I found 2..8 pointers that locked up and drowned in a creek in Jackson County, Ohio. I cldnt afford to mount them locked up, but still have the racks and pics of how I found them in the creek. I was part of a Federal Funded creek clearing clean up and the last day of it was when I notice them while looking over a bridge off of St. Route 35. Legend has it that in the mid 50s to 60s a man had high fence deer and they got out. Bred with the wild ones and now ohio has some of the biggest non typical deer in the wild.
Hunted Southern Ohio for the first time 21 season. Heading back in November and I can't wait. I have completely become obsessed with the big hill country. I'm from Georgia and have hunted public land throughout Georgia for 20 plus years. The feeling is nothing compared to Ohio. I sit at home and feel like a 170" buck could walk out at any minute. I sit in ohio and feel a 200" plus could walk out at any minute. Georgia has a 2 buck, 10 doe tag system, and a very long rifle season. I really like how Ohio is one buck state
Muskingum county is noted for it's big bucks, but really anywhere in the hills one could escape hunting pressure for a long time. The old bucks have safe zones and they escape to them at the first sign of pressure. If you can locate their hiding spots then you stand a better chance at getting a shot off. Any "trophy" buck I ever hunted is Wiley and very cautious even in the rut. One way to beat them is hunt in a downpour during the rut. They generally put their nose to the ground and are less aware of other smells. The rain also masks outlying sounds. Just saying, but not a lot of people are willing to get sopping wet for a deer.
I have lived in Ohio my whole life of 50 years and for the first time did not go hunting this year. It's gotten to if you don't own your own hunting land or able to lease land you can forget about deer hunting. The out of staters have ruined it for us residents.
My uncle has a buck in Ohio that he shot out of his farm field in 1981 in Knox County. He never had it officially scored, but his buddy had it scored at 198 typical. It is a 7x7 good mass with some long beams. Over 30”.
What a collection! Not sure if the Ohio mystery buck is in there but it is for sure one of my top 10 deer of all time. This is such an amazing collection it is hard to even believe my eyeballs. All coming from Ohio makes me want to take a trip there to hunt some day.
Whenever I see a video like this I have to watch and see if the “Hole in the Horn” buck gets mentioned. My grandfather drilled the hole in the horn when he was managing the bar at the Kent Canadian Club.
Deer have antlers, not horns. How does one drill a hole in a horn on a deer, when deer don't have horns? If representing facts, tell the truth. Don't repeat lies as truth. A cow, or sheep or goat has horns ..not deer. Wow, want some ocean front property in Arizona, cheap. Get into the rush before it's all gone
I shot a deer with a really tight, small 8 pt basket. When I got up to it, it appeared bigger, heavier and taller than the average south Texas deer. I rolled it over after seeing under its tail (I walked up from rear and shot in heavy brush thinking it was a doe. ) To my shock not only did she have antlers, she had festivals as well as the vulva I saw when her tail was up and I shot her..as a doe. So I had to pack her in on horse and get with Parks)wildlife to see what tag to use. Since Tx tags say "antlered" or antler less, I had to buck tag her. And they said she was considerably bigger than average deer of either gender by some 50+ lbs or more. Interesting enough was she had all the internal female organs to have a fawn and her udder looked as though she'd fawned several times. The teeth put he at 9 years old. She outlived all the predators and hogs in a very desert like poor environment and was tick free and healthy. Kinda cool but sad I ended her interesting life .I saw another hermaphrodite but it was more male than female
As many of beautiful big monster bucks there, I have to agree with you on the Drake's 11 point, what an amazing story and the smile with him and his deer! Is there any bucks on the wall from Knox and Richland county?
My great grandfather held the record for biggest whitetail in New York State from like 1970s untill early 2000s. Massive 18 pointer I forget all the measurements. Me and my grandfather actually found a dead head last year that is so perfect it’s only a 9 but it’s so perfect and super wide and massive gerth on the antlers.

I have a set of sheds that was scored by an official scorer from what was formerly Rack Magazine that netted a score of 224 inches. The set do not make any kind of record book because they are sheds but I was genuinely curious as to what they would score. The set has 25 .5 inch main beams almost 8 inch bases, triple brow tines both sides and a total of 21 points. The deer broke off two brow guards and a drop tine. We had 15 guys doing a deer drive on this high swamp. I shot at this monster buck 4 times, drew blood. After first shot he lowered his head and proceeded to plow his way out of danger.
