    Soon, I will do a full rundown of the costs, benefits, and drawbacks of wiring your own panel-a full transparency postmortem on what I learned and what I paid to do it my way.

      A list of your suppliers would be good too. Obviously stein and b&c but where else did you find useful? Those dry transfers are amazing. Better then most production jets.

      Really excited to see that part. As a mechanic, I always feel like I have to do everything myself because I’m capable and it’s usually a significant savings. Occasionally time saved outweighs cost. Curious to see if the cost justifies the extra effort vs a prefab drop in from Stein. Great video as usual.

    There is literally nothing more gratifying than seeing something come together for the first time and exceeding your expectations! I know exactly how that felt and I’m stoked for you! It looks amazing.
    Also happy that I’m not the only one building things on a harbor freight moving blanket… well, mine is from harbor freight anyway.

    You’re a building machine, Ryan! I’m always amazed at how much progress you make with each video. I’m currently finishing up my fuel tanks and anxious about the upcoming test! Can’t wait to hear your complete rundown on cost/complexity/etc of doing the wiring yourself. It’ll definitely guide my decision when the time comes!

      I probably spend too much time in the garage. A few have suggested that… 🧐
      Keep updated on the tanks. That was an interesting and anxiety inducing section of the build for sure.

      Awesome, thank you! I'm currently working on a much requested video detailing the "back end" of how this panel came together. The nuts and bolts of it all--figuratively. As we've all seen the literal nuts and bolts by now. Anyway. I'll have the files available for download when that episode is released. My hope is next weekend!

      @@RyanFlysPDX, Love to hear about your decision about labeling. Looks like some sort of dry transfer process used. Happy with it? Did you clear coat afterwards? Looks beautiful.

    • @RyanFlysPDX
      @RyanFlysPDX  3 дні тому +1

      @ I love the dry transfers. A little more expensive than I expected, but wonderful quality and really allowed me full control of design and installation.

    Ryan, great videos and super mice panel. I just picked up my Advanced Flight Systems panel for my RV7 Tip-up. The panel markings are engraved but I may need to add some markings. Where did you order your panel decals?

    • @RyanFlysPDX
      @RyanFlysPDX  3 дні тому +1

      Dry transfers are from Color Vu. They do a great job.

  • @cjracer
    @cjracer 3 дні тому

    The panel looks great! The "Built By" is a nice touch as well. A little embarrassing, but it took me a half moment to remember your last name isn't "Flys" lol. I didn't think of using decals for labeling the panel. I think it would be more cost effective than engraving. Plus, easier to update/refresh in the future.

    • @RyanFlysPDX
      @RyanFlysPDX  3 дні тому

      The "Built By" was a bit of risk, but in the end I liked it. The dry transfers are great--awesome detail, allows for great customization. They are cleared in behind a coat (or three) of satin lacquer for protection, but you may be able to sand down, adjust, and recoat. Certainly easier than you could engraved or etched details.
      Thanks for the kind words!

      Will the dry decals long long or they will need to be reapplied after a few years of use?

  • @flyyourdream9716
    @flyyourdream9716 3 дні тому +1

    Looks great Ryan. Where did you get the dry transfer printed? Did you design it yourself or did the company have a preset lettering that worked?

    • @RyanFlysPDX
      @RyanFlysPDX  3 дні тому

      Thanks!
      Transfers came from Color Vu. Great to work with. I did the design. This allowed me to utilize items from the cut file for alignment. You’ll see where I had holes from the cut file printed on the decals, allowing for perfect alignment without ever touching a ruler.

    • @flyyourdream9716

      @@RyanFlysPDX oh and which software did you use or would recommend I use to draw the lettering design?

    • @RyanFlysPDX
      @RyanFlysPDX  3 дні тому +1

      @ I use illustrator. Anything to create vector graphics should work, outputting an .eps or .pdf (again vector). Something like photoshop isn’t ideal for this.

  • @bertschb

    Hey Ryan - what software are you using to document your wiring?

    • @RyanFlysPDX
      @RyanFlysPDX  3 дні тому +1

      It’s in PDF, drawn in Illustrator because that’s easy and convenient for me, and a chart in excel.
      These documents will be made public, for reference only, at the same time the “behind the scenes” look at wiring your own panel is presented.
