You missed the step buddy before you apply your basecoat. You should always wet sand, then clean it with a tack cloth with wax and grease remover before you spray it with pretzel tack cloth reduce your chance of heavy orange peel and also fish.eye 👍🏽😊
Funny enough I did actually just sand the car, tack cloth and then was and grease remover. I would have thought sanding with the guide coat would be fine. You can see this around @42:45 What's pretzel tack cloth mate? Maybe I should have looked into that 🤔
By the look of your basecoat you needed much more thinner in it for sure. Basecoat will have no peel in it at all. A 1.4 will be fine, so that much peel its more thinner and maybe a bit more air pressure ( but bits where you could hear spraying it sounded like enough air) Whoever told you to leave base for ages to dry out before clearing it is way off... I have seen clear delaminate off basecoat many times cos the basecoat has been left too long before clearing it. Half of your clear finish having so much peel is from your basecoat having lots beforehand. Best practice is test a small something before doing lots of things to get a feel and setup that is working beforehand.
Thank you for the feedback. I do think if I was to do it again I wouldn't rush anywhere near as much and get a test panel to perfect my painting with. Another theory I had was. Could it be so orange peel textured because the gun was a little too far from the panel?
No offense but please be realistic here - that finish is pretty bad even for an amateur job. Looking at the big picture, it's crazy that OP spent so many hours doing such a great job with the prep just to stick the basecoat so badly, then to also go ahead and clear over the top of it - would it have made more sense at that point to stop, reevaluate and fix it first? Honestly, I think OP's biggest mistake here was not in the job itself but self-imposing a tight deadline on a huge job he's never done before, and the results show it.
Thanks for the honest feedback. I completely understand and think you are right. I think my newest video will show why the deadline was so important and why I didn't want to miss anything... I had to do everything I could to join in on that drive. Lessons learnt for sure but it was 100% worth it vs not doing it or taking my time
I’m so impressed with the amount of effort you put in!! You can definitely see the reflection of that on the result of the car!😍 great job!! Keep it up 👏🏽
100% agree mate. And I think it's the biggest clearning curve I could go through but one I really appreciate doing. When you watch my newest video you will see that it was worth rushing to try making such an event.
Thanks mate, I literally did and it 100% aint as easy as it seems. You feel like an expert when you watch a UA-cam video but in real life there are so many things that change you just can't prepare for. I am lucky that the paint was so bad before this is a big upgrade, but I know I have a lot to learn before I can do something like this again lol
I hate to be that guy… I know this is your first time painting a car but this isn’t just any random Honda civic this is a gtr man you should have practiced on some scrap car panels till you got it right.. I can appreciate your hard work in prepping but I’m sorry to say this looks horrible… I enjoy watching your content but you definitely should have practiced a lot before painting Godzilla I hope it comes out looking better later on mate. No hate I know you’re not professional but you should have asked someone to help you or at least practiced more on other pieces of car parts.
It's all good mate no stress, I didn't really have the time to mess around with anything extra (I'm always busy working at something) But I get you. I think it will look a lot better once wet sanded. And I'm someone who wants to try it myself always. I do agree if I had time, practise would have been 100% the right thing to do. If I could go back in time I would have done practise pieces regularly to make sure I got it on lock. I hope to do a full restoration of the car which is why I'm not stressed too much. You saw the clip of my brothers gtr which took 5 years to restore and I don't want to not drive this car for that long... need to finish my e30 before I feel comfortable doing something like that 🤣
I think what you’ve said is quite valid, I just think the way you have said it could have been better/more respectable… instead of saying “this looks horrible”🙄 I do think he said it is a quick job, to make it look better than the state it was in before being all one colour. Hopefully he can get it professionally done or get more practice in and do it seamlessly himself 🙏🏽
@@tamannanoor9830 that’s what I was saying but I was only being honest I don’t sugar coat things to spare his feelings. If he can’t take criticism then he should not post videos on UA-cam for the world to see right or wrong? Sometimes criticism may help him want to improve his skills, he’s a fine lad and has potential he just needs lots of practice. I don’t think practicing on a gtr was the best choice but it is what it is
You did great on a few steps, masking and primer was spot on!! The base coat had a lot of texture and when it occurs you will never get a good finish, layer by layer every has to be silky smooth, maybe the paint was too thick or the wrong hardener or even lack of pressure on the gun. I've been there but i do admire your effort. You will improve!

This video shows you don’t need a fancy paint booth to get pro results. Super inspiring for us DIYers!

Thank you mate. It's not all about getting the perfect finish but sometimes about the journey!

Great video mate, top effort 👌🏻
Thank you mate. I hope to never have to do it again but it was 100% worth the experience and saying I did it 🙏🏽

Also the ASMR of the paint spray!!😍😱 obsessed! Loved seeing the car in every step
I had to get in that ASMR for you haha.
But thank you so much 😊😊
Glad the hard work is showing through now! 🙏🏽
It’s amazing great job well done
Thank you 😊🙏🏽
Allot of mistakes but we'll done next time wet sand primer before basecoat also wet the floor you'll get less dust in your paint

Good job having a crack at it, dove straight in didnt you haha. Painting aint easy as it may seem, lots of lessons learnt.
