We have these trees here in the Canary Islands too, some of them are huge. There was one a century ago that was huge and even had a cave inside.

At 1:35, you showed a picture of the Millennium Dragon Tree on Tenerife Island in the Canary Islands, a Dracaena Draco species, the oldest documented Dragon Tree on the Canaries.
I actually got it tattooed on me when I visited the Canaries in October. As someone who works on violins, whose varnishes were believed to be partly dragonsblood (tl;dr: it’s not), I loved the idea of the unique tattoo. 😊
You are right. I see these trees occasionally here in Southern California. I have yet to see the Socotra Dragon tree.
I have one of these. I've kept it inside for over a year, and it's doubled in size. It's still super small, but it's really started to have major leaf growth in the past few weeks.
First time I remember seeing these trees was probably in a Nintendo game. The Zelda and Donkey Kong devs seem to really like Socotra and it's awesome plants lol.
Im currently playing in my better minecraft world with environments that have the same looking trees, no wonder its called dragon tree, though its purple and doesnt bleed

Great video! I am not an expert, but in the Canary Islands (atlantic north of Africa), I think we have a subspecies (Draco Palma Canariensis) of this tree in many places on the most mountainous island (Tenerife). We even have one that is nearly 1000 years old and measures almost 20 metres in height and perimeter (in fact, it appears in this video in minute 1:35). It is a great icon of our culture, it is said that the Romans travelled to this island to get the sap of this tree for its healing properties and the strength it gave them in battle! 🐉💪
Internet research (No expertise here) suggests that they are two distinct species but belonging to the same Genus.

According to Wikipedia, _Dracaena draco_ only has two or three subspecies (and none of them is named subsp. _canariensis_ ): _D. draco draco_ (the one native to the Canary Islands and possibly Madeira), _D. draco ajgal_ (native to the Anti-Atlas Mountains in Morocco), and _D. draco caboverdeana_ (native to Cabo Verde).

I am American, 71 yo, and have ONLY heard it pronounced this way. Never heard it pronounced with a "k" sound.
Both pronunciations are valid according to Merriam-Webster

but in facts, socotra dragon trees are harvested for their sap only once a year (if it's rare, it's more expensive). The real problem is overgrazing, notably because of goats freely roaming without supervision.

The sap of this tree has the highest ORAC score ever recorded. Supplements, ones that have a high ORAC score, scavenge free radical damage in your body. The reactive oxygen species you accumulate in your body are the cause of your deterioration and eventual loss of homeostasis (death). Dragon's blood sap has the highest known ORAC value of 2,897,110 giving it 6,000 times the antioxidant power of vitamin C, 800 times that of CoQ10, and 550 times that of vitamin E. Just as a comparison, Blueberries have an ORAC of 4,669 and turmeric 127,068. The second highest is Astaxanthin with an ORAC value of 2,822,200. Then again, if you take too many supplements, all of it has to be processed by the liver, so this is the only main danger that is possible, but even then, the benefits of taking the supplements usually outweigh any type of liver damage and you would have to take extreme doses of supplements outside of the regular dosage for it to start doing anything harmful to your liver.

They have the same growth habit and shape of some acacia trees in Africa. The almost flat top canopy is so iconic of African savannahs. It seems they are convergent in having the same shape.

Just a couple general things for other viewers:
'Cure alls' don't exist -it's a characteristic of many pre/non scientific treatments/beliefs.
Successful antibiotic or anti-cancer reports can often be intentionally misleading; for example -bacteria/cells in a petri dish requires very specific and balanced conditions to survive and thrive, if you flood it with pretty much any substance; it will often kill/harm them.
I remember ever received about hundreds of its seed, but no one ever grow or luck, now from this video, i know that's a very rare specimen

they are actually a fast growing tree, not slow. Idk where you got info that they grow slow from, but we grow them all over southern and central California and they grow super fast. Not palm tree fast, but fast.

I wish Las Vegas would try to plant arid trees like this one instead of the water-thieving palm trees everywhere. It looks so beautiful and would handle our arid climate much better.
If their sap is so valuable, we should try cultivating these trees in other places. It may not be what environmentalists want to hear, but commercial viability is one of the surest ways to protect the species, and it could help take the strain off the local ecosystem.
There are also Dragon trees in the Azores, although they are not part of the original flora.

As an Australian I've never heard that word before.
My FAVORITE perfume! Mom doesn't like it, she says its too intense. I have a dracaena marginata that was my mom's. She gave it to me when something started rotting it's trunk in the middle of a stalk. I turned the top half into a cutting, and now years later its nearly the same height it was when it had its near death experience! Mom has another species in the dracaena genus called a corn plant. And it has a very very sticky flower that smells a little like a hyacinth!
Something isn’t adding up. I grew up seeing trees that “bled” back in the Dominican Republic. I wonder if there are other species that have the same red sap but aren’t necessarily the dragon tree or if the dragon tree got brought to the caribbean at some point. Can’t find much on it on the web.
