw lines. So basically, it's not really Exo's fault that they were raised this way, or that Kai was born this way. This was a super long time ago, meaning that Kai seems fine with his skin now. When someone makes fun of he's skin he's all like "So what if I'm dark...", so I guess Kai is used to it, and in fact, people have been stopping with calling Kai dark lately. I've also heard that Kai gets bullied when he was younger for this skin tone. Ahhh~ Korea is a strict place but it's mostly because of the people before everyone. (Trust me, Exo is way different. I know for a fact (maybe) that all of them are not homophobic, and they treat everyone properly) Kai is very unique though, people made fun of this girls weight and Kai's like "Noooo ;-;", more moments like that before too. I value Kim Jongin a lot >.
To Infinity and Beyond Yeah, I'm aware of the strict degree to which beauty standard are considered in Korea, what with the highly popular phenomenon of plastic surgery and with the rest of the world, how media constantly pressures the young generation of today to be what the 'vast majority' consider beautiful as you've said - eyes, jaws, skinny, heights etc.
Its just such a shame that we like in an idealistic, materialistic and basically fake world where the individual is scrutinised to such a length. I haven't yet seen any interviews with Kai being less concerned about his skin color but i'm pretty sure with his popularity, that it wouldn't seem like such an issue to him now. Nevertheless, the wider issue is still unaddressed and i really wish this kind of thinking could diminish altogether in the future.
