I watched your two videos about this repair, I also have a DW8000 and I love this instrument, your step by step was very interesting and instructive, I also do my repairs and I say that I am not a 'mega technician', I am like you, I do my trials and errors and try to find someone to blame for some defect. Congratulations on the video
When it comes to the slider, would using (I forget what it's called) the carbon paint be an option? I've used it before repairing drum machine pad contacts.
I have a DW-8000 with the opposite problem. My main output jack doesn't work, but my headphone output is fine. Do you think the op amp that you replace also has something to do with the main out as well, or is there perhaps another separate op amp the main out?
Good question. When I was looking over the circuit board that deals with the front panel volume control, the op-amp that I replaced was the only one that I saw on that board. I am not sure if that opamp controls both the headphone, and the main outputs, in which case replacing it would address both. When you say that your main out doesn't work, what does that mean exactly?
@@kayslabs I get no audio at all out of the main outputs. No crackling or intermittent signal, just silence. But i can get audio from the headphone output.
@@dessiplaer Then I don't think the opamp is at fault. Could be a broken trace, or some wire that is not making the connection between the VCA and the output. Have you checked the plugs PCB, to make sure that you don't have some broken solder somewhere in there?
Hard to say...could be something really simple like the arpeggiator switch is dirty, to something more complicated to diagnose. Question is - how important is a working arpeggiator to you?
@@kayslabs yes not as much but i saw your 2 demos about the DW8000 and the DW6000 and i prefer the sound of the DW6000. Does the 2 ones sound différent or is cause of the démo and the presets you choosed ? In fact i saw 2 announcements for a DW6000 and an DW8000 at the same price. The DW8000 looks clean but with the arpegiator no longer work and a DW6000 looks dirty but fonctionnal.
@@labelle4185 I am thinking about doing some comparisons videos at some point and that was going to be one of the videos (DW6000 vs DW8000). It's hard to put it into words, but what I would say is that the DW6000 sounds grittier and more "rude" whereas the DW8000 is a bit more refined and gentler. In very simplistic terms, I would say that the DW6000 can excel at synth bass lines and leads that need to cut through a mix. The DW8000 can excel at pads and more complex synth instruments.
@@kayslabs ok so you answer my question. I wanted to know if the DW8000 was exactly the same with just more options. But finally not. Im hearing too (on your démos) that the sound of the DW6000 is really near to an analog synth, warm and dirty. And i didn't heard this on your demo with the DW8000. I heard a synth more proper and sounds more like a new school synth cold an without the soul i heard with the DW6000 (and less fat). So now i know it was not just on my imagination.

Nice work ! Pretty much what I do when rebuilding.

I really enjoy your videos. If you don’t mind sharing what was the solder remover gun model?
Thank you. I got me a Hakko FR-301. It's a bit more pricey than the other brands, but everyone swears by it and it's quite good.

@@kayslabs Thanks for the info. I'll have to do some digging.
i can get a DW8000 for a low price but the arpegiator doesn't work anymore. Do you think it's a big deal to repair it ?
